John Terry with Premier League trophy

Terry has won four Premier League titles with Chelsea

Veteran Chelsea defender John Terry has signed a new one-year deal with the Premier League club.

In an emotional speech after his side’s final league game against Leicester on Sunday, the 35-year-old, who was out of contract in the summer, said he wanted to remain at the club.

“Everyone knows I’m Chelsea through and through,” said the ex-England skipper.

New GHALCA First Test Looming

Before the new Executive Council of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), is sworn into office (today), their first big test is looming.

GHALCA under the chairmanship of Alhaji Raji contracted a $9,000 loan from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), without the knowledge of the other members and without the proper administrative procedure.

When the issue escalated, it will be recalled that Messrs Raji and George Amoako, Treasurer of the Association claimed the money was meant to defray part of a $30,000 indebtedness to Nigeria side, Enugu Rangers for playing in the 2013 President’s Cup

Enugu Rangers denied receiving any money from the Association, and Sportscrusader.com can confirm that the Nigerian club is still owed the said amount, though the President of GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi stepped in in trying to solve the issue.

Mr Raji who promised to refund the money, did not repay it to the Association, or settle Enugu Rangers their money either.

Sportscrusader.com can confirm that Enugu Rangers wrote to FA after the GHALCA elections last month, reminding them of the debt owed them; asking the new leadership to address the issue.

New Russia Doping Cover-Up Alleged

A whistleblower has alleged undercover Russian intelligence agents posed as anti-doping staff to cover up cheating at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

Former Russian anti-doping agency worker Vitaly Stepanov made the claims on CBS network’s 60 Minutes programme.

He said he was told of a cover-up by Grigory Rodchenkov, the former head of Moscow’s anti-doping laboratory.

Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko said the new allegations were “speculation”.

Rodchenkov was not interviewed by the programme, which was broadcast on Sunday, but 60 Minutes journalists said they had listened to recordings of him speaking to Stepanov.

The BBC has been unable to independently verify the allegations made in the programme.

Stepanov said Rodchenkov told him that agents from Russia’s security service, the FSB, “worked as doping controls officers during the Sochi Games” and “tried to control every single step of the anti-doping process in Sochi”.

He further claimed he had been told four Russian gold medallists at the Games were using steroids.

The World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) has said it will investigate the new allegations.

Russian athletes have already been banned from international competition by the sport’s world governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), after a Wada commission report alleged “state-sponsored” doping in the country.

The same report said Rodchenkov was complicit, asking for and accepting bribes and destroying blood and urine samples. He later resigned from his role as head of the Moscow lab.

Stepanov and his wife, banned athlete Yuliya Stepanova, were the main whistleblowers in a series of German television documentaries in 2014 which alleged “99%” of Russian athletes were doping. Those claims led to the Wada independent commission being set up.

The IAAF is meeting next month to assess whether Russia has done enough to tackle its doping culture before being allowed to take part in August’s Olympic Games in Rio.

Prosecutor Seeks Suspended Jail Term For New Chelsea Boss

An Italian prosecutor wants incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte to get a six-month suspended prison sentence and fine over his alleged role in a match-fixing case, according to his lawyer.

Conte, who denies any wrongdoing, is accused by prosecutors in the city of Cremona of “sporting fraud”.

The case focuses on 2011, when he was in charge of Siena in Serie B.

The 46-year-old former Juventus boss will become Chelsea head coach after managing Italy at Euro 2016.

Conte has already served a ban imposed by the Italian soccer federation in connection with the 2011 case.

Prosecutor Roberto di Martino has cited a match against Albino Leffe, claiming Conte knew of match-fixing efforts. He requested the sentence and 8,000 euro fine in a closed-doors hearing in Cremona on Tuesday.

Conte’s lawyer, Leonardo Cammarata, said the defence is due to make its final statement to the court on 11 April and a verdict is due in mid-May.

A Chelsea spokesman said the club would not comment on an ongoing investigation.

Brazil Want New Coach For Olympic Games

The situation of Dunga as coach of the Brazilian national team is very uncomfortable.

Behind the scenes of the CBF, the criticism of Dunga’s work grew after the latest results of the national team.

According to the information from Globo Esporte, leaders with influence in decision making are already discussing the need to reduce the powers of both Dunga as well as team coordinator Gilmar Rinaldi.

Dunga was supposed to be in charge of the side competing in the Olympic Games this August, but an idea that gains strength now is to appoint a new coach for the tournament in Rio de Janeiro.

For the leaders, Dunga can lead the side during the Copa América Centenário in June, but wants a new name to take charge for the Olympics.

It’s important to remember that the Olympic Gold medal is the only title missing from Brazil’s trophy cabinet, and is considered much more important than the competition in United States.

