Video Replay Trials Set For Next Month

Football’s world governing body, FIFA has revealed that it has invited leagues and federations interested in running video replay trials to inspect the technology next month.

The May 18-20 workshop in Amsterdam is a key step in FIFA’s ambitious two-year target to use video review at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Dutch federation was chosen because it has run experiments since 2013 with video assistants helping referees although their trial have not been live in a competitive match.

Football’s rule-making panel, the International Football Association’s Board (IFAB), will confirm later in May which competitions will take part in trials.

FIFA says those that want to run and fund experiments “will be allowed to do so.”

IFAB also has disclosed that video replay is restricted to decisions on goals being scored, penalties being awarded, players being sent off and cases of mistaken identity.

FIFA President Storms Ethiopia For Goal Project

Newly elected FIFA President Gianni Infantino has made a familiarization tour to Ethiopia on the request of the Ethiopian Football Federation on Wednesday.

The trip was the first on the African continent as a sitting President of the highest football governing body in the world since his election in the February polls.

The Swiss replaced compatriot Josep Sepp Blatter in the February General Election and is expected to make massive changes across the embattled organization ahead of the 2018 Mundial.

Infantino held off competition from Sheik Saliman for the highest seat in world football administration after the expulsion of long serving Josep Sep Blatter late last year.

The newly installed FIFA Boss is expected to supervise the ongoing FIFA Goal Project and fastest developing Ethiopian Youth Academy.

The EFF invited the 45 year to the East African country as part of its rebranding on the domestic scene.

The FIFA Goal project is a worldwide initiative by the governing body that is aimed at making football accessible to the poor across the globe.
