2018 AWCON : Ghana Declared Host

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Ghana to host the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

Ghana were awarded the rights due to the successfully hosting of previous CAF tournaments in recent times which includes the 2009 African Youth Championship and the 2000 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations and also after emerging as the only country to bid for the tournament.

Meanwhile the Black Queens are in camp vigorously preparing for this years’ tournament scheduled to be staged in Cameroon from November 19 to December 3.

Black Queens coach,Yusif Basigi, has invited 34 players for camping ahead of Africa Women Nations Cup of Nations to be staged in Cameroon from 19th November – 3rd December 2016.

The players are to report at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence- Prampram Tuesday 27th September 2016 4pm.

Ghana Coach Laments Delayed Team Camp

Black Queens Coach, Yussif Basigi has expressed his disappointment of not being able to call for an early camp ahead of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations that is scheduled to kick-start in November.

Ghana is in a very difficult group together with defending champions Nigeria, Mali and Kenya.

Coach Basigi told Sportscrusader.com that, he is hopeful of calling for an early camp, but was still waiting on the directives from the management committee of the Black Queens.

He said: “It’s been a headache for me, not being able to call for an early camp has somehow distorted my plans, nonetheless, I hope to receive directive from management so as to commence camp as soon as possible.”

Basigi also reiterated the belief in his players, both local and foreign based, as regards their readiness to make Ghana proud in the upcoming championship where the Black Queens are yet to win its first honour as a team.

Coach of Black Queens, Yussif Basigi, has shared his thoughts on the recent Africa Women’s Cup of Nations draw, that saw Ghana being paired with defending Champions Nigeria, Mali and Kenya in Group B.

 

The finals, which is scheduled to kick-start on November 19 in Cameroon, will see the Black Queens of Ghana attempt to claim its first honours in the competition since its inception in 1991.

In an interview with Sportscrudsader.com, Coach Basigi highlighted the difficulty in being paired with eight-time winner Nigeria, and Mali, who are an emerging force in women football across the continent.

“There is no doubt as to how difficult the group is, but I’m hopeful we will sail through from the group phase into the knock-out stages.

“Playing against newcomers, Kenya, will be one of the toughest matches but I have belief in my team, and I’m ready for the championship.”

The Black Queens have made 11 appearances at the championship and, have lost to Nigeria in the 1998, 2002 and 2006 finals.

FIFA RANKINGS: Nigeria Lead Ghana In Africa

The Black Queens of Ghana have maintained their 46th position in the FIFA Women’s Rankings released by the world football governing body for the month of August.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are first in Africa, followed by Black Queens, with Cameroon,

South Africa and Equatorial Guinea making the top five respectively.

Black Queens, last month, were annihilated 11-0 by Germany in a friendly match played

in Paderborn, but the Black Queens have already qualified to the Africa Women Nations Cup in Cameroon later in the year .

Black Queens Depart for Germany Friendly

The Black Queens will leave Accra on Wednesday morning to Paderborn, Germany for a friendly against the German Women’s national team on Friday, July 22.

 

The delegation who are expected to leave Accra at dawn on Wednesday will be led by management committee chairperson, Madam Leanier Addy and coach Yusif Basigi and his technical team.

 

The friendly will be beneficial for both national teams as Germany prepares for the Olympics next month in Rio de Janeiro, where they will face Zimbabwe, Australia and Canada in the group stage.

 

Doris Fitschen, the Manager of Germany’s national team said in an interview,that  “Ghana was our first-choice opponents because we desperately wanted to test ourselves against an African team to round up our preparation for the Olympics… Their style of play is very similar to our first opposition at the games, Zimbabwe.”

The Black Queens, however, are also preparing for a tournament themselves.

 

In November and December they will be one of eight teams competing in the Africa Women Cup of Nations.

The tournament will be hosted by Cameroon as the Black Queens make their 11th appearance in history.

Of the 23 original players invited to the training camp last week, only 18 will make the trip to Germany

Coach of the Black Queens of Ghana Yusif Basigi has named his squad for the international friendly against Germany next week.

Coach Basigi called up 23 players for the high-profile friendly against the European powerhouse.

Both foreign and locally based players have been called for the game,as Black Maidens captain Sandra Owusu Ansah has earned her debut call up

The team is expected to begin camping on Wednesday at the Ghanaman Soccer School of Excellence in Prampram.

Black Queens coach, Yussif Basiqi has expressed his shock towards sudden death of former Boss of Ghana Football Association(GFA) and coach of the Black Stars, Ben Koufie who died yesterday age 84.

 

The Sekondi Hasaacas trainer relished great memories he shared with Mr. Kuofie who he touted as a “Man of self discipline’ and as a person who revolutionized the football tactics in Ghana

In an interview with Sportscrusader.com coach Basiqi said ” we wished he stayed longer so that we could learn more from him,he revolutionized football both as coach and administrator,he has left an ever reinforcing stature in us that will leave with us forever.”

 

“He took as through various coaching course which was very fruitful especially to me with regards to in-depth knowledge about the game of football, and to cut the long story short,he is easily approachable”.

Coach Basiqi went to express his condolence to the family and entreated them to be strong in this challenging moment and he further entreated Ghanaians to pray for the family.

The Black Queens of Ghana Black have maintained their 48th position on the FIFA Women’s Ranking released by FIFA in the month of April

 

Nigeria are still first in Africa,immediately followed by Cameroon with the female national team of Ghana in third place.

 

The Black Queens are looking good to qualifier for the African Women Nations Cup in Cameroon later in the year after defeating Tunisia 2-1 in the Africa Women’s Championship qualifiers

 

The team will return to the country on Friday to continue their build-p for the reverse fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, but Black Queens goalkeeper Patricia Mantey will miss the team’s return leg after receiving her matching orders against tunisia
