I Was A Very Good Goal Scorer - Hassan Ayariga

Hassan Ayariga, 2012 Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Congress (PNC) has said that he was so prolific that he scored goals almost everyday when he is on the pitch.

Mr. Ayariga who is very passionate not only about football but other sports, believes that he would have been a world best had he played football the highest level.

He revealed that he was also into athletics in his secondary days, specifically 5000 meters for his school and further went on to say he could have been one of the best players in the world, had he taken football seriously during his younger years.

“I will be very sincere with you that anytime I play a soccer game I always score a goal so if I had followed football; I would have been one of the best players in the world,” Hassan Ayariga, who is rumoured to be leaving PNC to form a his own political party, told TV3 Ghana.

He added that an injury to his brother, former sports minister, Mahama Ayariga ended their dream of playing football.

“My brother, Mahama Ayariga and I were very good footballers so we played a soccer game between our town (Bawku) and Bolga in which my brother was stamped and had a crack in the bone.

“This led to our father forbidding us from playing football again but as young people, we sometimes sneaked out to play with our friends. I can confidently say that I still score goals till date when I am fielded in a team to play football.” He said.

PNC Moves To Stop Members From Joining Ayariga"s "New Party

The People’s National Convention (PNC) is calling on its members who have allegedly been lured into signing documents for the formation of a new political party to write to the Electoral Commission (EC) to cancel the process.

The party says it has picked up information that its former presidential candidate, Hassan Ayariga, is luring PNC members into endorsing forms for a new party he is spearheading.

The General Secretary of the PNC, Atik Mohammed, told Citi News some party members have already signed the forms.

He is thus calling on the members who appended their signatures unwillingly to take immediate steps to renounce it.

“Some expressed concern that they had been deceived or tricked into signing some documents so we asked that all those who did that should immediately write to the Electoral Commission to renounce whatever signatures.”

He claimed he was unfairly treated at the congress that saw his defeat.

He was beaten by Dr. Edward Mahama, a 70-year-old man who returned to the race after leading the party from 1996 to 2008.

Mr. Ayariga lost with 426 votes as Dr. Edward Mahama polled 492.
