Dunkwa Rescind DOL Withdrawal

Division One League side Dunkwa United has rescinded their decision to withdraw from the Division One League competition this season.

Chief Executive Officer of the club Nana Amankwah Kwkye took to social media platform Facebook to announce the his club will not take part in the league due to poor administration of football in the country.

“It is sad the way club owners have been taken for granted. Division one clubs did not get cedi from GN Bank sponsorship, per the explanation given the clubs, the sponsorship money has gone into paying some of officiating fees, meaning it could not cater for all the officiating fee, clubs are told to pay extra Ghc8000 + to complete this officiating fee, why? I am now convinced that club owners are not serious people.

“I am a club owner, I will not invest in a place where I will not get my returns, football is no more an entertainment but rather a business venture.

“My club will not play in the league come 20th this month, if all club owners shall be taken for granted, I will not be taken for granted, I will channel my investment elsewhere. Dunkwa United will not play in the league….” Nana Amankwah wrote on his Facebook wall.

But after a meeting with Chairman of the Division One League Board, Owoahene Acheampong, Nana Amankwah has rescinded his decision.

“My respect for Owoahene Acheampong the chairman of DOLB has appreciated, a fine gentleman. His patience and explanation has gone down very well with me. Its takes a good leader like him to understand what I am fighting for.

“I hope all the grievance will be address in time, to enable all the clubs have a good league. It is better late than never. 

“I stand for my club and my investment, I hope other clubs owners will also have the courage and balls to stand for what they believe in. With the explanation and assurance given I can confidently say that DUNKWA UNITED FC is in the league.

“God bless Ghana football………..”

All Premier League Centres Are Ready For New Season

The manager for the Club Licensing Board (CLB), Emmanuel Dassebre has revealed all the 15-premier league centres are ready and in better condition for the 2015/16 Ghana premier league season.

 

Ghanaian clubs have been criticised for poor and bad nature of some pitches at the various league centres that seems to jeopardize the beautiful game and offers fans little entertainment during matches.

This season the CLB of the Ghana Football Association along with the FIFA club licensing recommendations want to ensure clubs meet at least a minimum requirement for a venue to be worthy of hosting premier league games.

Emmanuel Dasebre has expressed delight at the efforts the various clubs have put in to meet the necessary requirement and has guaranteed all the 15-clubs with the exception of New Edubiase who share the Len Clay grounds with Ashgold and Techiman City who are left with some few recommendations besides thses all the stadia are ready.

 

He said, “the 16-premier league clubs have all submitted their home venues and we have inspected, verified and approved them to be of matching standard to host premier league matches.”

 

The 2015/16 Ghana premier league season starts on Feb 20.

The Premier League Board on behalf of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to express its profound support to Premier League Champions, Ashantigold in their African campaign this season.

As our champion club kick off their CAF Champions League campaign against M.O. Bejaia of Algeria this weekend, the GFA is of the belief that Ashantigold will scale this intial hurdle and go very far in the competition.

Th current Ashantigold team has history to look up to for motivation ib the competition, as the club is a pioneer of the CAF Champions League and the first Ghanaian club to play in a grande finale of the competition in 1997.

Wa African United Yet To Take GFA To Court.

Embattled Wa African United is yet to drag the Ghana Football Association to court for fixing a date for the commencement of the new Ghana Premier league season without revealing the outcome of alleged match-fixing case against Techiman City.

The Ghana Football Association and the Premier League Board has fixed February 20 for the start of the season whilst the adjudicating body of Ghana FA deliberate on a case before them.

And Wa African United who were demoted to the third tier of Ghana football after they were found guilty by the Disciplinary Committee for alleged match-fixing, has asked the FA to reveal the outcome of the ruling or face them in court.

Head of legal team of Wa African United, Lawyer Obiri Boahen described the FA’s decision to start the league whilst a legal case before them is not cleared as ‘absurd’ and has threatened to place an injunction on the league should the FA not give him a copy of the Ethics Committee ruling on Techiman City.

