Claude Le Roy Sentenced To Prison

Togo manager Claude Le Roy has been sentenced to two years in prison for his involvement in fraud.

 

According to Cameroon Intelligence Report, the African managerial legend who has previously coached Cameroon, Senegal, DR Congo and Congo has been sentenced to two years.

 

The sentence is in relation to fraud that occurred in certain transfers whilst managing Racing Strasbourg, who he led for five years from 1998 to 2003.

 

The 68-year-old has claimed he was uninformed of any wrong doing in the transfers in question.

Claude Le Roy Appointed Togo Coach

Experienced French coach Claude Le Roy has been appointed new coach of Togo.

Le Roy, who has also coached Congo, Senegal, DR Congo and Cameroon and has recently been linked with the vacant Nigeria post, has signed a three-year contract with the Togo Football Federation and replaces the Belgian Tom Saintfiet.

He will be assisted by his usual sidekick Sebastien Minier.

He has been in Lome for the past two days and met with the country’s President Faure Gnassingbe.

Togo are third in their AFCON qualifying group with seven points from four matches.

In June, they are away to group leaders Liberia.

Toure Sets A New Record

Ivorian Center back legend, Kolo Toure last week became the first African to reach 300 Barclays Premier League starts.

The Liverpool defender was involved from the onset in a 3-0 win over Pelligrini’s side which included his brother Yaya Toure  for Manchester City.

Toure, 34, made over 300 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal before moving to the Manchester City where he played over a 100 times – and eventually to Liverpool.

The ever strong centre-back made his 50th Premier League appearance for liverpool, and an overall of 350th appearance in all competitions after coming off the bench in a 2-1 away win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The African nations cup winner, has also made  over a 100 times for his country, will now be looking to make more appearances in all competitions for English clubs.

Issa Hayatou Congratulates Gianni Infantino

The President of Confederation of African Football (CAF) Issa  Hayatou has congratulated current FIFA President Gianni Infantino after his victory at the  FIFA Extraordinary Congress last friday.

 

In a letter dated Saturday, 27 February 2016, CAF President Issa Hayatou on behalf of the CAF Executive Committee and the African football family has congratulated Gianni Infantino on his election as FIFA President.

 

He said “We are confident that you will restore FIFA’s image backed by your career, skills, passion for football, understanding of the issues related to the future of football, and your desire to develop our sport around the four corners of the world”.

Hayatou who was the  interim president of FIFA in the months preceding the February 26 elections also assured Infantino of the continued support of CAF, commitment to strengthening the excellent relationship between CAF and FIFA.
