Unity Match Preview: World XI v Black Stars

The message of peace through football continue today at the Accra sports stadium having started on Wednesday in Kumasi.


Galaxy of stars across the globe led by Stephen Appiah were mauled by Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara sports stadium, but the result was not the message, the people it brought — symbolising oneness was the goal which was achieve.


People with different affiliation trooped to the Baba Yara sports stadium, and the purpose of this afternoon’s game will be same as the stars continue to preach peace to Ghanaians ahead the general elections in November later this year.


Sol Campbell, one of the stars who is in Ghana noted that Ghana is ‘known for peace’ and called on Ghanaians to keep the image they’ve sold to the world by avoiding ‘violence’.


Stephen Appiah, the legendary Black Stars skipper who ‘redefined the Black Stars’ — uniting the team to fight for a common goal, which saw the senior national team qualify for three successive world cups, his thirst for unity at every endeavour keeps at the highest echelon of peace ambassador — and he is man beyond football.


The Black Stars will line up at the Accra sports stadium to entertain football-loving fans alongside the World XI which will see William Gallas, Dwight Yorke, Edgar Davids, Emile Heskey and host of others displaying their class with the ball.


The game will kick of at 4pm local time.

Ghana Is Known For Peace - Sol Campbell

Sol Campbell has noted that Ghana is known as peaceful country and has called on Ghanaians to foster peace ahead of the November 7, 2016 polls.


The former Arsenal defender who is in Ghana to support Stephen Appiah to use football as vehicle to preach peace, urge Ghanaians to keep the image the country has sold to the world by avoiding violence.







“Ghana is known for Peace, and that has to continue, I urge everyone to vote with a clean heart to avoid any violence,” he told Happy FM.


“That is the more reason why we are here, to help promote peace. So I wont to urge every citizen in the country to vote in peace in November.” he stated.


Sol Campbell and a host other international stars will play the Black Stars tomorrow at the Accra sports stadium.

Unity Match Preview: Kotoko Host World XI


It may not have any competitive tag but the galaxy of stars Wednesday’s Vodafone Unity match, between Kotoko and a World 11 select side, is expected to attract, will surely give fans a lot to cheer about.


The game, being organised by former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, is geared toward promoting peace in the country ahead of the general elections later this year.


Stephen Appiah, himself an excellent football icon, and someone who idolizes peace, will be at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium with a hosts of exceptional football personalities to engage the Porcupine Warriors in what promises to be an exciting evening of football. Kickoff is at 6pm.


Among the stars expected to grace the occasion are former Dutch international, Edgar Davies, England’s Sol Campbell and Middleborough’s George Boateng.


Already, Kotoko players have been talking about the game. They are promising to give the World 11 a stern opposition.


“We watched some of them and really admired them” said Amos Frimpong, captain of Kotoko as he spoke on the match in an interview at press time.


“Edgar Davies, for instance is one of the finest midfielders I have ever watched. Sol Campbell was also a great defender. I learnt so much from them. I would be glad to play with them on Wednesday evening” said Amos.


Asked whether the Porcupines wouldn’t be overawed by the stature of some of these big and impressive football figures that will be at the game or in fact, in the match, Amos Frimpong responded that, they would give their opponent fair taste of the revival that characterized Kotoko’s performance getting to the end of the league’s first round.


“We won’t be intimidated by their presence. We would face the squarely like we see them every day; after that, we will make friends” said the team captain.


The Porcupines will return from their one week break yesterday to begin preparations for the second half of the season.

Appiah Calls on National Peace Council (NPC)

Ex Black Stars captain and Peace Ambassador, Stephen Appiah continued with his Peace Tour, ahead of the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, with a call on the Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), Rev Emmanuel Asante.


Appiah, would lead a World XI side against Kumasi Asante Kotoko and the Ghana Black Stars on June 8 and 11, 2016 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium respectively, as the former Juventus talisman aims at using football to promote peace and unity ahead of the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

The ex-Hearts of Oak midfielder begun his tour with a visit to the Osu Mantse, His Majesty Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI last week.


Appiah, informed the Council that, he was ready to serve the nation and will do everything possible to ensure peace and unity in the country.

“There is always tension in the country anytime we draw closer to elections and this led me into discussions with event power-house Primeval Media, to organise a football match to preach peace and unity.


“If there should be electoral violence in Ghana, we would have no where to run to and so we must preserve the peace and unity in the country and I believe football is the best means to promote peace and unity in the country.

Rev. Asante, Chairman of the NPC, said his outfit was delighted at the initiative of the former Black Stars Captain and Primeval Media.


“It is a worthy exercise and you must be encouraged.