“Techiman City were granted stay of execution until the end of the season by law having accepted to appear before the GFA Ethics Committee, whatever decision the Appeals Committee delivered is now moot — it is dead,” Lawyer Obiri Boahen told sportscrusader.com

He explaind that “If Techiman City had not agreed to appear before the GFA Ethics Committee that would have been different, but Techiman City agreed to appear the FA Ethics Committee and they did, so what is the outcome?

“Why is the GFA preventing us from knowing the outcome? Even if Wa African United, B.A United, RTU and Berekum Arsenal has not filed any case against the FA, won’t common sense tell the GFA to release the outcome of the Ethics Committee meeting with Techiman City to the public before starting the league?

“Isn’t it absurd for anybody to say that Techiman City should play in the league, whilst a case before the reconstituted Ethics Committee is being deliberated?

“For how long will it take the Committee to come with their ruling? Isn’t the league starting in February? Somebody in his right frame of mind won’t tell you that let’s start the league whilst Wa, Techiman, Arsenal, and RTU sort it out. Is that not absurdity of the highest order because for how long will it take to determine the fate of that protest?

“Absurdity also in the sense that after first three matches the Committee report comes out that Techiman City should be demoted, what will be the outcome of the matches played by Techiman City. Are you not inconveniencing those clubs?” He quizzed.

Lawyer Obiri Boahen also revealed that has not gone to court yet, but he won’t hesitate to seek an injunction on the league should the FA fail to provide him a copy of the Ethics Committee ruling on Techiman City by Monday February 1.

“We have not gone to court yet, but if the Ghana Football Association continues with their intracecent behaviour or posture, we will have no option than to go to court.” He said.

PLB Boss Blame Clubs Reps For League Fixtures Leakage.

Ghana Premier League Board Chairman Ashford Tetteh has blamed representatives of the premier league clubs for the leakage of the 2016 Ghana Premier League Fixtures.

On Wednesday fixtures of Ghana Premier League went viral on social media and many media portals, and Ashford Oku, who replaced Welbeck Abra-Appiah as head of the PLB says he is not aware.

He said fixtures of the new season were paired and released to the representatives of the sixteen premier league clubs, but they were told to withhold the fixtures until approved they are approved by the Executive Committee of the Ghana FA.

Unfortunately, the fixtures has been leaked before the Executive Committee could approve them. Ashford Tetteh Oku described the failure of the clubs reps to hold onto fixtures secretly ‘unfortunate’.

“I’m not aware of the leakage of the fixtures but if indeed it has been leaked, then it is very very unfortunate”, He told Atinka FM.

“We had finished generating the fixtures and were only waiting for approval from the Executive Committee members so when such things happen, you cannot blame anyone than the club representative.” He added.

The leaked fixtures has mouthwatering encounters on the opening day of the season defending champions AshGold travel to Tarkwa to play Medeama SC who won the FA Cup.

Asante Kotoko will play West Africa Football Academy whilst Hearts of Oak will entertain New Edubiase at the Accra Sports Stadium.

PLB Boss Blame Clubs Reps For League Fixtures Leakage.

"PLB To Release Fixtures Soon"-Ashford Tettey-Oku

The chairman of the Premier League Board (PLB), Ashford Tettey-Oku, says they are awaiting the green light from the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to officially release the fixtures for upcoming league for the 2015/16 season scheduled to commence on February 20.

The ExCo’s endorsement, according to Mr Tettey-Oku, was in compliance with Article 68 of the GFA statute, which requires the ExCo members to scrutinise the fixtures once generated before giving their endorsement for subsequent release.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic on Tuesday, the newly-appointed PLB boss said they had already generated the fixtures with their computer software but the PLB would ensure they were released as soon as the ExCo members were satisfied with them.

He said the Club Licensing Board was expected to commence inspection of the various venues for the 16 Premier League clubs and the 48 Division One League (DOL) clubs, but warned that they would not hesitate to apply the rules on clubs that fell short of the requirement.

