Meet The MVP of The Ghana Rugby Club Championship - Hamza Mohammed

The just ended Ghana Rugby Club Championships has seen numerous talents in all the teams that participated,but undoubtedly the most valuable player of the tournament was Hamza Mohammed of the Kumasi Conquerors.

 

The 20 year-old, started playing rugby at the age of 10 when he was a student of Queens model school in Kotobabi. He told sportscrusader.com in interview that “I started watching the Western Province Rugby Team In South Africa,and i really admired the way they played, i suddenly develop interest in the sport”.

 

The Center and the Full back player was a sensation to watch during the championship  being the top scorer from penalty spots and conversions, he showed why he is the best in the rugby championships especially in the finals where he scored majority of the points for Conquerors.

 

In an interview with sportscrusader.com Hamza said “InshAllah I see a bright future for me. Looking at building and breaking through to international clubs and also being a strong part of the Ghana National Rugby Team, future looks bright InshAllah”

 

Hamza who is also the vice captain of the national team is also pleaded with the authorities in government to support the sport because there are numerous talents that can grow the sport and win medals for the country.

 

Going into the future Hamza said he dream of playing for Chiefs Rugby Club in New Zealand, he will also like to exhibit his talent in the game even though he admitted how is still learning the various techniques and skill in the game of rugby.

General Overview of The Ghana Rugby Club Championship Finals

Conquerors who are unbeaten in Ghana Rugby Club Championship (GRCC) emerged winners of the just ended 2015/16 GRCC after beating Dansoman Hurricanes RFC at the final on Saturday 20th of February 2016 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

 

Hurricanes saw their team conquered by the Conquerors in a margin of 28 – 3 after the final whistle.The defending champions, Cosmos Buffaloes RFC, came third after defeating Idas Sports RFC by 48-3 in the 3rd place match played earlier in the day.

 

In an interview with the media Mr. Simba Mangena, coach of Conquerors SC said ” i really commend my players for showing their enthusiasm on the field of play and how they demonstrated to make the dream of winning the trophy a reality.

 

He expressed gratitude to his players for their cooperation and the high enthusiastic spirit they demonstrated to make the dream of winning the trophy a reality.

 

The event Organizer Mr. Noi also mentioned that the next season of the GRCC will commence in October but there will be a seven’s tournament to prepare clubs before the league.

 

Winners of the championship, Conquerors, received gold medals, a trophy and a cash prize of GHc 4,000. Dansoman Hurricanes, who placed second,  received silver medals, a trophy and a cash prize of GHc 3,000.

The third positioned team, Cosmos Buffaloes RFC, was also presented with bronze medals, a trophy and a cash prize of GHc 2,000.

Ghana To Participate In Rugby Sevens Series Tournament

Ghana will participate in the Seven’s Africa West tournament which will be taking place on 28th of May 2016 in Lome, Togo.

 

The tournament will help national Rugby team improve it rankings and be considered as force to be reckon with in the West African sub region.

 

Speaking to the press at the Ghana Rugby Club Championship (GRCC) Mr. Steve Noi, Tournament Commissioner, disclosed that the technical team is putting up a squad from which a team will be formed to represent Ghana coming May at the Seven’s Africa North tournament in Togo.

 

Mr. Noi also mentioned that the next season of the GRCC will commence in October but there will be a seven’s tournament to prepare clubs before the league.

 

“I think the season normally starts in October so between this time and October we will be having the seven’s tournament in a few weeks time to prepare players for the next season”, he uttered.
