Accra Hearts of Oak caretaker coach Yaw Preko expects Wednesday’s Ghana Premier League (GPL) game with Medeama SC to tough but, says his side will be ready to battle for the three points.

The Phobians will welcome the Yellow and Mauves to the Accra Sports Stadium in the penultimate game of the season and are in need of the points to sustain their challenge for the title.

With two games to end the season, Hearts who are third on the GPL log, trail the top two by three points and will need to win their remaining games to stand in with a chance of winning the title.

“We still have a little time and we are going to work very hard and then we hope for the best against Medeama SC in Accra on Wednesday” Preko said after their slim 1-0 win over Ebusua Dwarfs in their last game.

On some of the areas the team can work on, the former Ghana international said, “there is still a lot of work to be done but we hope for the best.”

Medeama SC are fifth on the table just a point behind fourth placed Asante Kotoko and harbour hopes of finishing in the top four at the end of the season.

There will therefore be out to make life very difficult for the Phobians as they seek the points that could carry them into the top four positions.

This Coach Preko says he is very much aware of and promised to prepare his charges to be ready for a very battling and uncompromising encounter.

In the first round tie played at Tarkwa, Hearts won 2-0 with goals by Cosmos Dauda and Eric Kumi and they will be out to make it a double over Medeama for the first time.

The leading Accra Hearts of Oak supporters’ Whatsapp Group, Talk Hearts of Oak S/C-1911 GH have made a presentation to the club’s acting head coach Yaw Preko.

They donated an amount of GH¢1,200 to the former Ghana international as their token in support of their former player who recently buried his father.

This forms part of the group’s benevolent and welfare act to the team, which has recently included goalkeeper Samuel Akurugu and midfielder Samudeen Ibrahim among others.

The presentation was made to Yaw Preko after his side had beaten Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0 in their Ghana Premier League (GPL) encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday.

Hearts of Oak Ready For Last Three GPL Games - Yaw Preko

Accra Hearts of Oak acting head coach Yaw Preko says the team is ready for the last three games in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and will give it their all to finish on a high.

The Phobians will play back-to-back home games against Ebusua Dwarfs and Medeama SC in Accra with their last league game at Bekwai against New Edubiase United.

This Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium they will host Ebusua Dwarfs in the first of those games and Coach Preko said his players are fully ready for the game after a good week of training.

“So far so good, we have been working very hard,” he told the clubs official newspaper, the Hearts News adding that they have had time to work on some areas of their game during the league break and hope to put that into work starting with Sunday’s game.

The players he said are picking up psychologically and are eager to show that they can bounce back up after going seven games without a win in the ongoing GPL.

“I believe the players are ready to react because we have worked on that and we will be going all out to get the points on Sunday and in the two other games we will play.”

He charged the fans to offer maximum support for the reminder of the season and believes with them, Hearts of Oak can finish the season on a high.

With three games to end the campaign, Accra Hearts of Oak are six points behind the leaders Wa All Stars and will need to win all of their remaining games to stand in with a chance of winning the title.

Yaw Preko Urges Hearts Fans Not Lose Hope

Accra Hearts of Oak acting head coach Yaw Preko has urged fans of the club not lose hope for the remaining three games of the season believing they still have what it takes to be successful.

With three games to end the Ghana Premier League (GPL) season, the Phobians are six points behind the leaders Wa All Stars and will have to win all their remaining games to have a chance of winning the competition.

And Preko who has assumed the reigns as head coach of the club for the last three games of the season, believes with the in the support of the fans, the team can cross the finish line successfully.

The former Ghana international is preparing the boys for the resumption of the league on Sunday and said he has been impressed with the commitment from the boys.

“The fans should not lose hope. This is Accra Hearts of Oak. Our motto is “Never Say Die” and we know we have to give the fans more than we have been doing” Preko told the club’s official Newspaper, the Hearts News.

“They should support us and be at the stadium in their numbers to bring back the Accra Hearts of Oak spirit in these last three games and I believe if they come in their numbers to ginger the boys to perform’ he added.

“I believe with the good support of the fans we will do well in the rest of our games and hopefully, we will achieve something great at the end of the season” he said.

Preko believes that the players will be ready before the Ebusua Dwarfs game on Sunday and is confident that they will win the three points at stake.

Hearts will play two home games in Accra against Ebusua Dwarfs and Medeama SC before ending their campaign with an away encounter against New Edubiase United at Bekwai.

Newly-appointed interim coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Yaw Preko, expressed his displeasure at his players’ body language in his first training session.

Preko was elevated from his assistant coaching role of the club to an interim coach after the demotion of head trainer, Sergio Traguil to the club’s feeder side, Auroras FC, for non-performance in his nine-match tenure.

And, in his first training session as interim coach of the club today, Yaw Preko assured fans that his players’ body demeanor will change before the GPL resumes, as the team begins stern preparation for the last three games of the league.

“The players’ body language is something that we have talked about. It is something that we have to work on because we still have less time to do that. I’m sure that by next week before the Dwarfs game, we’d be ready“, Preko said.

He was then asked whether his team will go for the kill in the final three games after the supporters’ front of the club threatened to abandon their games amid management instability.

“The fans should not lose hope. This is Accra Hearts of Oak, and our motto is “Never Say Die” and we’re aware that we’ve performed below our level“, he said.