“We will notify all clubs by Friday about the intended inspection which comes off on Monday and we expect that they would meet the basic requirements to avoid any sanctions,” he said

The club venues are expected to meet certain basic requirements such as the presence of inner perimeter, changing rooms, adequate washroom facilities, among other basic things needed to be present in a stadium.

Until The PLB Is Decoupled From Ghana FA, Local Football Predicament Will Continue

Ghana football fans are wailing,  club administrators are crying (because they pay players who don’t run 90 minutes week in and out). But if those of us outside think it is the PLB, the body empowered to administer league football in the country is at fault for decline and not the Ghana Football Association. The FA chose heads of the Premier League Board and takes the glory when success is achieved.

Those are your views. Personally, I prefer the facts.

But what are the facts? The only indisputable facts about Ghana Premier League is that, Welbeck Abra-Appiah honorably relinquished his position as Chairman of the Premier League Board at the end of last season, which was accepted by the man who kept him in charge of the office — Kwesi Nyantakyi and he handed over the keys of the PLB office to Ashford Tetteh, we are in 2016 and local football is coma, and we don’t even know when Clubs will take to the pitch to wine up each other for the league crown, the GFA can’t confirm promoted clubs to replace Great Olympics, Heart of Lions and B.A United.

The rest is conjecture.

Much of it, anyway, Is Welbeck Abra-Appiah led administration killed local football as I said when his exit was confirmed, the league will start on January 20 or early February 20, the motivation behind so many confrontations, even the ability of Tema Youth and GFA to pay CAS to attend to case before them is now being debated. As journalists, we write what we hear, we hope our information is sound, and our opinion matters.

And my opinion is worth considering, though, because it makes as much sense as any other explanation for such a sudden decline. What do I think? That there is no way Ghana Premier League should be where it is, and is now reflecting badly on the Premier League Board instead of the Ghana Football Association, and maybe the Sports Ministry?

I have followed with keen interest various arguments from all manner of people, reviewing Abra-Appiah’s stay at the helm of the PLB affairs, either eulogizing or flaking the body for a failure for leading local football to a decline.

Admittedly, Gone are the days when Accra Hearts of Oak verses Kumasi Asante Kotoko brought the nation to a standstill. Gone are the days when Ghana led the line for others to follow. Gone are the days when other countries came to Ghana to understudy what made our club football so spectacular. Where those times and seasons when the names of players in the local scene were on the lips of Ghanaians like ladies and their make-up.

Why have Ghanaian football-loving fans become less and less enchanted by what is supposed to be the biggest competition in the country. Fans don’t even try going to game nor envy friends who do. As former ultras, they could be forgiven for being nostalgic of the good old days.

Again, these are all theories. But so are debates, in essence. Have you for once asked three mind-boggling questions: ‘why the sudden decline of Ghana football?’

Which body is responsible for the decline?

And what efforts are being put together to bring back Ghana Premier league of yesteryear?

The Ghana Premier League was the home of soccer, but it has dropped faster than Cristiano Ronaldo waiting in the air to head a ball.

In the first four to five years, under Abra-Appiah led PLB,  Ghana had four representatives in CAF inter-club football competitions.

So what happened before the number of Clubs representing Ghana in Africa came down from four to two?

It is an open secret that the FA face challenges they wish never existed and so is the PLB, and that of the Sports Ministry. The decline of the local football some say is synonymous to the decline of the economy and that has resulted in lack of funding or the decline of the cedi. If my memory serves me right, a dollar was 0.90 pesewas in 2007, and in less than a decade,  a dollar is approximately 4 cedis. Isn’t that insane? Well, this piece is not talking about today’s economy, it is talking about what drives us together. It is talking about our passion. It is talking about our football.

From the head to the toe, every body find comfort under the ozone to avoid the ultraviolet rays. The beautiful excuse is ‘lack of funding’ which is the python killing Ghana football.

