CAF Clears Guinea To Host Matches At Home
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the end of the Ebola outbreak in Guinea, two years after the epidemic began there.
In Guinea, the disease killed more than 2,500 people in the West African state, and a further 9,000 in neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone. Guinea was banned from hosting matches due to the outbreak of Ebola but early this year have been cleared to host international matches after the country.
Secretary general for confederation of Africn football (CAF),Hicham El Amrani, has released a letter from the continents football governing body declaring the ban officially lifted.
This news means the Guinea national football team, nicknamed Syli nationale are free to host any team at home.
The letter addressed to the president of Guinea,Alpha Condé, read, “CAF has learned with joy and relief the announcement by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 29 December 2015, officially confirming that Guinea is now declared Ebola free.
CAF thereby confirms lifting the ban on the organisation of continental matches in Guinea, and for all competitions organised by CAF.”
Guinea was banned from hosting international matches in August 2014 when the Ebola virus became endemic in the country and adopted Morocco as its home grounds for their international matches.