The interim coach would be an outsider, and not Rogério Micale, who led the U23 side in recent matches. Brazil drew with Paraguay on Tuesday for the World Cup qualifiers, and currently sits 6th in the standings.

The new plans of CBF highlights their concern over Dunga and Gilmar, and the performances in the Copa América Centenário can decide the coach’s future with the national side.

Timothy Bradley Reveals New Weapon For Manny Pacquiao

As Timothy Bradley prepares to face Manny Pacquiao for a third time, the 32-year-old says that he’ll be entering the ring on April 9 with something that he never had before: a game plan.

“I think the difference this time around is I have a game plan – I really do have a game plan,” Bradley said on a recent media call.

“My game plan before was to avoid the left hand and hit him with the right hand. Now, the game plan is a little more in detail.

There are things that Manny Pacquiao does that I can take advantage of that I didn’t see before in watching film and breaking film down that Teddy has brought to my attention.

I feel like it’s going to be a completely different fight than the first two.”

Much has been said about Bradley becoming a different fighter with Teddy Atlas in his corner.

Although the two have had only one fight together, Bradley boasts that he has evolved since departing from Joel Diaz last year.

The confidence that Bradley shows in Atlas, and vice versa, could be imperative to his success against Pacquiao.

“If I execute the game plan I will have no problem beating Manny Pacquiao just like I was able to beat Brandon Rios with the game plan,” Bradley said.

Back in November, Bradley completely dismantled Rios en route to a ninth round TKO. It was a scintillating performance from Bradley and included a much talked about moment when Atlas delivered his now famous “We are firemen” speech.

Whether that carries over into the Pacquiao fight has yet to be seen but Bradley believes that Atlas has the key to beating his Filipino foe.

“I trust everything that Teddy is telling me and teaching me,” Bradley said. “Teddy can instill everything that I need and I just go out and instill the game plan to win this fight.

He has told me everything I need to know to win this fight and if I don’t go out there and do it I’m not going to win this fight.”

PACNeither Bradley nor Atlas believes that Pacquiao will be different this time around. While there are those who think the eight-division world champion is slowing down, Bradley and Atlas expect him to be the same fighter he has been for the past few years to a fault.

“Manny Pacquiao pretty much does the same thing and I don’t think there will be anything out of the ordinary,” Bradley said. “I don’t think he’s going to do a new wrinkle right away.

He’s been fighting the same way since I have seen him. He knows me but I think I’m going to be a little different this time.”

Bradley realizes that he may be in a no-win situation. Although the series is technically even at one fight apiece, you’ll be hard pressed to find anybody that believes Bradley won their highly disputed first meeting.

Essentially, he’s down 0-2 in the eyes of many. But the added fact that Pacquiao is preparing to retire has Bradley seeing this fight as one where his victory would be blamed more on Pacquiao’s decline than Bradley’s improvements.

“If I beat Manny Pacquiao I already know what is going to be said – ‘Oh he was old’ – but I know Pacquiao is still great and he still can fight,” Bradley said.

And despite what the fans and critics may think, Bradley is only concerned with impressing one group of people, his family.

“This is an opportunity for my kids to talk about years from now with their classmates – that their father beat Manny Pacquiao.”

GPL Preview: Hearts welcome New Edubiase United to Accra on Sunday

Glorious Accra Hearts of Oak will battle New Edubiase United at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra on Sunday in their opening game of the 2015/16 football season in Ghana.

The Phobians finished the last campaign in 13th position from the 16 club contest and will be eager to better that performance, this campaign starting on Sunday.

They will hope to start off with a win and will be confident of doing so after they have had what have looked an impressive pre-season campaign under their Japanese-American coach, Kenichi Yatsuhashi.

Last Sunday, they completed that exercise by playing and winning two games against newly promoted premiership outfit, Dreams FC at the Dawu Park which will be home venue for the promoted side.

Fans of the Phobians will hope they can carry that positive mood into Sunday’s game against a New Edubiase United side that finished the last campaign in eighth position.

New Edubiase earn a share of the spoils

Last season, United did the double over Hearts of Oak, winning 2-1 at Obuasi and repeating the same score line in Accra and will therefore not be afraid coming to the capital to face the Phobians.

They have been very quiet in their pre-season preparations but should be ready for the start of the campaign when they come up against Hearts of Oak on Sunday in Accra.

It should be an interesting encounter to savour for fans that will turn up at the stadium on Sunday and an exicting fixture is in store as encounters between the two have shown in the past.

The People’s National Convention (PNC) is calling on its members who have allegedly been lured into signing documents for the formation of a new political party to write to the Electoral Commission (EC) to cancel the process.

The General Secretary of the PNC, Atik Mohammed, told Citi News some party members have already signed the forms.
