DOL Clubs Warned Against Crowd Violence

Chairman of the Division One League Board, DOLB Mr. Owuahene Acheampong has warned supporters Ghana’s second tier clubs to desist from hooliganism in the 2015/2016 GN BANK Division One League season.

His comment come after fans of Berekum Arsenals attacked a match official following their 1-1 draw with Real Tamale United last weekend.

Over the years Ghana’s second tier league has been dogged with various incidents of crowd violence and misconduct which has resulted in a number of attacks on match officials and club administrators as well as incidents of bribery.

It could be recalled that, the situation prompted a warning from the league’s headline sponsor GN Bank last season when owner of Elmina Sharks and Flag Bearer of the Progressive People’s Party Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom was pelted with stones during his side’s second round encounter with Ebusua Dwarfs in Elmina.

“We took these concerns in good faith and we have addressed them” Owuahene said in an interview adding that, “Under the discussions that were held all parties involved left with the clear mind that if you allow your fans to misbehave the consequences would be dire. “Under the disciplinary committees new rule dispensation they have 5 days to come out with rulings on cases brought to them,”
