Jose Mourinho Knows Nothing About Manchester United

Jose Mourinho says he will return to football in July but knows nothing about his chances of joining Manchester United.

Mourinho remains long odds-on to be United’s next boss, although sources told Sky Sports News HQ last month no agreement was in place.

The former Chelsea manager, who left Stamford Bridge in December, has repeatedly denied a deal is in place to succeed Louis van Gaal.

And speaking in Mexico City, where he was coaching a FIFA Legends team against a Mexican All-stars line-up he said: “I don’t know. I know nothing about it really. I don’t have a club.”

Mourinho expects that to change soon, though, and he repeated a belief he will be back in management this summer.

“In July, I will be back,” he said. “So we are in May. May to July is nothing. I keep enjoying my life which I’m doing, keep enjoying my family. But in July I am back.”

Louis van Gaal has one year to run on his contract and could yet deliver an FA Cup and Champions League qualification this season if results go his way on the final day of the Premier League this weekend.

The Dutchman has already been involved in planning for next season, a luxury Mourinho will be denied wherever he ends up.

He said: “It’s difficult because when you get a new club in this period normally the clubs have already done their work.

“I give you an example. I’m not the Chelsea manager, but I organised the Chelsea pre-season in many aspects because I did that 10 months ago.

“Clubs have their commercial, marketing departments always involved in everything. When a new manager arrives in May, June it’s very difficult to touch in some points, but we know that.”

Paris Saint-Germain have made an approach to Jose Mourinho to become their new manager this summer, according to Sky sources.

PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi is understood to have instigated the approach to Mourinho – via his agent Jorge Mendes – immediately after PSG’s Champions League exit at the hands of Manchester City last week, having grown frustrated at the club’s lack of progress in Europe under Laurent Blanc.

Sky Sports News HQ understands Mourinho’s preference is to wait until the end of the season and monitor any developments at Manchester United, although he does consider PSG a credible choice for his return to management and is considering his options.

Mourinho is known to have a friendship with Al-Khelaifi, which pre-dates the Qatari’s ownership of PSG. Al-Khelaifi has tried to appoint the 53-year-old as manager twice before, and remains convinced the Portuguese is the man most likely to achieve the club’s ambition of winning the Champions League.

Last week, Al-Khelaifi could not hide his disappointment after PSG were knocked out of the Champions League by City, and admitted Blanc took a “tactical gamble” by playing a three-man defence in the second leg, which they lost 1-0, eventually going out 3-2 on aggregate.

The manner of the defeat was branded a “fiasco” by sports newspaper L’Equipe, and despite the fact Blanc signed a new two-year contract in February keeping keep him at the club until 2018, Al-Khelaifi now wants Mourinho to replace him this summer.

PSG’s approach to Mourinho will not go unnoticed among the Manchester United hierarchy, who will review Louis van Gaal’s position at the end of the season. United currently sit four points off the top four in the Premier League with five games remaining, but could still win the FA Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports News HQ on April 9, Mourinho denied any agreement was in place for him to join Manchester United in the summer. “I am always linked with jobs and in the summer I will have a job, but in this moment I can promise you I do not have a contract with any club,” he said.

Were United to sack Van Gaal this summer and replace him with Mourinho, it would also have an impact upon player recruitment at Old Trafford.

Last week, Sky Sports News HQ revealed Zlatan Ibrahimovic would only be willing to join Manchester United if Van Gaal left the club. The Swede is available on a free transfer this summer but in his 2011 autobiography I Am Zlatan, he alluded to a strained relationship with Van Gaal during their time together at Ajax.

Meanwhile, United are known admirers of John Stones, who Mourinho unsuccessfully tried to bring to Chelsea from Everton last summer. Everton rejected three bids from Chelsea for the defender, and refused to sell Stones. It is understood Mourinho would approve of signing both the 21-year-old and Ibrahimovic if he were to take over at Old Trafford.

Stephen Smith Loses IBF Title Bid To Jose Pedraza

Stephen Smith failed to join brother Liam as a world champion as he lost a unanimous points decision to defending champion Jose Pedraza in their IBF super-featherweight title bout.

Liverpudlian Smith, 30, grew into the fight after a shaky start but was knocked down in the ninth round.

The three judges scored the bout 117-110, 116-111, 116-111 in favour of the undefeated Puerto Rican in Connecticut.

It was the second defeat for Smith in his 25-fight career.

WBO light-middleweight champion Liam was in the United States to support his brother, who had been hoping to become the 13th current British world champion.

Egypt based Ghanaian attacker John Antwi is set to play under a new a manager after the departure of Portuguese trainer Jose Pesiro.

The 56 year old lasted just four months into his deal with the seven times African club champions before being shown the exit door.

Ahly remains one point adrift of the table topping Misr after the opening 12 rounds in the Egyptian top flight.

Antwi, 23, has endured a mixed season in the top flight despite his scary scoring rate for the North Africans.

The former Dreams FC and Sekondi Eleven Wise forward has been tipped by many home to win the top scoring gong at the end of the season.

The Ghanaian has rich experience in the North African league having already featured by Ismaily, Al Shabab before joining Al Ahly.