“If a son of the land is promoting a worthy course, it is right to support him and so the Council would throw its weight behind you.


“The NPC would offer infinite support to the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, in accordance with the Council’s aims and objectives.” He stated.


Rev. Asante commended Vodafone Ghana and other sponsors for supporting such a worthy cause Appiah.

“I’m excited to be part of Vodafone Unity Match” - Campbell

Former Arsenal and England player Sol Campbell, has said, he is excited to be part of the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, scheduled for June 8 and June 111, at the Baba Yara and Accra Sports Stadium respectively.


Speaking from his base in England, Campbell, who is among the tall list of international football icons invited for Vodafone Unity Match next said, he was happy to be joining former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah to play a unity match to promote peace and unity ahead of the 2016 General Elections.


 


According to Campbell, football remains symbol of peace and unity across the globe and he was looking forward to coming to Ghana to play in the two matches.


“I can’t wait to be part of this historic event. It’s going to be big in Ghana and i will definitely be part of the event”. Campbell stated.







Campbell, would join a group of international football icons to play Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on June 8 and return to Accra to play the Black Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium on June 11.


The event, an initiative of Primeval Media and former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah would be used to promote peace and unity ahead of the elections.


The two-legged match would be sponsored by communication giants Vodafone Ghana, with support from uniBank, NLA, Adidas, Ethiopian Airlines, Azar Chemical Industries, Tang Palace Hotel and TT Brothers.

VUM2016: World XI Forward Scores For Sunderland

Jermain Defoe scored a penalty in the final minute of stoppage-time as relegation-threatened Sunderland salvaged a dramatic 1-1 draw against Stoke on Saturday.


Desperate for points to boost their survival hopes, the Black Cats struggled to create clear-cut chances and it looked like Marko Arnautovic’s second-half goal would consign them to defeat.


But, with time running out, Defoe won and calmly converted a penalty after a lengthy delay to keep the Sunderland fans dreaming of survival.



The former Tottenham Hotspur forward will join 2016 Peace Ambassador, Stephen Appiah and world renowned ex and current footballers to form a World XI side in Ghana, in June this year.







They will play matches against record Ghana premier league champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and an Asamoah Gyan-led Ghana Black Stars on June 8 and 11 at the Kumasi and Accra Sports Stadia respectively in the much awaited, Vodafone Unity Match 2016 organised by Ghana’s premier event house, Primeval Media Ghana Limited.

The Primeval Media powered Vodafone Unity Match 2016 Press Soiree was held successfully at the Multi Purpose Court of the Accra Sports Stadium.


Peace Ambassador and former Ghana Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah led a star-studded football personalities such as, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, former Ghana Black Stars players – Laryea Kingston and Augustine Arhinful also teamed up with seasoned journalist, Karl Tuffuor and Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) President-elect, Kudjoe Fianoo just to name a few.

SWAG Endorses Unity Match

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), has endorsed Primeval Media initiative, Unity Match aimed at promoting peace and unity before, during and after this year’s elections.


Primeval Media, a renowned media firm known for churning out lead ideas not only for media, but for the betterment of the country through its portals, and the organization of events, will in conjunction with Stephen Appiah and Vodafone Ghana, is used football as a tool to preach oneness across the country.


And SWAG eulogized the idea, and promised to spread the message across the length and breadth of Ghana to ensure peace no matter the political differences.


“Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), first of all congratulates Primeval Media for putting this together,” former Happy FM sports broadcast journalist, Charles Osei Asibey who stepped up on behalf of SWAG president said.


“In November (later this year), candidates will be seeking for power. But if we want peace, if we want power, it is important we do this in one accord, and that is only possible through football.


“If there’s no peace, the country will be an island. It is important the sports media throw their weight behind you, and SWAG wants to assure you that we are going to give you the needed mileage.


“The campaign messages you want to roll out there as far as this event is concerned.”


A host of international stars will grace Ghana to play record premier league champions, Asante Kotoko on June 8 in Kumasi and the senior national team, Black Stars on 3 days later in Accra.

William Gallas Confirms Participation In Unity Match

Former Chelsea and French centre-back, William Gallas, has confirmed his participation in the Unity match 2016.


2016 Peace Ambassador, Stephen Appiah, will lead a World XI side to play Kotoko and the Black Stars in Kumasi and Accra respectively. He will be leading a crusade to promote peace in his homeland, Ghana, as the nation goes to the polls later this year.

Gallas, who stirred controversy with a forced move to Arsenal, has now joined Manchester United legends, Dwight Yorke and Louis Saha to confirm their participation in the Unity Match 2016.
