David Accam"s Brace Earns Chicago Fire US Cup Quarters

Returning to form Ghanaian forward, David Accam extended his Major League Soccer (MLS) goal scoring form into the cup ties as his brace book Chicago Fire a quarter final berth.


The striker cum winger registered two quick goals to earn Chicago Fire a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew.


The former Right to Dream Academy forward took his season tally to 8 goals in 9 matches with two stupendous strike to extend Chicago’s US cup journey.







Accam accounted for his lost time on the treatment table with four goals in his last four matches since returning from injury for the high flying Chicago based MLS.


Ethan Finley’s 79 minutes spot kick for Columbus had little impact on the game as the Ghanaian import carted his side into the last eight.

David Accam Rated Third Best Player MLS Openers

Ghanaian forward David Accam has been rated as the third most productive player in the opening matches of the 2016 MLS season.


The Chicago Fire striker opened his account for the season with a cool spot kick in their home reverse to the expensively assembled NYCFC and has been statistically ranked into the top three best players in the American top flight.


The Black Stars forward stormed the MLS across the 2015 season to earn a debut call up Avrant Grant’s 2015 AFCON spot for the Nation’s Cup and has extended his splendid form into the 2016 openers.


Montreal Impact Ignacio Pianti leads the MLS power ranking with 2,102 points for his deadly form in the first matches of the season and is been matched closely by LA Galaxy Magee with 1,644 points to his name.


David Accam then shook off New England Revolution’s Diego Fagunde for the third spot, just six points ahead of the versatile Diego.


Thormas Macnamara proved crucial for New York City FC in the opening day triumph and has been been rewarded with a place in the last five of the statistically ranked players in the MLS.


David Accam and Macnara exchanged strikes in NYCFC 3-4 reverse over Chicago fire in the opening MLS matches of the season.


Accam pocketed 10 league goals in his 26 matches played for Chicago across the 2015 MLS season after a monstrous form in Sweden with Helsinborg that saw him returned an impressive 35 goals in just 79 matches.

Chicago fire and Ghanaian international, David Accam has been linked with a January transfer to English premier league side, Stoke city.


 


Accam, 25, has been training with the English side to keep up in shape as the MLS 2014/15 season ended in November. The 5 ft 8″ versatile forward who can play as a winger as well has scored 10 – goals in 24 – appearances and it’s this form that has made him a hot prospect for Mark Hughes to try snatch him away from the Major League Soccer side.


 


Chicago fire General manager, Nelson Rodriguez told Comcast Sportsnet in an interview has rubbished reports linking the Ghanaian forward with a move to the Stoke city.


He said, “David is a key part of our team and a key part of our plans for 2016 and beyond. I don’t really understand where the rumours have originated from and why they even exist. We have had no discussions at all with Stoke or any other team for his transfer or service.”

He answered when asked about Accam training at Stoke, he said, “to David’s credit, he wants to have a bigger and better season than he did last year. He thought that getting a head start on training would put him in a better position to achieve that goal of an improved season in 2016 and we were pleased to accommodate his request.


 


Though Roudriguez is sure Chicago fire will retain David’s services, he was open to future opportunities for the young Ghanaian forward. “I’ve learnt never to say, or rarely to say ‘never’, but it would be extremely difficult,” the administrator said.


 


The former Right To Dream Academy forward is concentrating on his play and not allowing the rumours to distort his plans for the upcoming MLS season.
