Volta GJA Beat Akatsi North District In Anniversary Match

As part of their 4th Anniversary celebration as a district, the Akatsi North District hosted the Volta Regional branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) in a football game at the Ave Dakpa Senior High School park.

The GJA team, which comprises of predominantly members from the Volta Regional capital, Ho, got the better of the their host, urging them out 3-2 in a keenly contested encounter.

They journalists scored the first goal of the game just under 15 minutes through Mawunyo Atitse before the Akatsi North District equalized with a long range effort 5 minutes to end the first half.

However, the GJA Volta team scored their second goal 2 minutes into the second half through Davis Attuquaye Clottey, after he received a beautiful return pass from Rustum Gameli Senorgbe, placing the ball at the left corner of the goalkeeper.

The goal motivated the GJA Volta team further to possess the ball in midfield making the Akatsi North District just run around in frustration.

Their superiority paid off with a third goal which was scored by Eric Fiawornu, who left the Akatsi North goalkeeper with no chance.

However, it was Akatsi North District that had the last bite of the cherry with a stunning long range effort that left many of the journalist wondering.

The goal proved  to be nothing more than a consolation with the match finally ending 3-2 in favour of GJA Volta.

Speaking to the media after the fun filled event, the DCE of Akatsi North District, James Gunu thanked the GJA for honoring the invitation and also recommended them for their exceptional performance on the field.

Matts Sports Consult To Begin Operations in Ho

Matts Sports Consult, an organization with the vision of setting up football academy and other sports disciplines, is set to start operations in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region of Ghana. 

They will camp interested athletes and groom them for a better career, with modern facilities which will enhance and sharpen their talents.

They have already secured a camp base at Sokode Tsawoenu and expects interested athletes to come brighten their talent and explore their chances of making it in the future.

Matts are looking at athletes are between the ages of 13 and 20, with football players set for a justifier.

GCA To Construct Cricket Oval In The Volta Region

The Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) has promised to construct a Cricket Oval in the Volta Region, should the region acquire a land for the facility.

The region has become the eye of Cricket in Ghana, and have won an award for developing the game despite doing their first ever introductory course in May 2015, after which they had first inter school competition in August under the supervision of the GCA.

They then had the opportunity to learn how to score and umpire the game in December 2015.

In the years 2016, they organized an Easter fun games which gave the GCA the opportunity to see the potential players and thus proposed the idea of a cricket pitch, should a land be acquired.

Henry Benjamin Ackom, the Cricket Operations officer of the GCA had talks with Togbe Howusu Palmas, who is the Chairman of the region and plans are underway.

The Ghana Cricket Association, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) their International body, is ready to do anything that will help develop and spread the game.

As the GCA awaits the readiness of the region to get the pitch done, Secretary of the region Victor Tetteh has confirmed that the Volta Region will continue to use the various parks for training.

“You know the pitch on which Cricket is played, we don’t have it here. It is only in Accra and Kumasi that we can find one.

“The Ghana Cricket Association is planning to build one for us here in Ho. So until that time, we will be using the normal parks to prepare our teams and for our training.

“We can then say we have our own Cricket pitch when the GCA fulfils their promise which I believe they would as and when we get the land”, Tetteh said in an interview.

The GCA already have pitches in Accra, Achimota and Obuasi, one in Volta will expand the catchment area of Cricket and it’s love by people.

Ghana Cricket: Volta Region To Host CAP II Course On Wednesday

The Volta Regional Cricket Association will be having their Cricket Administrators Program (CAP) Module II on Wednesday May 4 at the Regional Physical Education Office in Ho.

The 15 participants course will be centered on ‘Effective Meeting’ as participants had already gone through Community Cricket lessons in February.

The course will also be followed by a high performance for U-13 boys and girls competition on Thursday and Friday.

This is part measures for the formation of the regional team as pupils selected from the two-day competition will be groomed properly for future competition.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Lawrence Ahadzi, the Facilitator for CAP said the Course has been designed to help improve the skills of Cricket Administrators.

“This course has been designed to improve the practical skills of cricket Administrators across the country. So this is a course which is in line with ICC Africa to actually educate people within the cricket fraternity about how meetings are held and how it should be done in a cricket friendly manner”, Mr. Ahadzi said.

The General Secretary of the Volta Regional Cricket Association, Mr. Victor Tetteh also expressed the region’s readiness for the course.

“We are very ready for the course. The participants are ready and have waited so long for the program. We will then have a clinic for selected players from schools to help form and regional team for boys and girls at the Mawuli football field. Friday, we’ll have mini games to help keep them active”

The Ghana Cricket Association will bounce back for the 3rd and 4th modules before the year ends.

Volta Region Awarded For Cricket Development

The Volta Regional Cricket Association have been awarded with a plague and certificate in recognition of developing the game of Cricket for the year 2015, on Saturday April 16.

The award which was presented by the President of the Ghana Cricket Association, Professor William Ampofo was received by the secretary on behalf of the region at a general meeting held in Accra.

Confirming the news, Mr. Victor Tetteh told TalksenseSports that he feels the region really deserves the award.

“We Have won a certificate and a plague and on it, it is written ‘In recognition towards the development of Cricket in Ghana. It is presented to Volta region as an Association. I feel so great, so excited because prior to the meeting, I felt as a region, we’ve not done enough this year but did a lot last year.”

The region had an ‘introductory to Cricket Coaching Course’ early last year and after that organized an inter School competition from primary to SHS.

They have also visited several other schools to introduce the game of cricket to them.

Furthermore, six Coaches from the Region successfully went through the level 1 coaching course organized in Accra, which proved to the mother body, the potential in Volta.

The meeting, which was held at the Noguchi Conference room in Legon was to assess and review the first quarter of the year and had representatives from all the 10 regions present.
