Soulama Disappointed After Super Clash Howler

Accra Hearts of Oak Goalkeeper, Soulama Abdoulaye has  expressed disappointment about the howler he committed against arch rivals Asante Kotoko which led to an own-goal and a defeat.

The experienced Burkinabe international miscued a harmless Richard Akrofi Back Pass which slipped into an empty net to hand Kotoko the victory in Monday’s Ghana Premier League Week 10 encounter.

And speaking on an Accra based Happy FM on Tuesday; Soulama described the game as the worse in his career, noting that it was difficult for him to comprehend exactly how it happened.

“I’m shattered by how I conceded the goal. In fact it’s the saddest day in my life, especially conceding such a goal against our arch-rivals Kotoko  I don’t even have tears to cry but life goes. I take responsibility for the goal and I am really disappointed in myself”, he said.

The former Kotoko shot-stopper disclosed that he was unable to sleep throughout the night after that horrendous error and further debunked assertions that he was being accused of bribery.

“I couldn’t sleep. I stayed up all night thinking about it. I’m trying to forget it. Currently my morale is down but I’ll go for training today. No Hearts official has accused me of bribery. They know how hard I fight for the club.” Soulama added

The victory ensured that Kotoko’s dominance over Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium continued.

A former Captain of Accra Hearts of Oak, Amankwah Mireku has called on under pressure Hearts keeper to seek permission from the club’s management and take a sabbatical break to his home land, Burkina Faso.

The experienced goalie has come under intense criticism from a section of the Phobian fans after his howler led to an own goal which handed his former club, Kotoko a 1-0 victory over Hearts at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

And speaking to Kumasi based Metro FM following on Tuesday, Mireku, who was the skipper of the famous Hearts of Oak’s 64 battalions squad said, the Burkinabae short-stopper should advise himself after that grievous error.

“Soulama should advise himself. If I were him, I will pack my things and seek for permission from management to allow me take a sabbatical”, Mireku said.

“He should pack and go back to Burkina Faso and relax. He should go home, eat and sleep and think about how to relieve himself off the pressure.

“When it comes to Hearts and Kotoko games, one cannot play with the heart of the supporters”, the former defender added.

Amankwah Mireku also admitted that he was not impressed with the performance of his former team on the day.

The home defeat to Kotoko means that Hearts of Oak still remains in second place, behind leaders Wa All Stars on the 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League table.

Former Ghanaian international Goalkeeper, Abubakar Damba has attributed Soulama Abdullaye’s howler which gifted Asante Kotoko a 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak on Monday to the Burkinabe’s determination to prove his former club wrong, but has called on Hearts fans to treat the keeper well.

The experienced Phobian keeper endured a terrible afternoon against his former side Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium, scoring an own goal before getting sent off for denying Dauda Mohammed a clear goal-scoring opportunity in the second half.

The Burkinabe was playing against his former club for the first time in a league game in Accra and for Damba, Soulama was keen to prove himself to his former employers.

“In football, everything can happen, the fans were great and the stadium was charged but Soulama should have kept it cool but he wanted to prove himself to his former employers that they were wrong to let him go,” the former Black Stars keeper Asempa Sports.

“He should have understood that he is playing against his former club and he should have again recognized that the pressure will be unimaginable but he was anxious to perform against his former side and that was what cost the team and him as a player.

“I know and I believe he has played in big stadiums and he is the goalkeeper for his national team and he seen big crowds than what we saw at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“The problem was, there was a big miscommunication between Soulama and his defender but in all, let us treat him very well and motivate him or else he will lose his confidence as a player because he has a lot of football in him.” Damba added.

Kotoko Approach Super Clash With Better Tactics- Former Hearts Player

Head Coach of Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC and a former Hearts of Oak defender, Winfred Dormon has stated that Asante Kotoko approached Sunday’s Super Clash with better tactics.

The Phobians succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to their arch rivals via a Soulama Abdullaye own goal and Dormon whose Dreams FC side also suffered a home loss to the Porcupine Warriors on match week 8 says Kotoko deserve to win.

Speaking to SportsCrusader.com after the game, the young trainer said, “Kotoko deserved the win because they were tactically better than Hearts”

“They did everything right and Hearts were not good enough on the day”, he added.

The defeat means Hearts of Oak remains in second place behind Leaders Wa All Stars who also lost 0-1 away at Medeama SC on Sunday

Form Don"t Count In Super Clash - Abdul Razak

Former Asante Kotoko player and coach, Abdul Razak ‘Golden Boy’ says matches between the Porcupine Warriors and Hearts of Oak has nothing to do with the current form of either side.

The two most glamorous clubs in the history of Ghana football, have had contrasting performances this season.

