GN Bank DOL: Sponsors Raise Red Flag over Hooliganism

GN Bank, the headline Sponsors of Ghana’s National Division One League are considering pulling out of the sponsorship deal due to crowd trouble at some league centers, SportsCrusder.com has gathered.


This comes after acts of crowd violence were recorded at some venues in the opening three weeks of the 2015/2016 campaign.


On Match Day One, an assistant referee was verbally and physically assaulted at the Berekum Golden City Park when Berekum Arsenal hosted Real Tamale United.


At the Bibiani Park last Sunday, Players and Officials of Emina Sharks were also physically assaulted during their 1-1 draw with Gold Stars on Match Day Three- An incident which left two of Sharks’ players hospitalized.


The Bibiani fans also held TV Crew hostage for several hours after the game demanding that they delete the video footage of the incidence which led to some equipment destroyed.







On the same day, a TV crew from broadcast partners Sports24,but for the interventions of some members of the GFA were nearly denied entry into the Nkawkaw Park when Okwahu United played Okyeman Planners.


These continues act of crowd troubles being recorded have prompted the League Sponsors, GN Bank to consider withdrawing their sponsorship of the league.


Investigations carried out by SportsCrusader.com indicates that, the management of the Bank have registered their displeasure about happenings in the Ghanaian Second tier to the Division One League Board and for that matter the GFA.


A meeting has been scheduled between the two parties to look at how to resolve the situation.


In a related development, Management of Bibiani Gold Stars have promised the Ghana Football Association that their fans will not assault any team or referees again in the GN Bank Division One League but the GFA’s disciplinary committee have indicated Gold Stars will be punished for what happened last Sunday.
