The captain of Ghana’s Olympics boxing team, the Black Bombers, Suleimanu Tetteh, has expressed dismay about the terrible conditions under which the team is currently camping ahead of their departure to Cameroun on Wednesday for their crucial Olympic qualifiers.
According to him, despite visiting them to learn at first hand the conditions at the National Hockey Pitch, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has done nothing to avert the situation.
Speakin in an interview with Graphic Sports in Accra, Suleiman Tetteh revealed that the make shift camping facility lacked basic services such as water and electricity.
“We have never had light ever since we came we sleep on the corridors and we are often at the mercy of mosquitoes. Physically we are fit and 80 per cent ready but psychologically we hope we would not be afflicted by malaria and other diseases,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Coach Daniel Latekwei Lartey is upbeat about the team’s chances despite the odds, insisting all is set for the team’s departure on Wednesday.
The eight boxers named to make the trip included light flyweight Suleimanu Tetteh, flyweights Akimos Annan Ampiah and Samatu Quaye, bantamweight Waheed Omar, lightweight Jesse Lartey, welterweight Azumah Mohammed, middleweight Musa Rahman Lawson, heavyweight David Akankoli Bawa, UK-based super heavyweight, Emmanuel Sandama and welterweight, Raquel Miller.
