Maxwell Konadu says he is impressed with the quality of this year’s Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The Black Stars assistant coach has been monitoring the league and he is elated with the quality he’s seen so far.

In the last Black Stars international assignment, AshGold defender Kadri Mohammed earned a debut called up yk the national team alongside Samuel Tetteh (formerly of WAFA, but now with Red Bull Salzburg), Richard Ofori and Fatau Dauda.

According to the former Asante Kotoko boss, the technical team could not overlook their quality.

“I saw the match between Bechem United and Aduana Stars and the standard was very good. We were all impressed with what we saw.

“The league is very good and we are happy with the standard.”

“We have to make sure that we have more pitches. When we do that, the players will perform better than they are doing now.”

Ghana’s next assignment will be a Nations Cup qualifier against Rwanda in Ghana with the Black Stars already qualified.

GPL Report: Kotoko Hold Techiman City

Techiman City continued their unbeaten home run as they settled for a 1-1 draw against Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Sunday at the Nana Ameyaw Park, Techiman on match day 16 of the Ghana Premier League.

Stephen Manu scored for Techiman City in the first half, before Amos Frimpong drew level for Asante Kotoko.

The visitors started the game very well by swinging their passes together and dominated the hosts in the early stages of the game.

However, Techiman City came into the game and Stephen Manu in trying to navigate his way through the Kotoko defence men was brought down resulting in a penalty kick. The former Kotoko player stepped forward to put his team in front in the 26 minute.

There were no more goals in the game to end the first half.

Back from recess Asante Kotoko intensified their search for the equaliser and Amos Frimpong the skipper of the Porcupine Warriors made their dominance count when he nodded in a cross from a free kick to make the score line 1-1 in the 56 minute.

Richmond Antwi emerged as the saviour of Techiman City as he came produced some fantastic goalkeeping to prevent Kotoko from walking away with all the three maximum points.

Techiman City are still unbeaten at home in the Ghana Premier League, but they failed to avenge their first round 2-4 defeat in Kumasi against the visitors.

GPL Preview: Can Kotoko End Techiman City"s Home Invincibility

Having ended the first round of the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League (GPL) with their home superiority over visiting teams intact, Techiman City’s dominance will be tested tomorrow (Sunday) at the Den when they host Asante Kotoko.

The Citizens had a blistering start on their debut top flight game against Berekum Chelsea, sinking them courtesy of Issaka Ibrahim’s only goal of the day, and they will be motivated to rise and repeat the feet against the Porcupine Warriors.

However, the Porcupine Warriors were stunned at home in the quarter finals of the MTN FA Cup by Bechem United to deny them a semi-final berth on last week Sunday.

Dauda Mohammed the leading top scorer of the team with 7 league goal had a bad day in office against Bechem united in the FA Cup, missing a penalty within regulation time and missed again in the penalty shootout to deny his side a place in the semi-finals.

GPL To Resume Late June

The second round of the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season will begin on Saturday June 25.

It was reported the three-week break will end on June 26, but Sportscrusader.com that there will be a match on Saturday, June 25 to commence the second round.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Premier League Board (PLB ) are satisfied with the first round and will outline sessions to better the first round.

Tue FA says they are confident spectatory will be at its apex in the second, and that they are doing all they can to acquire a sponsor for the league before the second round.

Some telecommunication companies as well ad other corporate bodies have contacted to consider sponsoring the league, but the response has been poor.

However, the heads of the country’s football governing body are ‘working seriously’ to find sponsor to help leverage the financial burden on the clubs.

I Am Available For Free - Bancey Tells Kotoko

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko striker, Seidu Bancey has sent a message to management of the club that he is available and is ready to play for free.

Bancey, 26, who joined Asante Kotoko from Ebusua Dwarfs in the 2012-13 Ghana Premier League (GPL) moved to Egyptian side, Smouha SC on a two-year deal.

He mutually agreed to terminate his contract in September 2014 due to the violence in Egypt. He was reported to have joined Turkish giants Galatasaray, but he was relegated to the ‘B’ team and the consistent frustration has forced him to look elsewhere, and returning home he believes is the best option.

Sources close to player has revealed that the 2013-14 GPL golden boot winner is ready to play for Kotoko for free.

Officials of the Porcupine Warriors confirmed to Sportscrusader.com they are aware of his desire to return to the club but were reluctant to confirm whether they are ready for his services.

GPL Fixture Released

The Ghana Premier League (GPL) Week 13 fixture between Liberty Professional and New Edubiase has been called off due to heavy down pour.

Officials of both sides unanimously agreed to postpone the fixture to Monday after the pitch was deemed too bad to host the match.

The match will be played at 3 pm tomorrow.
