Millennium Marathon Volunteers Gear up For September 3

Ahead of this year’s Accra Millennium City Marathon which is slated for Saturday September 3, 2016, about 150 Volunteers have met in Accra to discuss how to make the event a success.

The meeting, which took place at the Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle last Sunday was under the supervision of the Junior Chamber International (JCI)- a non profit making organization and was used to Orient the volunteers on what will be required of them before, during and after the Marathon.

The volunteers were also divided into three sub-groups (Officiating Assistants, Ribbon Distrutors and Water Distributors), each of whom will have a specific task to execute on the day of the event.

Each of the three sub groups were tasked by the leadership of JCI to hold meetings of their own to educate their members on their respective roles for the Millennium Marathon.

After the meeting, the volunteers posed for a group photo graph which will be posted on the official website of the Accra Millennium Marathon.

Revealed: Hasaacas Players Boycotted Training on Tuesday Over Unpaid Salaries

With less than a week to start the league, Playing body of Ghana Premier League side Sekondi Hasaacas boycotted training on Tuesday as a result of the club’s failure to pay them outstanding arrears, sources  have told SportsCrusader.com.

The players boycotted training on Tuesday evening In protest of 8 months unpaid salaries and multiple winning bonuses.

According to sources close to the ‘Western Show Boys’, the players reportedly met last Thursday and took the decision.

It is however unclear that the management of the club have moved to resolved the situation but sources say the players are adamant that they need all the outstanding salaries before they resume.

FIFA to Debate Indonesia, Kuwait Voting Rights

Suspended FIFA member federations Indonesia and Kuwait will have their voting rights assessed next week, two days before the FIFA presidential election.

According to the World’s football governing body, the subject “Associations not entitled to vote” is on the agenda for an executive committee meeting slated for Wednesday February 24 ahead of the FIFA Presidential election on February 26.

It is however, unclear whether or not executive committee member Sheikh Ahmad of Kuwait will take part in the discussion although his FIFA work has not been affected by Kuwait’s suspension.

Sheikh Ahmad is a key backer of presidential candidate Sheikh Salman of Bahrain, but his home federation is currently barred from voting for the Asian confederation president.

FIFA suspended Kuwait and Indonesia last year for breaching rules that prevent government interference in football’s independence.

If the voting bans are upheld, the election should have 207 federations eligible to vote.

Chinese Boxer Jun Qiu Xiao Defeats Raymond Commey

Ghana’s Raymond ‘Chorkor Banku’ Commey lost his title fight against Chinese boxer Jun Qiu Xiao last Friday at the Olympic Park Arena in Lu Zhou, China.

Commey lost via a twelve round unanimous points decision despite going into the bout as the overwhelming favourite.

The Ghanaian went to the Asia country with the aim of stunning his opponents, Xiao but ended up losing the WBA international super bantamweight belts to his Chinese counterpart.

Another Ghanaian also fighting on the night was Tackie Annan who fought earlier on the card against another Chinese opponent Shan Bo in the super lightweight contest.

Annan lost via Technical Knock-Out in round one after he suffered a left shoulder injury.

After Tackie’s unfortunate loss, the spotlight was on his countryman Commey to prove his worth against his opponent Xiao who was fighting in front of a boisterous home crowd.

The Ghanaian started on a good note, landing to the body and head of Xiao but that didn’t trouble the China native as on most occasions he used his reach to his advantage to curtail Commey’s attacks.

Xiao started gathering momentum in the middle rounds, giving Commey the business as the Ghanaian began showing signs of fatigue.

Xiao was in total control by the championship rounds, tearing through Commey’s defense with a series of left and right hooks but the steel-chinned Ghanaian remained upright, fighting back with counters but ultimately not enough to stem the tide.

At the end all the three judges scored the fight 118-109 advantage the Chinese fighter.

England U-20 Coach Excited about Ghana Friendly on Easter Sunday

Ghana’s Under 20 team, the Black Satellites will travel to the Great Britain to play the England under 20’s in an international Friendly at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium on Easter Sunday, 27th March 2016.

The game will be New England head coach Keith Downing’s first and the former West Bromwich Albion trainer minced no words in expressing his delight that his team would be heading to Doncaster to face Ghana in his first game in full charge.

“It’s a lovely place and a great stadium, so we’re delighted they’ll be hosting us,” Keith Downing told the official FA website.

“It is a really exciting game we have to look forward to against African opposition, and Ghana have notoriously done well at youth level so it will be a good test for us.

“It’s an Easter Sunday as well, so it’s a great opportunity for local fans and families to come and enjoy a day out at the football, and watch up and coming England stars on their home turf.”

The game at Doncaster will be the U20s’ first fixture of 2016, and the first Three Lions game at the stadium in three years.

School Children in Dansoman to Watch Liberty vs Inter Allies for Free

As part of Liberty Professionals’’ 20th Anniversary celebrations, the Ghanaian Premier League outfit are granting free entry into the Carle Reindorf park for their first home game of the 2015/16 season against International  Allies.

Formed in January 1996, the Dansoman based side has gone on to become one of the giants in Ghanaian football circles.

Liberty have carved a niche for themselves as the best team in Ghana in terms of nurturing young talents having produced the likes of Michael Essien, John Painstil, Kwadwo Asamoah, and Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan who have all gone on to feature for Ghana at the World stage.

Their Production line was recently ranked among the top 20 football Academies on the Globe along with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Fc Porto.

Speaking on Happy Fm, Media Relations Office of Liberty Professionals Mr. Godfred Akoto Boafo said, “Liberty was formed in 1996 so we are in our 20th Anniversary. And if you come to Dansoman Liberty is surrounded by a lot of Basic schools”

“There are about eight schools between the Dansoman Roundabout and Tunga [a suburb of the Dansoman community] and so our first Home match against Inter Allies on the 28th of February, we are going to open the gates for free to all the school children in the community” he added.

On how the Club will identify the Children from the Schools, Mr. Akoto revealed that, the management of Liberty Professionals are in talks with the authorities of the respective schools to get the arrangement done in a very organized manner.

Liberty will host Inter Allies in week-2 of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League Season, a week after opening their campaign with an away trip to Bechem United.
