Kwarasey More Determined Ahead Of MLS Season

Ghanaian International Goalkeeper Adam Kwaresey is excited about the start of the new Major League Soccer 2016 season as he looks forward to lead the Portland Timbers to retain the MLS title.

 

Kwaresey who finished the 2015 season with the most clean sheets in the Major League Soccer last season helped the Timbers to the title after defeating Columbus Crew in the Conference finals.

 

Kwaresey at a press conference said ” “I mean it’s a new season. What we did last year is over now. As a player you always want to win. Because we won it last year doesn’t mean that I am fine with not winning it this year. So, I am ready for the season and I want to repeat it.”

 

Portland Timbers open their season against Columbus Crew who they beat the MLS title to last year,the match will be played on Sunday,6 March 2016, 21 : 30 GMT.

Gershon Koffie (born August 25, 1991) is a Ghanaian footballer who currently plays for Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Major League Soccer (MLS).

 

Koffie,24, grew up in Accra, and began his soccer career with Rot-Weiss Accra – a development club affiliated with German club Rot-Weiss Essen – as a nine-year-old in 2000. He spent five years with Rot-Weiss Accra, before signing his first professional contract in 2006 with Ghanaian Division Two League team International Allies (now a premier league club) at the age of 15.

The 5ft 11in played four full seasons with International Allies, scoring 28 goals in all competitions, before leaving the club in 2009 to try to secure a spot with a professional team in Europe. Koffie was called up to the Ghana U-20 national team for the first time in July 2010.

 

The Vancouver midfielder was named in Ghana’s team for the 2011 African Youth Championship, starting against The Gambia on April 21, 2011. He was substituted after an hour for James Bissue. He made a substitute appearance against Cameroon on April 24, 2011 replacing Paul Aidoo in the 67th minute.

 

Gershon is eligible for Canada after he received his Canadian permanent residency in 2013.
