Rev. Anyani Boadum Tells Churches - "It Is Time For Self Regulation"

Rt. Rev Nana Anyani Boadum, speaking about the need for a self regulatory body for the Christian community backed his argument by saying, “The sovereign God granted 99.9% free-will to mankind in the garden of Eden but placed 0.01% restraint on the forbidden tree. When Adam and Eve crossed the red line the entire creation suffered the consequences.

He went on to say that, “Freedom is not sheer vitality or lawless liberty. It is not ‘consumer freedom’; with which one does whatever one pleases. Instead, it drags us into a higher plane, where we assume a higher mind, to live according to laws which facilitate coexistence, mutuality and partnership.

As a predominantly religious country, our freedom is primarily underscored by our freedom to live in right relationship with God and with others, that depicts self-giving and community building love without hindrances or compulsions from others.

Time for self regulation.

I opposed the controversial PNDC Law 221 that sought to regulate the activities of churches because matters of faith and traditional Biblical beliefs cannot be regulated by secular governments.

But viewed in its broadest perspectives, the new interest in curbing the activities of wayward pastors in the Church is actually, a protest against unbridled freedom. It is an evidence of the widespread hunger for and rule of law in the country.

Considering the wanton abuse of religious rights and freedom by the very people in whose interest that freedom exist, I propose the setting up of a self regulatory body by the Christian Councils clothed with a legal backing but not powered by the State, either in alliance or through sponsorship of any kind.

This was what I sought for in my interview with Daily Graphic of February 18th, 2016. Closing our eyes to the dented image of the church is an indictment on the existing Christian councils.

The Christian councils should as a matter of urgency coalesce to streamline activities of the independent churches in Ghana.

The Pentecostal, Charismatic and the Prophetic fraternity should not lack the spine, the initiative and the structure to deal with the rogue section of the church who in their outward character resembles the above named denominations.

We are on daily basis reminded about the dangers of religious indiscipline venting into social disorders and weird religious doctrines which makes some people believe they have the exclusive right to resort to sheer thievery and criminality under the cloak of religion.”

Police Must Investigate Death Threats Issued By Pastors – Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong

The Christian Council of Ghana has called on the police and other professional bodies to investigate death threats issued by some men of God on their colleague pastors.

General Secretary of the Council, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong says “threatening to kill somebody is out of the realm of religion, you are into crime. It is a statement that when some professionals hear, they must move”.

Rev. Opuni-Frimpong was speaking on the topic, “Who Brings the Preacher to Book In Ghana” on Joy FM’s Christian talk show, ‘A Walk with Jesus’ Sunday evening.

His comments also come on the back of a statement released by the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, condemning verbal attacks by Pastor of the International Godsway Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim on its Rt. Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah.

Rt Rev Korankye Ankrah, heads the Royalhouse Chapel International and is the 1^st Vice President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council.

“When somebody is on air, that is TV or radio and he’s threatening that ‘I will kill somebody’, somebody is producing that programme. There’s a camera man who’s filming that. There’s an editor who’s working on that. Now, that is where professionalism must come in. Shouldn’t somebody shut that camera? That programme? Shouldn’t somebody say that when you are threatening to kill somebody, Osofo you have moved from the realms of religion, you are in the realm of the law?” quizzed Rev. Opuni-Frimpong.

He adds “when pastors break the law, the law must take its course because the mere fact that somebody walks to us in the name of God, doesn’t mean the person is over and above the law in this country”

He said if Ghanaians will not allow politicians to destroy the country, then they should not allow religious leaders to also destroy it.

Rev. Opuni-Frimpong also urged Ghanaians to be responsible for the safety of the country.

Christian Council: Ghanaians Must Stay Focus To Move Country Forward

The Christian Council of Ghana is challenging Ghanaians to be collectively responsible for the future of Ghana.

The Council believes that after 59 years of independence the country has stood out as an example for peace and stability in the world.

 

General Secretary of the Christian Council Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong cautioned that the country will not move forward unless all Ghanaians get involved in the process.

“As a people, we have had our ups and downs, our good times and bad times. But in all we can still thank God and congratulate ourselves for what we have been to achieve together,” he said.

Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong said although the country is currently facing challenges, there is still hope.

He admonished leaders in various sectors of the country to rally support for a collective responsibility for the nation’s future progress.

“No group of individuals, no political party, no ethnic group should give us the impression that some people are not needed. Everybody counts,” Rev Opuni Frimpong said.

Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong said those at the helm of affairs in the country must be tolerant of other people’s views since that was the only way the country’s effort progress would become meaningful.
