Appiah Urges Fans to Patronize Vodafone Unity Games

Election 2016 Peace Ambassador and former captain ofBlack Stars Stephen Appiah has called on football fans to patronize the 2016 Vodafone Unity Games, slated for June this year.

The games, which form part of Appiah’s plans to promote Peace and Unity before, during and after the 2016 General election would be played on June 8 in Kumasi and on June 11 in Accra.

The first match of the Vodafone Unity Games will see the former Ghana inspirational Skipper lead a team of former and current international football stars against Ghana Premier League Giants Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium before squaring off against the Black Stars in Accra three days later.

Speaking at a press Soiree organised by Primeval Media-the Organizers of the Vodafone Unity Games, the former Ghanaian International appealed to football fans to not to be left out of the historic event.

“Some colleagues and friends from Africa and the other continents will join me to use football which is obviously the passion for this nation to clamor for peace”, he said.

“I wish to invite you all to the two games that will be played in June at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium against Kotoko and Accra Sports Stadium against the Black Stars”, Appiah added.

The election 2016 Peace Ambassador also thanked the headline sponsor of the games for partnering in promoting peace.

Football icons such as William Gallas, Dwight Yorke, Patrick Kluyvert, Jay Jay Okocha, Nwako Kanu, Sol Campbell, George Boateng, Jermain Defoe, Simao and Emile Heskey will all play in the 2016 Vodafone Unity Games.

Pray For Peaceful Elections - Rt. Rev. Dr Setorwu Ofori

Rt. Rev. Dr Setorwu Ofori, Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church, has urged Ghanaians to pray fervently for the nation to enjoy peace before, during and after the 2016 elections.

He said “if we want the country to change and to continue to live in peace, there is the need for every Ghanaian to pray for the nation intensively and also bring the Word of God to everyone.”

The moderator was preaching on the theme: “The Bible, guide to Godly leadership” to mark the 2016 Bible Week Celebration nationwide at the Fountain of Glory Assemblies of God Church, West Legon, in Accra recently.

He said Christians must not relent in their efforts to use the Bible since it transformed the individual’s life and that of others.

Rev. Dr Ofori said though written on paper like other books, the Bible could not be compared to any book because it was inspired by God and was the most powerful transformational tool for Christians.

The Bible was inspired by God; God used human minds, human hands to say what He wants us to know. The Word of God (the Bible) carries power; it carries authority; it moves the lives of people and brings transformation,” he stressed.

The moderator said Jesus had set the example for true leadership and teamwork which the country could draw from His example to bring about Godly leadership as Christians demonstrated that the Word of God was the foundation.

Rev. Dr Emmanuel Anim, member of the National Council of the Bible Society of Ghana, said the theme for the Bible Week celebration was relevant as the country prepared for the 2016 elections to choose leaders to lead her for the next four years.

“The nation can never experience true transformation until we begin to realize that it is God who calls leaders and ask them to be selfless examples to others,” he said.
