Profile: FIFA President-Elect Gianni Infantino

UEFA General secretary, Gianni Infantino has been elected as the new president of the Federation of International Football (FIFA) at the 66th congress to elect a new president.


 


Gianni Infantino, born 23 March 1970 in Brig-Glis is a Swiss football administrator with an Italian origin and has been the general secretary of UEFA since 2009 and holds both Swiss and Italian nationality.


 


On 26 October 2015, Infantino received the full backing of the UEFA Executive Committee to stand for the position of FIFA president in the upcoming FIFA Extraordinary Congress. On the same day, he confirmed his candidacy and that he submitted the required declarations of support

Infantino plans on expanding the FIFA World Cup to 40 teams if elected FIFA president and with his election today, February 26 surely the plan will be fulfilled.


 


He will be FIFA President for a period of 3 years from 2016-2019 after he accumulated 115 votes to close candidate and President of the Asian Football Confederation Sheikh Salman who got 88-votes.
