GPL Match-Day 20 Preview: Hearts v Chelsea

Accra Hearts of Oak will look to keep top spot of the Ghana Premier League when they host Berekum Chelsea at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra in a match-Day 20 encounter on Wednesday afternoon.

The Phobians moved top of the table on Sunday after keeping their away unbeaten record intact with a 1-0 win over Hasaacas at the Essipong Stadium, Sekondi while other results went their way.

Wa All Stars, Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars who all could have moved top on the ladder, drop vital points which allowed Hearts to climb top with their ninth win of the season.

They will be in buoyant mood for this home game against Chelsea and, will be the odds on favourites to claim victory and keep their leadership at the top intact going into the weekend round of games.

Hearts won the first round encounter at the Golden City Park in Berekum 1-0 with Cosmos Dauda scoring the only goal of the game as his side run away with the three points.

The striker was the hero again for the Phobians in last Sunday’s win over Hasaacas as he scored the match winner and, they will look to him to provide further assistance in Wednesday’s encounter.

His participation in the game is however in doubt after he failed to finish the Sekondi encounter with a suspected foot injury.

Dauda’s potential absence could be a source of worry for the Phobians who have lost all their three games this season at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

New coach Sergio Daniel Traguil will hope their leading marksman’s unavailability will not hurt them as they go in search of their 10^th win of the season.

They will be the strong favourites for the three points especially so as they come up against a side that has failed to win any of their away games this season.

The GPL debutants will be in high spirits of collecting the three points after their impressive 1-0 away victory over Liberty Professionals at the Dansoman Park on Sunday.

They will also have revenge on their minds after they went down to a heavy 1-4 defeat to Aduana Stars in the first round encounter at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park, Dormaa.

Dreams FC will be many people’s favourites to collect the three points and they will be in buoyant mood in front of their home fans as they chase a ninth win of the season.

They have been very impressive in their first campaign in the Ghanaian top-flight and, will not be intimidated as they host an Aduana Stars side that is fourth on the ladder.

The Fire Boys have 31 points from their 19 games and were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom club New Edubiase United at home in their game on Sunday.

That setback could have rippling effect on them as the visit the Dawu Park for the first time this season to play an inform Dreams FC side.

Defending Ghana Premier League (GPL) champions, AshantiGold SC will look to preserve their three-game unbeaten record in the competition when they trek to the Brong Ahafo region to play Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, Bechem on Wednesday afternoon.

The Miners recorded only their fourth win of the season when they beat Inter Allies 1-0 on Sunday at the Len Clay Stadium, Obuasi to move to 10^th on the table with 23 points.

They will hope their mini revival continues against Bechem United in this midweek encounter as they look for the three points that could take them to eighth on the table if other results go their way.

In Bechem United however, they will come up against a side that is also showing signs of a revival as they are undefeated in their last two games.

Last Sunday, they were impressive in holding Asante Kotoko to a barren draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, having beaten Berekum Chelsea 2-0 in their previous encounter.

They are 12^th on the ladder with 22 points and, will overtake AshGold if they win Wednesday’s encounter in front of their home fans.

That will be their inspiration heading into this game and, they will feel positive of producing a result especially so as they forced the Miners to a goalless draw game in the first round at Obuasi.

The Scientific Soccer lost their last GPL encounter 0-1 at home to dreams FC last Sunday, a result that pushed them to eighth on the table as they maintained their 26 points.

United, have been away from their favoured Bekwai base for a season and a half as they have honoured their home games at the Len Clay Stadium at Obuasi.

The Ghana Football Association has given them the all clear to return to the Bekwai venue and, they will seek to make the most of this fortune as they play Hasaacas.

New Edubiase United are rooted to the foot of the table and will need to pick points on board if they hope to avoid the drop.

They will hope the Bekwai fans will troop to the Gyamfi Park in their numbers to cheer them to victory as top-flight football returns to the area.

They will feel confident of a win after holding high flyers Aduana Stars to a 1-1 away draw in Dormaa in their last GPL game last Sunday.

Hasaacas have lost all but one of their away games this season and, although they won reverse fixture 3-1 at the Essipong Stadium, Sekondi, they will find it difficult to trouble an inspired New Edubiase United side.

A win for the home side could see them move out of the foot of the table and they will be gingered up for this encounter against a side that has lost nine of the 19 games they have played this season.
