Ghanaian Taekwondo Kids Getting Ready For Some Independence Day Action

The 59th independence day celebrations of Ghana will see a performance by the Ghanaian Taekwondo Kids at the events exhibiting various specialties at the ceremony on Sunday, 6th March 2016 at the independence square in Accra.

 

100 Kids from the St Kizito Basic School in Nima  are expected to participate and exhibit some special skill in the art of taekowondo

 

The kids have been engaged in serious training for the past two weeks.

 

10 kids will do a special performance on that day to showcase their skill in the sports.

Ghana Taekwondo Federation To Organize Training Course For Referees

Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) will organize a refresher course for referees, fixed for  Monday, 21 March to Friday,25 March 2016 in Accra.

Taekwondo in Ghana is gradually gaining prominence among youth who are interested in making a name for themselves in the sports.

This growth has prompted the GTF to organize the a coaching course  for local trainers who are holding a Black Belts.

The General Secretary of the GTF, Mr. Charles Amofa told sportscrusader.com about the intentions of the federation with regards to the upcoming training program.

He said “this upcoming course will enhance the knowledge of referees in order to promote the sport in Ghana”.

Mr.Amofa also added the significance of the training programs to promote fairness in the officiating of bouts in the sport.

Sports Minister-designate Nii Lantey Vanderpuije has promised all sporting disciplines in the country that he is going into the office of the sports ministry as a sports minister and not a ‘football minister.‘

The sports ministry has over the years being criticised for ignoring other sports federations in the country.

And Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, a former journalist and boxing promoter, who told the parliamentary vetting committee on Monday reiterated his promised to give equal attention to all the sports sectors in the country.

“I can assure Ghanaians that all sporting disciplines will receive equal attention under my tenure in other to contribute to their growth and winning of more international medals and competitions,” the former GBC sports broadcaster told Asempa FM.

Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is coming into the sector as a former amateur boxer and footballer, former broadcast journalist and has served in several sports administrative roles including the president for the Ghana Weightlifting Federation.

He will replace Dr. Mustapha Ahmed who served at the Ministry for eight months.

Ghana Premier League Is Suffering From Bad Cough - Sports Minister Designate.

Honourable Nii Lante Vanderpuije, Sports Minister-designate had described the state of the Ghana Premier league as one suffering from a ‘bad cough.’

Ghana’s flagship club football has declined to the lowest levels, and that has even been compounded by the FA inability to have a fixed calender of late for the domestic top flight football.

The 2014 / 2015 Ghana premier league season was delayed by about six months due to legal war between King Faisal Babies and the Football Association, and that had a bearing in the next date for a new season.

The FA had wanted to minimize the effect and tentatively scheduled December 20 for the start of the domestic season, but a legal issue between Wa African United and Techiman City crippled the initial start date.

With Ghanaians growing frustrated and mounting pressure on the FA,  February 20 was fixed as the new date, but the GFA Ethics Committee ruled on the Wa African United and Techiman City case and demoted Techiman City, one of the sixteen clubs, putting the start of the season in limbo.

And Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, the Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency and Sports Minister designate who met the parliamentary vetting committee yesterday (Monday) before he takes over the office dubbed the ‘Lions den’, bemoaned the state of the league.

“The Ghana Premier League is the country’s domestic football and as we speak, we all know the league hasn’t started yet,” the former sports journalist told Accra-based radio station, Happy FM.

He explained the cause of the delay and said he believes the league is suffering from bad cough.

“The case involving Techiman City (and Wa African United) has not been trashed out and that has resulted in the long delay of the new season… the Ghana premier league is suffering from bad cough,” He said.

The FA insist the ruling from its Ethics Committee has not changed the planned date for the commencement of the league on February 20.

Ghana"s Brightest for Rio 2016 Games is Tae-Kwondo - GTF

With the upcoming qualifiers in Taekwondo which is to takes place in Morocco sees four very promising stars from Ghana who are looking forward to grab a ticket to the Rio Olympic games in 2016.

Ghana is represented by four athlete namely Danielle Pelham(58kg), David Adjetey(80Kg), Eunice Adedapo (49kg) and Terence Asare (58kg)  flew to Morocco on Wednesday,3rd February 2016 to participate in the competition.

Adjetey –  a 80kg athlete is undoubtedly one of the brightest spots in the upcoming qualifiers because of his high points build up in the sport.

After winning a silver medal in the All Africa Games (AAG), which was held in Congo and also after participating the Las Vegas Open Taekwondo in December, Adjetey looks very strong for possible qualification.

Danielle Pelham, a 57kilo athlete who also has a good points build up looks very bright in her quest to qualify for the Olympic games, as she won a bronze medal in the AAG in Congo last year.

In an interview with the General secretary of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF),  Charles Amofa said “there is no doubt as to the talent we have sent to Morocco and i know for sure that, Ghana will be represented in the upcoming Olympic Games”.
