Black Stars Coach Avram Grant believes he is capable of making history with Ghana in their pursuit of becoming the first African country to reach the last four of the FIFA World Cup after coming close towards achieving that feat at South African 2010.
The former Chelsea and Portsmouth of England manager, led the Black Stars to a runners-up finish at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and has also qualified the team to the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Israeli has predicted a bright future for Ghana insisting that he is the right man to lead the team to success.
“In Ghana, I am enjoying the challenge very much. I always say to myself and to the people of Ghana, ‘How can it happen, with so much talent in Africa, not one team has reached the semi-finals of the World Cup?’ Talent is not enough, you need more than talent. It’s a big challenge, and I’m enjoying it,” Grant told FIFA.com.
“The Ghana national team has very good players with a lot of talent. We must remember always that talent is not enough—to maximize that talent is my job,” added the 61-year-old, who is dreaming of making World Cup history with the Black Stars.
“It’s very important to put up objectives. I know that it’s looking too far, but I think at the end of the road, Ghana can do it. There are other African teams that are very good. You can see if they will do one, two, three things, it’s achievable, so we need to do it!”
The Black Stars will on Thursday play Mozambique in the first of a double header aagainst the same opposition in a Group H qualifier of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon.
The Black Stars will host the Mambas of Mozambique in Accra on Thursday, before traveling to Maputo for the reverse fixture scheduled for Sunday.
