GN Bank DOL Week 7 Preview (Zone 3): Lions Look To Maintain Fine Run As Oly Take On Planners

GN Bank DOL Zone Three Leaders, Kpando Heart of Lions will look to continue their fine form when the travel to Oda to play Kotoku Royals in on Wednesday.

The former Ghanaian top flight campaigners went three points clear at the top of the Zonal log after defeating Okwawu United last Sunday at the Kpando Park.

Meamwhile at the Tema Sports Stadium, another former Premier League side, Amidaus Professionals will take on newly promoted Roberto FC who are the only unbeaten side in the Zone so far.

The Sogakope based club despite not losing a single in their debut campaign, are fourth on the zonal log with two wins and four draws.

Where as Amidaus have recorded just a single win and a draw all season.

Elsewhere in the Zone, Okwawu United will take on newly promoted Vision FC at te Nkwakwa Park with Great Olympics coming up against another newly promoted side Okyeman Planners.

Sporting Miren, at the ST. Aquinas School Park will hot Tema Youth who are looking to mount pressure on the leading park.

Mighty Jets, Danbort and Istanbul complete the week in Zone Three with games against King Solomon, Pure Joy and Nania FC respectively.

Heart of Lions Off To a Winning Start in DOL

Former premier division campaigners, Heart of Lions made a winning start to life in the GN Bank Division One League (DOL) after beating Danbort FC 1-0 at the Nungua Town Park on Saturday in a Zone Three fixture.

Benjamin Adjetey scored the lone goal for the Kpando based side in the 36th minute to hand the visitors all three points as they seek to make a quick return to the Ghanaian top-flight after their relegation at the end of last season.

The game was a closely fought affair, but, Lions made their experience count on the day to record this victory on the opening day of the GN Bank sponsored national league.

The first half was a very tight affair with very few chances being created, and, a mix-up in the heart of the Danbort defence, allowed Adjetey to pounce on a loose ball to plant it beyond Christopher Okraku in post for the home side.

After the ball, Lions brought their experience to bear as Coach Ben Fokuo’s side imposed their authority on the game to close it to and end.

The best opportunity for the home side fell to Jonathan Kofie, but when faced with Assidinu Gbani in post for Lions, he shot over the bar to the displeasure of the home fans who went home disappointed with the result.

Lions will look to build on this victory in their quest to make a return to the top-flight in a zone that clearly the toughest among the lot.

Vision FC Target Eight Consecutive League Wins

Newly promoted Division One League side, Vision Football Club has set a target of winning their first eight matches of the season.

The Madina-based club qualified to the Division One League after sterling performance in the second tier, and has been tipped by football connoisseurs to emulate Dreams Football Club who qualified to the premier league in their debut season.

They have played high profile friendly matches as part of their preparations for the season, including one against high flying Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Tema sports stadium and lost by only a goal.

And the club’s administrative manager, Kwaku Obiri has revealed that the target of the team is to win their first eight matches.

“Our target for the season is to win our first eight games and then, we take it from there,” he told sportscrusader.com in an interview.

“The players are very young and setting the target of qualifying to the premier league will be farfetched, but like I said earlier, our target is to win our first match and we will take it from there.” He said.

Vision FC will open the Division one league campaign against Roberto Pure Joy when the season begins on February 20.

I Don"t Begrudge My Critics - Abra-Appiah

Premier League Board former Chairman, Welbeck Abra-Appiah says he harbour no hard feelings against his critics during his stay as the head of the PLB.

Abra-Appiah who took office in 2005 was censured for the decline of local football.

Prior to him taking over, local clubs were a constant threat to other elite teams in CAF’s inter-club football competitions –Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Players from the local scene regularly featured for the senior national team, the Black Stars, and spectators thronged to match venues. But all that declined in his 10 years at the helm of affairs.

He constantly censured for the poor state of of Ghana local football with some sections of the media claiming he used the position for his own aggrandizement.

But Abra-Appiah says those who constantly criticised his work only kept him on his toes to work harder.

“I want to thank everybody in the media. I had very good friends among the media,” the former financier of Okwahu United told TV3 Ghana.

Mr. Abra-Appiah had special message for Accra-based radio station Asempa FM ‘Fire-for-fire’ programme host, Patrick Osei Agyemang popularly known in the media circle as Country man Songo, and Enoch Akwasi Worlanyo Wallace for keeping him on his toes.

“I want to ask for a special message for my good friends Songo and Wallace. I don’t begrudge them in any way. They put me on my toes.

He added: “They helped me to look at things the way they should be and I’m grateful for that.”
