Ghana Goalkeeper Kwarasey Injured In MLS Game

Ghana goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey has suffered an injury playing for his Portland Timbers side in a Major League Soccer (MLS) game on Saturday.

The extent of the injury will be made known after club doctors assess the damage done to the 28-year old Ghana international.

Kwarasey is largely considered to be Ghana’s safest pair of hands and recently ended his self-imposed international strike after settling an impasse with goalkeeper’s trainer Nasamu Yakubu.

He was called-up for Ghana’s 2017 double-headed AFCON qualifiers against Mozambique but was an unused substitute in both games.

SPORTS CRUSADER TEAM OF THE WEEK

The Sports Crusader Team of the Week is an initiative introduced by the fastest growing sports web portal in Ghana to demonstrate how Ghanaian players perform for their various clubs abroad.

To set the records straight, as we have always done, players are selected based on the following criteria:

1. The Coefficient of the league they play

2. The competition they are in (If they are not playing league matches)

3. Consistency

4. The competition they face from other players playing for the same position.

5. The positions they play

6. The number of minutes played in the game, and

7. The contribution of the player to the success of the game.

Rabiu Mohamed played perhaps his best game of the season so far to make a return to the sports crusader team of the week for the first time in months with a brace of assist to his name.

The Kuban Krasnodor defensive screen feasted on the presence of Avrant Grant at the Spartak Arena to pan out classy performance in a 2-2 thriller with Spartak Moskva. The Russia based midfielder is joined in the middle of the pitch by Kwadwo Asamoah who announced his return with another masterful performance at the San Siro to put Juve on the verge.

Samuel Inkoom and Baba Rahman get the nod at the full backs whiles Rashid Sumaila partners John Boye for the central defensive pairing.

Jordan Ayew has been given the luxury of a roaming player behind Assifuah, Andre Ayew and Majeed Waris upfront.

Below is the Crusader Team of the Week and the number of minutes each player played.

Kwarasey Concedes Four Away Goals

Ghanaian custodian Adam Larson Kwarasey extended his dreadful start to the 2016 MLS campaign with another avalanche quartet of goals to his name.

Orlando City, compounded the woes of Timber with a heavy 4-1 spanking on the return of league action from the international break.

The Norwegian born Ghana international has made a slow start to the season with no clean sheet in the opening four fixtures for Portland Timbers.

The gargling custodian returned from the international assignment to ship four goals away to Orlando City on Monday to confirm his generous nature in the ongoing MLS.

The acrobatic custodian carved a niche for himself across the 2015 MLS with the competition record clean sheets and weekly save of the week awards but has so far failed to replicate such impressive form for the Timbers.

Kwarasey has so far allowed in 8 goals in the opening 4 matches and has to keep a shut out against any opposition in the MLS.

His dreadful form could cost him a place in the starting XI as Timbers continue their downwards spiral on the log.
