1 Peter 2:9-12
“9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”
This world as we know is a “fallen world” after Adam ignorantly gave his authority as a steward of God’s creation in a quest to be equal or higher than God to the accuser of the brethren, better known as Satan, the Devil or the Enemy. Thankfully, we have the hope and contentment that God will soon restore this world to what He initially created to be in the fullness of His own time. This does not mean we cannot enjoy the sweet grace and mercies of God in this present era or have to wait for the restoration of the indomitable world to come. We must note that; it’s our foremost task as Christians to resemble our God in all we do; in our thought life, actions and words. We reflect the manifest presence of God Himself and not forget we are Ambassadors of Christ.
We are out rightly not of this world. Our authentic Kingdom is Heaven and our Ruler and Sender is God Himself. Every embassy on this earth protects its ambassadors to other countries so how much more we who belong to the Kingdom of God. God is Love and Love is Greatest of all even in comparison to Faith and Hope. We must let love rule our thought life, actions, words and lifestyle so that others may see us and want to be just like us without even having to preach to them but they’ll feel convicted in their own spirit man to change.
I once believed that since God does not focus on our outward appearance he looks at only our heart. Even when I was growing as a Christian, I wore a short and very tight skirt to town. People were watching me, some stared at me as if I was something to eat. Later in the day, a guy driving stopped to talk to me. He had pierced both ears, obviously rich and quite young. I did some research later about him only to find out that, he smoked on a daily basis especially shisha, did a lot of clubbing and sleeping around with girls. It was my intention to make him know God intimately. Another philosophy of mine is;
“If you go to good places, you meet good people and if you go to bad place, you meet bad people.”
I remember one evening, I was about to board a car to another church on campus (University of Ghana, Legon) for a prayer meeting I boarded to other people whom I didn’t know and they took my number and invited me to their bible study which I so much enjoy and grateful to God to order my steps that night and even till now. – Esenam Abra Drah.
