Burma Camp Tennis Club (BCTC) beat Sakumono Tennis Club (STC) 9-7 in a first league encounter of special tournaments between the two clubs in Sakumono Tennis club house last Saturday.

 

The visitors BCTC beat STC in the singles 5-0, but the host STC reorganizes themselves very were and won 7-4 in the doubles.

The BCTC members, made of Adu Sarkodie, KojoEssel and Kwasi Nkansah showed class with some impressive performance to overcome their counterparts in the singles tournaments.

In the doubles category, a win from STC’s Tina and Davis as well as Ken/Stephen, Addy/George, Nii/Ismailia,Tetteh/Bonsu, Fetus/ Henry and PRO of the club Sakumono Tennis Club Kumordzie/Adubla but the speed exhibited by Burma Camp Tennis Club’s Captain Adokwei/ Charles, Agyeman/ Nkansah, Ebenezer/ Nii and Kesseh/ Adjeimade it impossible for the home team to cope with, obviously leading to their victory which looked to have won over the watching crowd.

Speaking to tennisgh.com the PRO of Sakumono Tennis Club described the event as very useful for socialization, exercising and networking, and said they are looking forward to overturn the result in the return encounter.

A New Record Set In The National Table Tennis League

Ghana Immigration Service produced the most scintillating performance so far in Ghana’s Table Tennis history when they destroyed fellow title contenders Ghana Revenue Authority and in-form Ghana Fire Service 3—2 respectively in National Table Tennis at the Accra Sports Stadium.

 

Two players namely Derek Abrefa (ranked 13th in Africa)  and Emmanuel Commey (ranked 27th in Africa) played an integral role by showing class in overpowering their foes in what is still being touted as the ‘crème de la crème’ performance since table tennis started in Ghana.

Ghana Immigration service had lost two of their top players in the persons of Felix Lartey and Emmanuel Asante to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) world ranking professional tournament in Nigeria and so they had to do with the pair of Derek Abrefa and Emmanuel Commey who recently won Bronze medals for Ghana at the All African Games in Brazzaville Congo in 2015.

With their opponents full of energy and ready to pick all the points at stake due to their numerical disadvantage, they drew strength and experience from the fact that they are still the best players in Ghana and delivered accordingly.

In an Interview with Sportscrusader.com, Abrefa said “he and his colleagues were preparing to embark on a training tour to China and Germany to better their careers as professional table tennis players.

 

They aim at becoming African champions in a few years, make Ghana a table tennis stronghold in Africa and also represent Ghana at future Olympic Games”.

 

He further went on to appeal to all corporate bodies, private companies, NGOs and individuals with love for the game of table tennis to come to their aid as they prepare for their professional training tour.

Ghana Tennis Federation To Organize Coaching Course

Under the auspices of International Tennis Federation (ITF), the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) in collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) will be organizing a Level Two coaching course at the media center, Accra Sports stadium.

The course is scheduled to take place from Monday, 23 May to Thursday, 2 June, 2016, at 8am daily.

Interested Active Level One coaches should please register with the Secretary General Madam Philipina Frimpong on 0249433703  or the Vice President Isaac Duah on 0244388922 by close of business on Friday, 14 May, 2016.

This training is opened to all countries in Sub Saharan Africa.

MacDan Tennis open slated for 25 – 30 April

The Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) has disclosed to sportscrusader.com that the third edition of the McDan Open tennis tournament will come off between 25 -30 April 2016.

The competition seeks to bring all the top tennis players from Ghana and the West Africa sub-region under one umbrella.

General Secretary for the Federation, Philipina Frimpong told sportscrusader.com that her outfit is looking forward to inviting some foreign nationals to participate in the open championship who will compete alongside the top local stars

She expressed confidence that the tournament will improve the quality of the game in Ghana.

“This is the third year in the McDan Open Tournament and it’s been very successful over the past two years, so, we hope to improve on this success annually,” she said.

The five day tournament will see players from all over the country trying to establish themselves for future qualifiers alongside their foreign counterparts.

Nike Suspends Contract With Sharapova

The most paid female athlete in the world Maria Sharapova has had her contract suspended by her kits sponsor Nike.

The five time grand slam winner on Monday admitted how she use performance enhancing drugs that was banned earlier this January by the World Anti Doping agency with conjunction with International Tennis Federation.

A statement released by Nike read ” “We have decided to suspend our relationship with Maria while the investigation continues,We will continue to monitor the situation.” the company said saddened and surprised” at her admission that she tested positive for a banned substance at the Australian Open in January”.

 

Sharopova who signed by Nike at the age of 11 admitted that she tested positive for a banned substance at the Australian Open in January.

In 2010, the 28-year-old tennis player signed a new eight-year contract with the US sportswear giant worth $70m as well as a cut on sales of her own branded clothes.

There is an expectation of lengthy ban to be handed of over to Sharapova by the ITF very soon.

Maria failed to check a list of a banned substance sent by the World anti- doping Agency in conjunction with the International Tennis Federation at the end of every year.

 

Under the rules of tennis anti doping program, Sharapova positive test would normally have been announced by the ITF, but the body has not finished it adjudication process.

Russian tennis stars Maria Sharapova  faces being ban from the sport of tennis as she tested positive for a banned substance at the Australian open in January.

 

The five – times Grand slam champion and the world highest paid athlete announced yesterday that she tested positive for a recently banned substance drug Meldonium.

 

Sharapova in a press conference said “i made a huge mistake. and i’ve let my fans down. Ive let this sport down that i have been playing since the age of four and that i love so deeply.”

 

Even though the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has not yet announced, Sharapova has already admitted of taking meldonium which she has been taking for several years until it was included recently in the list of banned substances by the ITF.

 

The Russian admitted not clicking the link sent to her by the ITF , which contained the list of banned drugs.
