Former Hip Life artiste turned preacher, Yaw Siki last week rejected Sonnie Badu’s offer of help saying Sonnie Badu went against the Bible (Matthew chapter 6 vs. 1-4) where he, Sonnie made known to the public that he and his ministry would like to take care of him for some years.

However, Yaw Siki did not support what Sonnie Badu did for coming out public.

Sonnie Badu in replying Yaw Siki stated that Yaw Siki rejected the offer when his PR started asking questions among others like ‘Who is his spiritual father, would he like to go to Bible school and more.’

Yaw Siki was on Restoration TV show hosted by Stacy Amoateng. When asked whether he will like to go to the Bible school or not.

He said, “I rely on the Holy Spirit for everything. The Holy Spirit is my teacher, initially I wanted to go to Bible school but the Holy Spirit is in control of my life. I’m no longer going, the Holy Spirit is my teacher now, and the Holy Spirit reveals things to me”, he answered.

Talking of whether he will still be doing music, he said, “All I do now is to preach the word; I do commercial preaching in day time, I also do dawn broadcasting but seldom and also in ‘trotro’.

He continued, “Initially that was what I wanted to do, so I even released a gospel tune but the Holy Spirit has directed me to just focus on the preaching and so I’ve stopped music, I will no longer do music, it will now be only preaching”, he answered.

On whether he has been fulfilled, according to Yaw Siki, he thinks he’s fulfilled. He said, “I think I am fulfilled, I’m complete in the Lord. I have that joy in me when I received a new message from God and I’m stepping out to go and preach it to the word”, he disclosed.

Sonnie Badu Replies Yaw Siki"s Allegations

Award winning gospel artiste, Sonnie Badu has reacted to claims by former hiplife artiste, Yaw Siki, that his intentions to help him [Yaw Siki] was for fame. According to him, his decision to make public his help to the now-turned evangelist was because of the interview he granted to Accra-based JoyFM, which was published on social media platforms.

“It has been drawn to our attention that the young man Yaw Siki has rejected our help based on the following reasons:

1. Because I made it public.

2. Because I want fame from him…

I will not answer the second one. I would think at least he would have been thankful to us for speaking about his situation since it had generated a lot of [interest]. However, to answer his first accusation, the only reason we put it out on Instagram and social media was, We discovered him on social media from an interview he granted in the first place. If he feels he did not need help he should not have granted the interview. No normal person would watch that and not want to help.
Having said this, whatever was allocated for him has gone into other charitable projects… We wish him well in all his endeavors … It’s still a great thing to serve the Lord so it’s a good decision and step he took since there is nothing in the secular world. We were actually interested in reviving his music in the gospel world as well since I was told he only has one single out.

He asked why Yaw Siki made his conditions public if he did not want help, adding that, “If he feels he did not need help he should not have granted the interview no normal person would watch that and not want to help”. The UK based artiste revealed, everything meant to be allocated to him would be channelled to other charitable projects following his decision to reject his support.

He said, “We wish him well in all his endeavours … It’s still a great thing to serve the Lord so it’s a good decision and step he took since there is nothing in the secular world. We were actually interested in reviving his music in the gospel world as well since I was told he only has one single out…”

Earlier the former hiplife artiste in an interview on Graphic Showbiz said he would not accept any help that comes from Sonnie Badu.

According to him, Sonnie Badu intended to get praises for himself from other people and that was why he made his decision public.

He added that Sonnie could have contacted him without involving the general public and not the medium he used in announcing his support. Issac Okai, known in showbiz as Yaw Siki survived an accident in the 2013 which left him bedridden for months and also turned him into a preacher of the gospel.

Yaw Siki Rejects Sonnie Badu’s Financial Assistance

Former Hiplife artiste, Yaw Siki, may be in need but he has politely turned down an offer made by UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician, Sonnie Badu, to assist him financially.

The singer said his rejection of Sonnie Badu’s offer was due to the fact that Sonnie Badu chose to make his kind gesture public rather than contact him privately.

Backing his decision with scriptures, Yaw Siki told Graphic Showbiz and on Daybreak Hitz in an interview that it was dishonourable for people to make their good deeds known to others just for human praise.

Yaw Siki said

I love my senior brother Sonnie Badu and I respect him so much and what he did is an act of righteousness but Matthew 6:1-4 says ‘Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven, so when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honoured by others.

Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you”, based on this word Jesus is against us doing charitable deeds and blowing our trumpet before us for self-glorification so I am not able to take the offer

“That isn’t to say that I don’t appreciate it but of what good is a blessing when you make your good deeds public for human praise. If he truly wanted to assist, he could have contacted me first without making it public. I’m not in support of that because my Christian beliefs are against that so upon careful consideration, I had to turn down the offer,” he said.

Yaw Siki, whose real name is Isaac Okai, is now an evangelist, and makes a living from offerings he receives after preaching in commercial buses and other places in the Tema Metropolis, as well as support from his family.

The young rapper gave his life to Christ after he escaped a near fatal accident on the Tema Motorway in 2013, a divine escape he attributes to the work of God who gave him a second chance to live and to use him as an instrument of His salvation.

“What I am doing now isn’t new to me at all. I was born and raised as a Christian with strict Christian values but I made the material things of this world more important to me than my salvation. I must say that I was lost but like the prodigal son, I’m back home now because God has given me a second chance,” he told Showbiz.

Yaw Siki, who first shot to fame in 2011, was noted for his risqué lyrics, a period the evangelist described as “the dark moments” of his life. From his high-flying days as a secular musician during which time he enjoyed a huge following, Yaw Siki lives a relatively lonely life with fewer followers since becoming a born-again Christian, admitting he knows his new lifestyle would not appeal to all.

Narrating his experience after the motor accident, Yaw Siki said the unfortunate incident left him bed-ridden for months and almost helpless.

“I couldn’t take my bath for three months, I had to be assisted to do such things. It was a very unpleasant time for me. I coiled into my shell and reflected on what life had to offer me and how I had used my youthful days to champion the devil’s kingdom rather than that of God.

Since giving his life to Christ, Yaw has released songs such as Thank You, Ohene and Medi Wo Akyi. Unfortunately, the songs did not get attention as his secular songs did but that, he said, was not much of a problem to him now since God has directed him to abandon music and concentrate on evangelism.

“I have tasted both worlds and I know there is nothing good in what I was doing previously. I pray my brothers and sisters find out the truth and follow the right path,” he added.

Former hiplife artiste Isaac Okai, popularly known as Yaw Siki, after surviving a gory accident in 2013, now lives on preaching the gospel of Christ.

The incident, which happened on the Accra-Tema Motorway did not just leave the artiste bedridden for months, it also renewed his faith in God.

Yaw Siki, who had his debut hiplife song ‘Wope Dodo’ in 2011, switched from secular music to gospel in appreciation of God’s favour for him and the second chance offered him.

“One inch away from death God gave me a second chance. They said there’s this thing called hallow vest, that vest was screwed to my forehead, actually touching my scalp and I had to lay on my back for three months,” he recounted.

Yaw Siki added that, “I couldn’t take my bath for three months, they had to do dry cleaning for three months, it wasn’t a pleasant experience and so if today if I am here, it’s by His grace, I am saved by grace, I have been given a second chance, forgiven and healed.”

Since giving his life to Christ, he has released tracks like ‘Thank You’, ‘Ohene’ and ‘Medi Wekyi’.

Unfortunately, these songs have not been given same attention like the secular ones he did. According the former hiplife musician, who now prefers to be called Yaw, the media still took interest in his old works.

Though he had friends from the industry to come to his aid during the traumatic experience, they fled before long.

“The acceptance they (gave) me, they do not associate or accept or receive me like how they used to because now. But I have a different mindset [and] a different goal ahead of me.

“I feel rejected, I am human [being] but already the bible has made me know that if I am in Christ I am not of this world and so definitely once I am not of this world and not doing the worldly things then I cannot associate with them,” he opined.

After battling with himself on his next line of action, Yaw says God gave him yet another direction.

“I was praying last year in December and then the spirit just prophesied through my own self that I should preach in communities 7,8,9 and 10 (all in Tema) this year.”

Yaw turns 30 this year and out of curiosity, he was asked how he fends for himself? He disclosed that, he gets financial assistance from family and also receives tokens from preaching the word of God.

“(With) my bills, my family supports me and then when I preach, people give [me money], when I preach I do not ask but when I finish and some people call me, oh take this, take that and all with family support I am able to pay bills.”

“Last year December, I [preached] at the Motorway Roundabout and a man gave me GHc500. That’s the highest I have received so far,” he disclosed.

“I preach in the Trotros (Commercial buses). I preach in between lanes in the communities and you see that people will not give you that big amount for preaching to them but I don’t mind,” Yaw concluded.
