Nii Adjei Backs Kotoko To Beat Hearts

Former skipper of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Daniel Nii Adjei has thrown his weight behind his former employers to beat high-flying Accra Hearts of Oak in their Ghana Premier League (GPL) Match-Day 10 Super Clash in Accra.

The Porcupines Warriors are not on a good run this year, but the TP Mazembe midfielder has backed them to amass all three points on Monday.

“I know Kotoko is not performing well in the league but on Monday 2 May, they will win the match against Hearts because I believe the boys will lift up the porcupine spirit and fight for victory. Good luck to you guys!” He wrote on his Facebook page.

Daniel Nii Adjei captained Kotoko to win the GPL in 2012-13 season before joining TP Mazembe.

DR Congo based Ghanaian international Solomon Asante has revealed been left devastated by the surprised elimination of TP Mazembe from the money zone of the 2016 CAF Champions League.

The quick footed TP Mazembe talented forward failed to inspire the reigning CAF champions league holders into the group stages and has openly expressed his devastation at the setback.

The former Berekum Chelsea star forward missed out at the final hurdle for a place in the last eight after a dramatic 1-1 home draw with Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco to go out on a 3-1 aggregate.

The reigning Champions failed to overturn a 2-0 deficit in Morocco at the scary Lubumbashi Stadium in DR congo.

Solomon Asante, who remains one of the finest in the Mazembe set up, sumptuously set up Salif Coulibaly to set the stadium alive before leaving the pitch after 77 minutes.

The disappointed forward however revealed after the game, “It was one of the saddest days in my entire football career so far. We had all the chances but luck wasn’t on our side as defending champions and we missed out on the last eight place’s, Solomon Asante said after the game.”

Compatriot Yaw Frimpong and Daniel Nii Adjei both featured 90 minutes in the eventual 1-1 thriller.

Mazembe On Brick of Champions League Exit

Holders TP Mazembe of DR Congo must overcome a 2-0 deficit against visiting Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the African Champions League.

The two clubs meet on Wednesday in the second leg of their tie with the winners progressing to the group stages of the tournament.

The losers get a second chance as they enter the draw for the play-offs in the second-tier Confederation Cup.

For the first time continental club matches are being played in midweek.

Mazembe’s French coach Hubert Velud described the club’s players as “incredible professionals” when he was hired this year.

The clubs also met in a last 16 tie five years ago with Wydad winning 1-0 at home and losing 2-0 away only to be reinstated when Mazembe were disqualified for using an ineligible player.

Wydad went on to finish runners-up, the second best showing by the club from the Moroccan commercial capital after winning the 1992 competition.

Mazembe have been much more successful, winning the premier African club competition in 1967, 1968, 2009, 2010 and last year.

But their African campaign this year has been less convincing.

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko combative midfielder, Daniel Nii Adjei feels vindicated with the current wranglings in the side.

Kotoko has started the side poorly and this poor ran has seen coach David Duncan lose his job as head coach of the side but the ex-Hearts coach has refused to accept the management’s decision to ‘step aside’.

Adjei who recently hit hard at his old side’s poor and childlike administrative running of the record Ghana premier league champions and this comment saw some management members yell insult at the TP Mazembe midfielder.

But Adjei who scored for the DR Congo side in last years FIFA World club championship in Japan has taken to his Facebook wall to call on the management to down their head in shame for the shameful happenings within and around the club.

He wrote, “When you say something about the team Kotoko some people will always attack you. I remember I said they are managing the team like a ‘small team’ and someone from the management insulted me but now look at how shameful they are doing to the team.”

TP Mazembe versatile midfielder, Daniel Nii Adjei reveals what has made the DR Congo based club such a success in both the domestic league and continental competitions.

 

The club has won the CAF champions league twice in the last five years and their domination in the Congolese league is there for all to see since the club was purchased by Moise Katumbi.

 

The ex-Kotoko midfielder who signed for Tout Puissant Mazembe and is a member of the quintet of Ghanaian internationals plying their trade in the DRC and in an interview with Boss Fm, Kumasi, the 27-year old admitted the club has a policy of revealing to new signings what the targets, dreams and aspirations of the club are.

 

He said,  “the clubs focus is on the champions league and not the domestic league. TP Mazembe psyche the players they sign by informing them the club’s focus is on the CAF champions league trophy and not the domestic cup.

 

“The club’s president and officials see the domestic league trophy as a must and a bonus and can’t afford to miss out when the ultimate (CAF champions league)  is available for grabs, ” he added.

 

Nii Adjei scored a brace to win TP Mazembe’s third CAF super cup trophy on Saturday when they defeated Tunisian side,  Etoile Sportive du Sahel.

Former Kotoko players, Abeiku Ainooson and Daniel Nii Adjei has sent heart warming messages to Asante Kotoko as they prepare to wrestle the league title they lost last season to Ashanti Gold.

The duo who are currently in Al Hilal and TP Mazembe respectively won the league title with thePorcupine Warriors  before moving on for new challenge abroad.

And with their former team putting final touches to enter into the new season, the duo has taken to social media platform, Facebook to wish the team a successful year.

Daniel Nii Adjei, the skipper of the team that won the 2011 / 2012 league title prayed for God’s blessings in their journey which begins on Saturday.