But why was yesteryear better than today, why did the government withdraw their assistance for Ghanaian clubs competing abroad in CAF inter-club football competitions?

And to the GFA, what happened to the account the Premier League Board opened in conjunction with the you with Bank of Africa when Abra-Appiah was the Managing Director to save funds generated from premier league matches.

And to the PLB, what efforts have been put together to redeem your image as the body administering club football and not the GFA?

I must confess the PLB under Welbeck Abra-Appiah in its first five years was not as bad as it in the last five years. It wasn’t rosy but it was better. We knew our league calendar, but in the last five years, it’s been disastrous.

Sports Ministry is partner to the decline. The ministry and the National Sports Authority has made little efforts to provide infrastructure nor maintain the grounds available for our football.

Clubs have equally done little to brand themselves to attract corporate sponsors to help reduce the financial burden.

However, the chunk of the blame for Ghana flagship competition being as remote as kids playing street football are Korle Gono should be served before the Ghana Football Association.

The PLB is a subcommittee of the Ghana Football Association and has no power to influence certain decisions. The Status of the FA stipulates categorically the dos and don’ts, the responsibilities and duties of the PLB and these rules has kept the body at arm’s length. An example is clear from the body inability to stamp their authority and resist closing a Bank account when the FA egotistically felt they were becoming powerful and heading towards autonomy. Monies generated from premier league matches were saved in that account and used to pay match officials, promote the league, pay match commissioners, match coordinators, and take care of other responsibilities in terms of which finances were needed were taken cared of through that account.

When the PLB close the account, all the above responsibilities which were properly taken care of seized. Is it not the responsibility of the PLB to pay the people they employ to help run the league smoothly? Why did the FA take away such responsibilities from them?

It is disappointing that Ghana is still grappling with very elementary problems such as a lack of adherence to a fixed football calendar, allegations of match fixing, poor officiating, failure of the FA’s judicial bodies to adjudicate disputes in time, among other issues which have all contributed in no s­mall measure to the unattractiveness of the league to fans and the corporate sector. Can’t we blame poor officiating or allegations against referees for going to match venues with results in their pocket on the FA? Officiating was poor, but it was not as bad as we see it today.

Isn’t it sad that the Premier League Board are being crucified for not fixing a date for the new season. If the PLB were able to confirm their relegated clubs without any legal battles, is it not the responsibility of the Division One League Board to confirm their promote clubs too?

If the Division One League Board had done their home work well, these problems wouldn’t be in existence.

Isn’t it the responsibility of the adjudicating bodies to expedite cases before them to ensure smooth running of the league. When the PLB could sometimes intervene in decision-making by the Disciplinary Committee to expedite processes, they were told they are a subcommittee of the GFA just like any body and cannot control them. If the PLB is only a subcommittee who are not permitted certain responsibilities, must we blame them for the delay of the league.?

In’t it sad to know that the PLB are sidelined and only dance to the tune of the Ghana Football Association. Why would the Ghana Football Association take away the responsibility of advising referees from the PLB? Who is administering the league? Is it the FA or the PLB?

Until the Premier League Board is decoupled from the Ghana Football Association, not even Moses can lead us to the promise land.

Wake Up From Your Slumber - SWAG Tells GFA And PLB

Sports Writers Association of Ghana has told the football governing body of Ghana to wake from their slumber amd fixed problems local football.

The Ghana Premier league has decline in the last decade, and sports writers of country has called on the country to revive the walking corpse.

Last year, the Ghana Premier league was delayed by over four months due to the FA failure of the association to expeditely solve problems the Disciplinary Committee, and same is happening this year.

SWAG believes the FA should have led the country’s flagship competition to higher level after overseeing successful in contrast, the league has rather gone down the drain.

