Baseball: Tema Braves Win BVG Unity Games

The Baseball Volunteers Ghana, BVG, Unity Games came off over the weekend at the Tema Community Seven School Park.

The one day invitational baseball competition saw the Tema Braves emerging as the winners after beating the University of Ghana in the grand finale.

Braves dominated the event, beating the Royals 10-0 in their opening games before edging out the Marlins 4-3 in a keenly contested semi final clash.

The University of Ghana, the youngest team in the competition started the tournament slowly, recording an 11-1 defeat the Marlins.

They went on to upset the much fancied brotherhood 11-9 in the semi final before losing the eventual winners Braves in the final.

The one day tournament, attracted lovers of baseball from all over Accra as well as some national team players and coaches

Baseball: BVG calls For Corporate Support

The Director of Baseball Volunteers Ghana (BVG), Mr. Hugo Banzini is appealing to the corporate world to come and support the sport in Ghana.

According to him, baseball is growing progressively but the growth won’t be rapid without the support of Corporate Ghana.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with SportsCrusader.com after the BVG one day international tournament in Tema on Saturday, Mr. Banzini noted that his outfit is doing well to promote baseball in the country, but was quick to admit that their effort is not enough.

He says, corporate Ghana need to come in and support the development of the sports in oder for it to grow in stature.

Mr. Banzini was however quick to admit that, the support would not come if the sport is not seen organising active competitions.

He therefore called on the government and the baseball Federation to organize more events in order to attract sponsors.

Ghana are currently ranked 3rd in Africa behind South Africa and Nigeria and with little push, baseball can soon become a household sport in the country

Ghana Baseball and Softball Association (GHABSA)  has indicated to the media  a notion of scam that some members of the public  who are pretending to love the sports and are taking advantage for their own selfish gains.

 

For the record it is only the Ghana Baseball and Softball Association that has the power and  mandate to promote , popularize and develop the sports of Baseball and Softball throughout Ghana.

 

In a press statement by the Vice President of  (GHABSA),Edward N. N Quaynor said “On this occassion we want to inform the media and all that any Baseball and Softball event anywhere in the country that is not sanctioned by the Ghana Baseball and Softball Association is and should be seen as an illegal and unlawful one”.

 

Mr. Quaynor also added as and when the association identifies any organization , individual or group with the right qualifications to set up any we will make it known and that there is no Baseball or Softball Academy anywhere here in Ghana.

 

“Much as we need the media to help us in our development and promotion of the sports we want them to also help us do the right things at all times”, he concluded.
