WAFA Youngster Goes Under Knife

West African Football Academy (WAFA) prodigy, Majeed Ashimeru has undergone a successful surgery in Belgium.

The 20-year-old suffered a knee injury prior to the start of the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season, and he’s since been on the sidelines.

Ashimeru who was phenomenal for the Sogakope-based club has been missed for the better part on the ongoing campaign, and if the doctors stipulated time for his full recovery is anything to go by, he will be out for the rest of the season.

According to the official Twitter account of WAFA, Ashimeru is expected to be in the treatment room for the next six weeks after a successful the surgery on Friday.

Midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has undergone surgery in Belgium to correct a knee injury.

The talented youngster went under the knife yesterday (Friday) at the AZ Monica Hospital in the city of Antwerp.

Dr.Geert Declercq, famous specialist and also doctor of the Belgium national team, performed the operation.

Ashimeru will spend close to six weeks on the sidelines to recovery fully fit.

 Management wishes him a speedy recovery.

Skipper of Ebusua Dwarfs, Stephen Aidoo says the team is disappointed to start the new Ghana Premier league season with a defeat at home.

 

Dreams Football Club inflicted a 1-0 painful defeat on the ‘Abontobonto’ boys at the Robert Mensah stadium on Match Week One of the Ghana Premier league 2015/16 season.

And the skipper of the team, Stephen Aidoo says the result is a disappointing one, but he is optimistic they will respond to the set back against New Edubiase on Sunday in Obuasi.

“The premier league is a very difficult competition to play in and we have to wake up after this loss,” Stephen Aidoo said in a post match press conference.

“We knew the game was going to be tough, but we were optimistic of winning, but unfortunately, we couldn’t and that’s very disappointing.” He said.

Ebusua Dwarfs has an outstanding record when it comes to home matches on Match Week One, losing only one match since 1999. With the jinx broken, fans expectations may be as low as the belly of a snake but Stephen Aidoo is not perturbed.

“It is the mindset of the people… football is a game on its own. It doesn’t follow any logic; anything is possible.

“We can go to Obuasi and beat New Edubiase. First matches are always jittery and we expect to grow confident sooner and win matches.” He noted.

Kotoko En Route To Sogakope

Kumasi Asante Kotoko are on their way to Sogakope for tomorrow’s premier league fixture against West Africa Football Academy. 

The Porcupine Warriors left Accra earlier today to the Volta region for the domestic top flight competition scheduled for this weekend.

Asante had their final training session at the Tema sports on Thursday evening.

Head coach David Duncan trained 20 players yesterday, but he has named 19 players for the fixture.

Asante Kotoko are touted as champions elect and they will look to maintain that status and probably score their first ever league goal at the Sogakope Park.

Former Kotoko players, Abeiku Ainooson and Daniel Nii Adjei has sent heart warming messages to Asante Kotoko as they prepare to wrestle the league title they lost last season to Ashanti Gold.

The duo who are currently in Al Hilal and TP Mazembe respectively won the league title with thePorcupine Warriors  before moving on for new challenge abroad.

And with their former team putting final touches to enter into the new season, the duo has taken to social media platform, Facebook to wish the team a successful year.

Daniel Nii Adjei, the skipper of the team that won the 2011 / 2012 league title prayed for God’s blessings in their journey which begins on Saturday.

Kotoko will play West Africa Football Academy tomorrow (February 20) atthe Sogakope sports stadium.

GFA Charge AshGold

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sanctioned the assistant coach of Ashanti Gold Sporting Club, Yakubu Mambo, and the club for their unsportsmanlike conduct that brought this year’s Super Cup into disrepute.

The two breached some sections of article 35 of the GFA’s General Regulations when they boycotted the award ceremony after the match played on January 31.

A charge sheet signed by the GFA prosecutor, Raphael Tottimeh, and made available to the Daily Graphic, said assistant coach Mambo was charged with inciting, encouraging and directing the players and technical team of the club against the directive of the Match Commissioner in charge of the Super Cup to go for their medals from the dignitaries.

The GFA further charged the Premier League champions with failing and refusing to make available the club’s coach and a player for the post- match press conference.

The statement described the behaviour of the assistant coach and the conduct of the club as unsporting that put the game into disrepute, saying it was in violation of the GFA regulations.

“Yakubu Mambo and the assistant coach of Ashanti Gold Sporting Club are hereby charged with breaching Articles 35(1)(b) and 35 (7) (d) of the GFA general regulation,” the charge stated, adding that Ashanti Gold had also been charged with breaching Articles (35)(2) and 35(7)(d) of the GFA’s general regulation in respect of the Super Cup match.

The statement, however, cautioned that “should the prosecution be successful of Mr Mambo’s breach of the GFA Statutes, regulations and the code of conduct, the prosecution shall pray the Disciplinary Committee for the imposition of the maximum sanctions.”

It also noted that the prosecution intended to rely on the evidence in the reports of the referee, the Match Commissioner as well as witnesses and the video of the match, pointing out that the defendants had by close of Friday to respond to the charges.

Duncan Name 18-Man Squad For League Opener

Head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, David Duncan has named a 18-man squad for the clubs league opener against West Africa Football Academy.

The former Hearts of Oak boast of a team with enough depth, and he has named the squad is made up of a mixture of old and new players.

Promising striker Dauda Mohammed who recently trained with the team after suffering an ankle injury in the team’s pre-season win over Bechem United, has been dropped.

Theophilus Nyame, Tuffour Frimpongc Ernest Sowah, Bennett Ofori and Halipha Sodogo who were all signed in the off season has made the squad for the trip.

The team arrived in Accra about 11:30 GMT today and will train at the Tema sports stadium later in the day.

They will hold a training session tomorrow morning before  travelling to Sogakope in the evening for the fixture which will be on Saturday at the Sogakope Park.
