Gyimah Makes Peace With Coach

Ghana International midfielder, Edwin Gyimah, has made peace with Orlando Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral after they butted heads last week.

The duo were involved in a heated argument at Cape Town International Airport following Bucs’ 2-1 win at Ajax Cape Town on September 13.

It is thought the confrontation may have stemmed from Ertugral hauling Gyimah off the field at half-time at Cape Town Stadium.

However, the pair  have since buried the hatchet, according to an official at the club.

“Even though the club still has to institute disciplinary action for bringing the name of the club in to disrepute, both the player and the coach have smoked a peace pipe,” says the official.

“Gyimah came back to training and apologised to the coach in front of all the players. The coach accepted his apology. The club is fully focused in their next game against Cape Town City tomorrow.”

Ghanaian international defender Edwin Gyimah exhibited some magnificent display in defence as his side Orlando Pirates booked their place in the Nedbank Cup final with a thrilling 4-2 win over hosts Free State Stars at Goble Park in Bethlehem on a wet Saturday afternoon.

Pirates are now in poll position of clinching their ninth National Cup title.

Pirates had a blossom start to the match as established a 2-0 lead in a first half which was scored on the 24 minutes (own goal) and on the 38th Pirates striker  Memela himself found the back of the net to double the lead but Ayanda Nkosi of the stars pulled one goal back

The Free State side was the dominant force in the second half, forcing the Buccaneers to retreat further and further in defence as the match wore on, but the away side did put together some good attacks on the counter, most notably when Mpho Makola almost killed the game off in the 84th minute, but his rifled shot rebounded off the post.

A minute later Memela capped his fine performance with a second goal  to make it 3-1 but Gabuza of the stars pulled one back to make it 3-2.

The best goal of the game was left for last, with Mohomi firing home a stunning shot from a free kick to make it 4-2 in the second minute of injury time, though it proved to be nothing more than a consolation for the downtrodden hosts.

Gyimah Sent off But Orlando Pirates Progress

Ghanaian defender Edwin Gyimah was sent off during Orlando Pirates Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday night.

Tendai Ndoro and Mpho Makola scored for Pirates in extra-time as they booted out defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns out of the competition with Pirates winning 2-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

The Pirates defender was shown a second yellow card in the 70th minute and placed his team under intense pressure, however, coach Eric Tinkler says the first booking was harsh and added that Khama Billiat was looking to influence the second yellow card on numerous occasions.

“I think the first tackle he [Gyimah] made, he won the ball fairly. I think the referee was a little bit hasty, in my opinion, to hand him the first yellow,” said Tinkler.

“In his second tackle [the referee] immediately awarded him the second yellow, but it comes off the fact that he felt the first one was a foul, when it wasn’t because he definitely won the ball.

”I also felt (Khama) Billiat, on many occasions, was looking for it [to get Gyimah sent off] and was diving,” he concluded.

Schlupp, Amartey Nominated For Leicester City Club Award

Ghanaian international duo Jeffery Schlupp and Daniel Amartey have been nominated for the young player of the season award at Leicester City.

Amartey and Schlupp will compete for the top award together with the likes of Liam Moore, Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray. Both players have being an integral part of the Leicester City set.

Schlupp despite suffering an injury has played an influential role in the team’s title chase this season.

The 23-year-old won a crucial penalty for his side which earned them an important 2-2 draw at home to West Ham United over the weekend.

Amartey on the other has braced himself into the Leicester team since joining the Club from Danish side FC Copenhagen.

The versatile defender who has made seven appearances for the Club so far this season has excelled in various positions in the team. Schlupp however won the coveted award at the Club last season.

Leicester City are currently leading the race to becoming EPL champions having already accumulated 73 pionts followed by Totteham Hostpurs who have 68 with only four matches to go.

Gyimah Reveals The Difficulty Of Playing For Orlando Pirates

Ghanaian international defender Edwin Gyimah has admitted how tough the challenge is playing for a big club like Orlando Pirates, nonetheless, he says he is ever ready to maintain his position in the team despite the numerous competition posed by other equally good players.

The Orlando Pirates man-of-the-match winner in the 4-1 success over Golden Arrows in the ABSA Premiership, further emphasized that hard work is the only way to keep your place in Eric Tinkler’s starting lineup.

Despite the comprehensive win, Gyimah was full of praise for the opposition, while also crediting the competition for places at the club for his performances.

He said: “It was an interesting game. We knew they were going to come out and work hard. They are in a bad position in the standings, which made them hungry to fight for the ball. They did very well. If they continue to perform like this, they will move away from the bottom”.

“The coach told us to make sure to put the ball in the net, and we did that. There wasn’t any pressure for us. We were one man down, but we were able to hold them”.

“It’s not easy to play for Pirates. There are a lot of good guys, defenders like Rooi Mahamutsa and a lot of good defenders. If the coach gives you a chance you just have to prove to him you deserve it by working hard.”

Edwin Gyimah Targets Nedbank Cup

Ghanaian international midfielder Edwin Gyimah says his club Orlando Pirates have made the Nedbank Cup their priority as they attempt to salvage a very poor season, which he is committed to.

 

Orlando Pirates are placed seventh on Premiership standings, and having already missed out on the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout, Pirates can ensure some success this term if they are to go on and win the Nedbank Cup, where they will face Jomo Cosmos in the round of 16, after meeting them in the Premiership this weekend.

The head coach Eric Tinkler is already under pressure but winning the cup will allow Pirates to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“You know it’s good that it’s not only the league that can give us a place and chance to play in Africa, but winning the Nedbank Cup can also give us that chance”, he told goal.

The 25 year – old also emphasize that the Nedbank Cup game is very important because it is the only trophy can win to salvage a poor season in the clubs history.

Gyimah is expected to be named in Avram Grant squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Mozambique.

Edwin Gyimah Powers Orlando Pirates To Another Victory

Ghanaian international Edwin Gyimah exhibited a splendid display against the Bloemfontein Celtic as help he powered Orlando Pirates to a 1-0  home victory in the PSL.

Gyimah who was named man of the match showed his agility in defense as he control the affairs, preventing the opposing side rarely any sight on goal.

 

It is very good for us to win because I think we haven’t had a good run, but for us to come and win here [at home] is a massive boost for us,” he told SuperSport.

 

Orlando Pirates who struggled at the start of the season are beginning to show some consistency  in their results after winning two matches on the road,they now move up to seventh position in the PSL.

 

Next for Orlando Pirates in the PSL  is the super clash away to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, 12th march 2016(12:45 GMT).
