Breaking News : Liverpool Complete Signing of Augsburg Defender

Liverpool have completed the signing of Estonia defender Ragnar Klavan from Augsburg.

The 30-year-old has signed a three-year contract in a deal worth an initial £4.2million plus add-ons.

Klavan is vastly experienced with over 100 caps for his country and four seasons in the Bundesliga and will provide cover at centre-back as Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez both currently have injuries and Tiago Ilori, who could have been a fall-back option, is heading to the Olympics with Portugal.

The defender is manager Jurgen Klopp’s fifth signing, following the arrival of goalkeeper Loris Karius, defender Joel Matip, midfielder Marko Grujic and forward Sadio Mane.

“I’m really honoured to be part of this amazing club, this amazing team,” Klavan told liverpoolfc.com.

“It’s hard to put it into words because it’s been a dream of mine for 22 years to come to the Premier League and be a part of this amazing club, Liverpool.

Liverpool Close In On Barcelona"s Defender

According to Le Parisien via The Sun, Liverpool are keen on buying Barcelona’s Jeremy Mathieu.

 

The French publication claim a number of clubs are monitoring the Barcelona defender’s situation at the Nou Camp this summer, and Liverpool are among them as the Reds make contact over his availability.

 

The French international defender joined Barca from fellow La Liga side Valencia in the summer of 2014, yet for the past two seasons he has largely been on the peripherals of the first team.

 

With competition for places high and the Catalans adding further options at the back with the addition of Samuel Umtiti, questions have been asked of Mathieu’s future.

Liverpool are in the market for a new defender having sold Martin Skrtel to Fenerbahce and releasing the experienced Kolo Toure following the expiration of his contract on Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp’s side don’t have much strength in numbers at the back, and it said that the Reds boss is keen on bringing in a player with Champions League experience ahead of the new season.
