Medeama SC head coach Tom Strand has expressed his disappointment with Ghana government for not offering financial backing to Ghanaian representing the country in CAF inter-club football competitions – Confederation Cup and Champions League.

The MTN FA Cup winner believes clubs should not be left to fight their battles alone because they are flying not only the club’s flag to the rest of Africa, but to the country’s as well.

Medeama SC defeated Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Essipong Stadium last season to secure a ticket to represent Ghana in CAF’s second flagship competition, the CAF Confederation cup.

They will travel across the continent to play the best clubs and that will require the club having a strong financial muscle.

And Tom Strand is disappointed government has folded their arms whilst the clubs are struggling.

“We are going to represent Ghana outside in Africa but the Ghana government is not interested in supporting us, I don’t understand why the government is not doing anything to support us,” Tom Strand told Otec FM.

He added “The government do not want us to compete the best with the talents in this country.  To me, it is disappointing the government don’t want us to have the best.

“We are doing all we can to do our best when we get into the CAF’s competition [Confederation Cup]. If the government is not ready to offer us any support we will go out there and do it for the people of Ghana.” He said.

Cape Coast Stadium Will Be Completed This Month, January

Newly Built Cape Coast Stadium Is ‘Almost Done’ – MOYS

The 15, 000 capacity Cape Coast stadium is in its finally stage of completion and this new edifice is part of Ghana’s ambitions to expand sports and also develop infrastructure across the country.

 

 

The stadium, according to President John Dramani Mahama is a gift from the Government of the People’s republic of China to Ghana in memory of the late President John Evans Atta Mills. the project started in 2012 and when officially completed and handed over, will bring to a total number of five the number standard stadia in Ghana.

 

The Accra and Kumasi stadia were refurbished and capacity also increased from 20,000 to 40,000 during Ghana’s preparation to host AFCON 2008 and two new ones were built in Essipong (Western region) and Tamale (Northern region) respectively. The newly built Essipong and Tamale have tartan tracks for athletes to train as the refurbished Accra and Kumasi had the old tracks removed.

 

“On January 31, the contractor will finally hand over the stadium to us [ministry and the National Sports Authority] to pave the way for the handing over and taking over the ceremony,” Dr. Mustapha Ahmed told Asempa FM.

The sports minister added, “After that, a particular date will be set by the government for an opening ceremony to officially announce that the stadium is ready for use. What amuses me is that there are not only facilities for football there. Some other sporting disciplines will also have training facilities.”

 

The stadium which is designed by China IPPR International engineering corporation features a 300 car parking capacity, two basketball fields, a handball court and tennis court. It also has an indoor facility to be used for indoor games.
