Bashiru Hayford Set For Ashgold Exit

Defending Ghana Premier League (GL) champions, Obuasi Ashanti Gold is set to lose the services of head coach, Bashiru Hayford at the end of the 2015/816 season.

The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko coach’s job has come under heavy criticism after starting poorly the defends to the title they won in the 2014/15 with just two wins, three defeats and ten draws inn the first half of the current season.

The former Heart of Lions technical handler since the poor league start has been fighting his way out of the club after supporters of the the ‘Aboakese’ side called for his exit from the club as they ended the first half of the season in 11th position.
Sportscrusader.com sources has disclosed the tough-talking coach has been given the greenlight by his employers to depart the club after the current season as both parties have agreed terms on his exit.

The Miners finished 11th at the end of the first round.

Head coach of Obuasi Ashantigold, Bashiru Hayford has mentioned that his side were superior to Kotoko in the mid-week outstanding Ghana premier league clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, last Wednesday.

 

Ashgold travelled to Kumasi to play Kotoko in an outstanding premier league fixture due to the Obuasi based club’s commitment in the CAF champions league competition.

The game ended goalless to the disappointment of both sides who were trying to win after dropping points in their previous games but coach Hayford believes there was only one side interested in winning and that was, Ashgold.

Speaking to the media after the game, Hayford admitted that the two sides put up a good performance but Ashgold were much better than Kotoko.

He said, “both sides played very well only that we (Ashgold) were slightly ahead of them. We created a number of chances that we should have been converted but my strikers failed me.”

Ashgold Is Not Ready For Champions League

Former Ghana defender James Kuuku Dadzie has dismissed every chance of Obuasi Ashgold excelling in the CAF champions league due to limited competitive going into the competition.

 

The Obuasi based club qualified for the 2015/16 champions league as league champions of Ghana and will be returning to a competition that used to be a playing ground the ‘Aboakese’ club but have been absent for over a decade.

 

Ashgold are yet to impress n the off-season with no win against any premier league opposition and that has got many football pundits and fans questioning their readiness for the game against Mo Bejaia on Sunday.

The 2014/15 Ghana premier league champion’s latest defeat at the hands of MTN FA cup champions, Medeama SC last Sunday has not helped their chances of instilling hope in their fans and it is based on these stats the former Black Stars defender, Kuuku Dadzie believes Ashgold won’t last in the knock-out tournament.

 

He said,”Ashgold as a club is not prepared for Africa and based on their performances in some of the games justifies their unpreparedness for the continental competition.”

 

“With the league still in recess the players of Ashgold are short of match fitness else they would have been fit and found some rhythm among the players in their games and also allowed Coach Bashiru Hayford know his

new signings especially better,” he added.

 

 

Ashgold will host their Algerian counterpart, Mo Bejaia at the Len Clay stadium on Sunday, 14th February.

Former Liberty professionals coach, J.E. Sarpong has taken a swipe at his colleagues and the coaching association for been cowards in voicing out their opinion in the relation to the improper running of football in the country.

 

 

Some Ghanaian coaches have been noted to freely unleash their candid views when the management and administrators of football in Ghana appear to be deviating from their assigned duties and coach Sarpong is one who isn’t afraid to speak.

 

After the Ethics committee of the FA ruled on the bribery allegation involving Techiman City and Wa Africa United the skeptics of Ghana football have been vocal expressing fear with the commencement of the league as Techiman City led by president, Charles Kwawdo Kumi are threatening the league with a court injunction.

 

Speaking in an interview to Kumasi based, Boss fm, coach Sarpong said, “Ghanaian coaches are ego-eccentric – they all have selfish interest whether it is good or bad we are all equally involved. In an instance when one decides to be vocal you will be tagged as the ‘epitome of all knowledge.”

 

“If I speak, David Duncan speaks and so does Bashiru Hayford andthe rest they (GFA) will take us serious. But should I speak alone I get branded with names as been arrogant and big-mouthed and this is all because the coaching association is toothless and does not function unlike it is in Europe and even nearby Cameroun,” he added.

AshantiGold coach Bashiru Hayford has talked the favourite tag and win-at-all cost suggestion from football pundits and some fans going into the annual curtain-raiser for the upcoming 2015/16 Ghana premier league season.

 

 

Ashantigold, First Capital Plus Bank Premier League winners last season will lock horns with FA Cup winners, Medeama SC at the Accra Sports Stadium in the season-opening encounter.

 

The 2014/15 Ghana premier league champions will need this game as the Obuasi based prepare for a return to CAF champions competition against Algerian side, Mo Bejaia on February, 14 after been absent  for over a decade.

 

Head coach of Ashgold, Bashiru Hayford says his target for the game (super clash) is for his charges to display good performance on the day ahead of their CAF Champions League,

 

The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko said, “we are not under any form of pressure all that we need is the performance on the day not even a win.”

 

He added, “it doesn’t mean should we play better (against Medeama SC) we won’t win but a victory will encourage and motivate both players, technical team and the supporters going into the game against Bejaia.

 

 

The two sides will represent Ghana in upcoming CAF inter-club football competitions – the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, and the game could serve as an opportunity for both technical benches to have a close look at their teams as they head into Africa.

"I Will Slap You If You Ask Me That Stupid Question Again"-Fatau Dauda Threatens Journalist

It was near mayhem on Saturday at the Essipong stadium when Black Stars and Ashantigold goalkeeper Fatau Dauda threatened to beat up a journalist for asking what he termed a ‘stupid’ question.

The league champions were knocked out of the G-6 invitational tournament following their inability to go past eventual group winners Asante Kotoko.

Fatau Dauda who was rested in the goalless drawn game against Chelsea, returned to the post for Ashgold and he conceded a goal, one that was later equalized.

At the post match conference inside the Essipong stadium, one journalist during the questions nad answer time Empire FM’s sports Journalist Kojo Darko Sakyi-Gyinae asked the goalkeeper whether he felt rusty judging from the goal he conceded.

This by far did not go down well with the goalkeeper who threatened to beat up the journalist if he dares ask him such a ‘stupid’ question again.

“Are you a spectator or a Journalist? I don’t expect you to ask me such question. I will slap you if you ask me that stupid question again. Villager”.

It took some other journalist including the Kotoko PRO, Kweku Ahnkorah to restrain him, after which head coach of Ashgold Bahir Hayford decided to intervene.

“I’m his coach and I know his standard as a goalkeeper. Saying he is rusty is too strong for him and I’ll not allow him to answer that question.”He did whatever he could as a goalkeeper.”

“If you look at the goal he conceded, how was it his fault. For me he did whatever he could as a goalkeeper to keep us in the game until we equalized.”

“When you are standing in the goal post and you are not getting any action in terms of goals coming to you, I don’t think you will be jumping and catching air.”

“It is when the ball comes that he will catch it. So once you didn’t see him catching air, it doesn’t mean he is rusty”, Coach Bashir Hayford mentioned.
