Inter Allies Evans Mensah Handed Black Stars Call Up

Inter Allies’ midfield sensation, Evans Mensah has been called-up for the Black Stars AFCON 2017 qualifier double header against Mozambique following his excellent display in the 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League.

The 19-year old playmaker was handed the call-up by Ghana coach Avram Grant on Tuesday to replace injured Chicago Fire striker David Accam.

Mensah’s invitation comes as a surprise after reports emerged on Monday that either Sadick Adams or Eric Bekoe are in line to replace Accam.

The call-up, which was revealed by the Ghana FA in a Twitter post, boosts the notion that players in the country can also compete for positions in the Black Stars.

Accam was originally part of Grant’s 23-man squad released but was ruled out of because of a knee injury he suffered while on club duties.

The dimunitive attacker sprained his knee during training last week and is expected to spend two weeks on the sidelines.

Mensah will team up with the Black Stars squad in training on Tuesday afternoon and will hope to play a part in Ghana’s qualifier with Mozambique at Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday March 24 or the second leg in Maputo four days later.