Hearts of Oak are flying high after nine games, acquiring 18 points from a possible 27. However, their bitterest rivals had their worst start to a season in 42 years.

The two teams will meet for the first time this season, and football pundits expect the Rainbow colours to whitewash the Porcupine Warriors.

But the former Stade Malien head coach is adamant Hearts will not find it easy on Monday.

“Matches between Hearts and Kotoko go beyond form. This game means a lot to the players, the coaches, fans and even former players. Every player will want to play in a match like this,” Abdul Razak told Sportscrusader.com.

“The determination the players come on to the field with makes it a different game. The side with the best form on the day wins. You can win all your matches against other teams but when they meet, your form won’t count,” he noted.

Kotoko Players Donate To Injured Colleague

Ahead of Monday’s Super Clash with Hearts of Oak, the players of Asante Kotoko have donated an amount of GHȼ200 to their injured colleague, Jackson Owusu at his residence in Kumasi.

The money was raised from the players’ individual contributions from the money given them by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during their recent visit to the Manhyia Palace.

It will be recalled that the Kotoko Life Patron engaged the players individually at the inner chamber of his Palace following a faltering start to the 2015/2016 campaign which resulted in suspension of head coach David Duncan after the defeat to Aduana Stars.

After the meeting, each player received an amount of GHȼ400 from Otumfour as part of his effort to unravel the reasons for the team’s poor results.

Jackson Owusu, who has been ruled out of action for the entire season, missed out on the visit but skipper of the side, Amos Frimpong said the players could not enjoy the Asantehene’s benevolence alone hence their decision to give him a part of it.

“Jackson Owusu is a colleague who could not be part of that rare visit and meeting. He would have gone there with us if not for the fact that he is injured. We gave him the money so he would feel like he went with us. This is because though he is not with us in person, we feel his presence around us wherever we go or play” the captain said after the donation.

Kotoko Will Get Over Edubiase Defeat- Team Manager

Team Manager of Asante Kotoko, Adu Poku is optimistic the playing body of the club can get over last Saturday’s defeat to New Edubiase as they prepare to face rivals Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

A rejuvenated Kotoko had gone four matches without a defeat until Edubiase burst their bubble on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat.

And Speaking to Kotoko’s official website, Adu Poku admitted that the defeat was a big blow but was adamant the players have the character needed to get over such a situation.

“The guys are mentally tough and also very united so they will get over the defeat very soon and start winning again”, he said.

Adu Poku added that: “They do everything together. The level of comportment is high in camp. Football is a team sport. They carried their comportment and togetherness unto the pitch whenever we play and try to assist and cover up for each other.

“This is why we were winning and these same attributes will help them out of this defeat and get back on to winning ways”.

Hearts of Oak Board Chairman, Togbe Afede XIV has promised a special package to the playing body should they beat arch rivals Asante Kotoko on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians have had a good start to the 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League campaign despite widely reported off-field upheavals between the management of the club and head Coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi.

Hearts of departed Accra to Akosombo after Tuesday morning’s training session to continue with their preparations ahead of the Super Clash.

And SportsCrusader.com understands that, Togbe Afede, who met the team on Tuesday afternoon, urged the players to go all out for victory for a special package.

Hearts of Oak are currently second on the league table with 18 points, 2 behind leaders Wa All Stars with Kotoko lying 9th with 11 points.

In a related development, Hearts of Oak have vowed to repeat their 4-0 win they recorded over Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in 2000.

Hearts To Sell 38,000 Tickets For Super Clash, Advance Tickets Out On Thursday

Administrative Manager of Accra Hearts of Oak, Mr. Hackman Aidoo has disclosed that the club has decided to sell 38,000 tickets for the Ghana Premier League Week 10 clash with Asante Kotoko on May 2 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

According to him the necessary security features will be on all printed tickets before they are released for sale to prevent racketeering.

Advanced tickets for the game will go out on sale from Thursday at the Airport Shell shop, Accra Sports Stadium and the club’s secretariat in Accra.

The popular stand and center line will go for GH¢10.00 and GH¢15.00 respectively while fans will be required to pay GH¢30.00 for lower VIP and GH¢40.00 for Upper VIP. VVIP is going for GH¢100.00.

Accra Hearts of Oak has released the rates for the Match-Day 10 Ghana Premier League (GPL) fixture against bitter rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium on 2 May.

The Rainbow club, who are currently second on the league log, will host the Porcupine Warriors in the topmost liner of the matches.

The 2000 CAF Champions league winners have increased ticket prices for the various stands for the game.

The least rate for the game is GHC 10.00, while the highest seat (VVIP) will go for GHC 100.00

The Upper and lower VIP section will cost 40 and 30 Cedis respectively, and the center line ticket will be sold for GHC 15.