A statement signed by SWAG President, Kwabena Yeboah, said it was very disappointing and discouraging that four clear months after the 2014/15 season ended with AshantiGold winning the First Capital Plus Premier League title, there is growing uncertainty and uneasiness over the undue delay in the commencement of the new season which has thrown the preparations of the Premier League clubs into disarray.

“After organising the Premier League for over two decades, with Mr Welbeck Abra-Appiah in charge of the PLB for the last decade, it is rather disappointing that we are still grappling with very elementary problems such as a lack of adherence to a fixed football calendar, allegations of match fixing, poor officiating, failure of the FA’s judicial bodies to adjudicate disputes in time, among other issues which have all contributed in no s­mall measure to the unattractiveness of the league to fans and the corporate sector,” the statement said.

SWAG president added that: “It is about time the GFA Executive Committee, in particular, sat up to confront the numerous problems that militate against the development of the local game, such as sponsorship for its competitions and general reforms aimed at giving the PLB greater autonomy and powers to effe­ctively organise the FA’s flagship competition.”

“In the last few years the FA has been entering into sponsorship deals for the Premier League which end in litigation. We had issues with the GLO sponsorship and now the Capital Bank has also pulled the plug on its sponsorship. We cannot continue this way because the FA always gets its act right when it comes to the Black Stars but the same cannot be said about the elite football competition.” It noted.

Abra-Appiah Thank Nyantakyi For Letting Him Serve Ghana

Former Ghana Premier League Board Chairman, Welbeck Abra-Appiah has thanked Ghana football association president Kwesi Nyantakyi for giving him the opportunity to serve mother GhanKe

Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi gave Abra-Appiah the mandate to lead the Premier League Board, and he appreciates the honour done to him.

“…I will not forget the president of Ghana FA Kwesi Nyantakyi. I don’t know what the man saw in me to have made me to stay for 10 years as the chairman of the PLB,” Abra-Appiah told TV3 Ghana.

“To Akwesi, I say thank you for permitting me to serve mother Ghana. There are many others I want to thank.

Abra-Appiah said he made very good friends that had it not been for football, he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet them.

“I have met very wonderful people on my line of duty but for football I wouldn’t have known such people.”

Mr. Welbeck Abra-Appiah was appointed chairman of the Premier League Board in 2005 after initially serving as member of the FA decision making body.

He was part of the Ghana League Clubs Association board which was inaugurated in 1993 by then sports minister E.T Mensah at the Plush Novotel on June 15.

On that board, Mr Welbeck Abra-Appiah was made first vice chairman of the body led by Maj (RtD) Yaw Larson. He held that position for about twelve years before Kwesi Nyantakyi named him Chairman of the Ghana Premier League Board.

I Don"t Begrudge My Critics - Abra-Appiah

Premier League Board former Chairman, Welbeck Abra-Appiah says he harbour no hard feelings against his critics during his stay as the head of the PLB.

Abra-Appiah who took office in 2005 was censured for the decline of local football.

Prior to him taking over, local clubs were a constant threat to other elite teams in CAF’s inter-club football competitions –Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Players from the local scene regularly featured for the senior national team, the Black Stars, and spectators thronged to match venues. But all that declined in his 10 years at the helm of affairs.

He constantly censured for the poor state of of Ghana local football with some sections of the media claiming he used the position for his own aggrandizement.

But Abra-Appiah says those who constantly criticised his work only kept him on his toes to work harder.

“I want to thank everybody in the media. I had very good friends among the media,” the former financier of Okwahu United told TV3 Ghana.

Mr. Abra-Appiah had special message for Accra-based radio station Asempa FM ‘Fire-for-fire’ programme host, Patrick Osei Agyemang popularly known in the media circle as Country man Songo, and Enoch Akwasi Worlanyo Wallace for keeping him on his toes.

“I want to ask for a special message for my good friends Songo and Wallace. I don’t begrudge them in any way. They put me on my toes.

He added: “They helped me to look at things the way they should be and I’m grateful for that.”

Abra-Appiahannounced his decision to drop his working tools after 10 years as the head of Ghana football.