“They should support and come in their numbers and they should bring the Hearts of Oak spirit in these last three games and I believe if they come in their numbers to ginger the boys, they would also get the best out of the boys.

“I believe with the good support of the fans, and I’ve seen Hearts of Oak when it comes to support from the fans and how far they can go and take them. And I want to tell them to continue giving that support,” Preko concluded.

The hierarchy of Hearts of Oak are considering demoting assistant coach, Yaw Preko to the U-20 side of the club, known as Auroras.

Yaw Preko and Yakubu Nassamu has been accused of sabotaging Kenichi Yatsushashi successor, Sergio Traguil.

According to sources, the Yaw Preko and Nassamu Yakubu who worked under Kenichi Yatsushashi, were unhappy the club parted ways with the Japanese-American trainer and earlier threatened to resign.

However, they rescinded their decision and agreed to work under Sergio Traguil, but after the club’s win over Dreams FC where the Portuguese was hailed by the media, the duo have been accused of ‘issuing different instructions to the players at the blind side of Sergio Traguil due to (local) language barrier. ”

The duo were contacted by Sportscrusader.com on Saturday, and they answered this portals question with the “where is this one too coming from.”

Some of management members who spoke to this portal are aware the allegations and have promised to solve the matter soon.

Sportscrusader.com can confirm that the club will demote Yaw Preko to junior team, if he rejects it, he will be sacked.

Nassamu will be dismissed outrightly.

The search for assistant coach has began. Elton Nunes will be appointed the assistant coach. He will continue his services as video analyst and scout.

Sergio Retains Hearts Assistance

Hearts of Oak new coach Sergio Daniel Traguil will retain the services of Yaw Preko and Yakubu Nassamu as his first team assistants, Sportscrusader.com can confirm.

The Portuguese coach was named Kenichi Yatsushashi’s successor, though the club is adamant Yaw Preko will lead the first team until a permanent successor is found.

However, the club introduced the “New Mourinho” to the team and he led training immediately after the introduction.

After working with Yaw Preko and Nassamu Yakubu for only one day, sources says Sergio is convinced he can work with them to achieve success, though the board wanted him to use his backroom staff.

His assistant, Eltone Nunes will be assigned to scout players for the youth team.

Sources say, Sergio Daniel is confident of building a ‘strong structure’, and will give his best for the club.

Yaw Preko Praises Fringe Players

The assistant coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Yaw Preko has heaped praises on the fringe players in the team after their victory over Wassaman United.

The Phobians walked smoothly in the last 32 teams in the MTN FA Cup after a convincing 3-0 win over Division One side, Wassaman United at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday.

And Preko was happy the players who have not had much minutes on the pitch in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

“Most of the players were making their competitive debut this season and they did not disappoint. They struggled a bit but quickly hit their stride and delivered.

“The first 20-24 minutes was difficult. We knew the match was going to be difficult but we did not give up,” Preko said.

The output of the players according tPreko, is a good indication that there massive competition for place in the team.

“We need competition in the team. Those who didn’t play today must know that it’s not a one man team. If you sleep your place may be taken by another.” He warned.

Kenneth Okoro scored twice, one in each half to help the team qualify to the last 32 teams and Preko also singled youngster out for praise.

“Kenneth has what it takes but it’s unfortunate he has been hit with constant injuries. I was not surprise with goals he scored because he does it in training.”

MTN FA Cup Match Report: Hearts Hammer Wassaman

Accra Hearts of Oak extended their blistering start in the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League to the MTN FA Cup by beating Wassaman United 3-0 on  Sunday.

The dominant Phobians were led by assistant coach Yaw Preko for the Football Association’ s Cup competition at the Accra Sports Stadium in the absence of head coach, Kenichi Yatsuhashi.

Yaw Preko did not disappoint his boss as the team he chose rose to the occasion to open their start in the cup campaign with a super performance. Goals from Kenneth Okoro and Kwame Kizito were enough to brighten the road to this MTN FA Cup competition for the Phobians.

Hearts dominated every aspect of the game and their dominance did not end in vain. The first opportunity fell the way of Hearts but before Kwame Kizito could shoot, the the flag went up for offside.

Wassaman United who started the game with a counter-attacking approach,  bombed down the right side of the Hearts defense but Hopson Acquah over hit his high cross which went off target.

The Phobians took advantage of Wassaman’s reluctance to open  up the game and punished them when they dozed off.

A long swinging cross into the box by Owusu Bempah caught the Wassaman defence standing aloof, and Kenneth Okoro rose above them and powered the ball low beyond the reach of the goalkeeper to open the scoring on the 35th minute mark.

Three minutes later Kwame Kizito doubled the advantage for the 2000 CAF Champions League winners with a thumping header.

The two quick goals killed off Wassaman United who failed to respond in the second half, allowing the former league champions to hold onto the lead whilst lurking around for another.

Hearts of Oak enjoyed themselves and also entertained their fans in the stadium. Cosmos Dauda could have made it three after 52 minutes but his effort from close range was feeble to beat the goalkeeper.

The third goal finally arrived in added time when last week’s hero, Ibrahim Musah ghosted past the Wassaman United backline after a brilliant interplay with Kenneth Okoro, who powered home to nail the coffin on the visitors and send the Phobians to the last 32 of the competition.
