UN Peace Match: Hearts And Kotoko Share Spoils

Hearts and Kotoko thrilled their fans with some exciting football as they drew 2-2  in the UN Peace Match played at the Accra Sports Stadium.


Hearts  opened the scoring in the first half through their top marksman, Cosmos Dauda from the penalty spot, while Kotoko captain, Amos Frimpong, also earned a penalty in the first half but failed to convert.


Kotoko returned in the second half with some purposeful football and were rewarded accordingly as Sanogo Khalifa equalized for Kotoko with a sublime strike.


Kotoko captain made up for his earlier miss in the first half as he scored the second for Kotoko with some few minutes to end the match.


Amazingly, Hearts of Oak’s combative midfielder struck a long range shot which stunned Kotoko goal keeper to draw parity for his side.


There will be a return leg in Kumasi to decide the winner of the trophy.


Meanwhile, Hearts defender, Inusah Musah, won the Man-of-The-Match award and received $1000US whilst Emmanuel Gyamfi of Asante Kotoko also won the Fair Play award which earned him $1000US too

Hearts - Kotoko Battle For Supremacy In UN Peace Match

Ghana’s two most glamorous football clubs Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will renew their rivalry when they lock horns today in the UN Peace match at the Accra Sports Stadium.


The two giants are set to go head-to-head again for the fourth time this season in yet another battle for supremacy in a day earmarked for the celebration of Ghana’s Founder’s Day (the birth date of the country’s first President Kwame Nkrumah) which is also a statutory public holiday.


The game which is being powered by the United Nations Association Ghana is aimed at seeking tranquility ahead of the November general election.


Aside this being a challenge cup contest, the game is also being used to foster peace and unity ahead of the 2016 General Elections in Ghana.


This will be the fourth time the two fierce rivals will be going at each other this season after their home and away encounters in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and the Republic Day (Presidents’ Cup) game.


Kotoko took four of the six points at stake in the GPL and also won the Presidents’ Cup game in Accra. However, the performance of the two teams was on a high in all three games and many will expect same in this upcoming contest.

Ashantigold Played Excellent Football - Sergio

Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Sergio Traguil has showered praises on AshantiGold Sporting Club after the Miners managed a draw against the league leaders at the Accra Sports Stadium in their Match-Day 22 action in the Ghana Premier league (GPL) on Wednesday.


Robin Gnange’s well struck penalty for the GPL leaders was cancelled out by Anthony Yerful after a good move for AshGold’s equaliser as the spoils were shared.


AshantiGold SC largely dominated the game  playing very exquisite football that was pleasing to the eye and created many chances that could have won them the game if they had utilized them.


In a post match interview, Coach Sergio said: “AshantiGold had a wonderful game, they played very good football accompanied with experience right from defense to attack.”


He added: “Any team that is going to play Hearts is well motivated and I really enjoyed the game despite the draw.”


Hearts of Oak will travel to Sogakope for their next GPL game against WAFA and, will seek to maintain their unbeaten away run in the league against the academy lads on Sunday, August 7, 2016.

I"m not Satisfied With The Draw - Sergio

Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Sergio Traguil claims he wasn’t satisfied with the one all draw with their bitter rivals Asante Kotoko in their ‘Super Clash’ encounter in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), of which he taught they were the better side and deserved all three points.


 


Kwame Boateng fired Kotoko ahead in the first-half before Patrick Razak equalized for the Phobians in the second half in game that was keenly contested considering the hype that preceded it.


 


In a post match interview ,Sergio said; “it was a good and wonderful game between the two strongest side in Ghana,we did enough to win the game considering the numerous chances were created, I’m not satisfied because i didn’t win the all three points,but playing against Kotoko and earning a draw is good, but i think we deserved all three points”.


 


Sergio also elaborated on the overall play and performance of his team which was better in the second half after Kotoko dominated much of the first half.


 


Hearts are still on top of the GPL standings three points adrift Wa All Stars who have a game in hand but still maintain the five points gap with Kotoko who are fifth on the table.


 


Hearts of Oak will be hoping to get back to winning ways as they face off against AshantiGold in the week 22 of the GPL at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday,27 July 2016.

Big Boost for Kotoko Ahead of Hearts Clash

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have being handed a huge boost after their star striker Dauda Mohammed has returned to the team ahead of their ‘Super Clash’ encounter against Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday in Week 21 of the Ghana Premier League.

Dauda missed the last two matches for the ‘Porcupine Warriors’ due to national duty.


 


The forward was part of the team who unfortunately crashed out of 2017 African Youth Championship that was scheduled to be held in Zambia.


This news will come as a great one as Kotoko will be looking forward to get back to winning ways on their home turf against their bitter rivals Hearts of Oak.

Former Hearts Player To Receive $1.25 million From Zamelek

Football world governing body FIFA have ordered Egyptian giants Zamalek to pay Ghanaian defender Karim Alhassan $1.25 million after sacking him in 2012.

Zamelek acquired the 25-year-old’s services in 2011 from Ghanaian champions Hearts of Oak, but released him in the summer of 2012 after he spent the entire season warming the bench with not a single league appearance.


 


Alhassan, who is currently playing for Sudanese side Al-Merrikh, filed a complaint with FIFA, which culminated in this verdict compensating the player.


 


According to the letter sent by the world football governing body to Zamalek, the player is entitled to the entire amount stipulated in his contract after the unilateral termination of his five-year deal.


 


Alhassan was called up for the Ghana national team for a friendly game against Argentina and made his debut in the game on 1 October 2009


 


He was part of Ghana U-20 squad at the 2011 African Youth Championship in South Africa who failed to make past the group stages.

Interim Coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Micheal Osei has expressed his admiration towards the gallant display by his players when they defeated their bitter rivals Accra Hearts of Oak by a goal to nil at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

Every component of the Kotoko set up played a very vital role in their victory, right from defense to attack where they displayed some magnificent agility in their play.


 


In a post match press conference Osei said “all my players where tactically,they supported each other through out the 90 minutes in a very difficult game and am really proud of them for their gallant display”.


 







The fabulous  boys who are currently 9th on the Ghana Premier League table will be looking forward to bounce back from a very poor start earlier this season and challenge for the title the won two years ago

I"m Ready To Step As The Head Coach - Micheal Osei

Interim Manager for Asante Kotoko Michael Osei has expressed his readiness to step as the head coach of the team after his side 1- 0 victory over Accra hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.


 


The Porcupine Warriors defeated Hearts in dramatic faction as their former Goalkeeper Abdoulai Soulama gifted Kotoko  the only goal of the game in the first half.


 


In a post match interview Osei said “this game will be a tactical battle as i said earlier, an fortunately i came on top, am ready to take up the job now if management gives me their backing,my boys fought for me on the pitch , and their willing to fight for any team which am really proud of “.


 


Coach Osei has definitely reinstated a very strong statement to management of after winning the tactical battle over coach of Hearts Kenichi Yatsuachi  who was not happy with the scoreline at the end of the match.

Hearts And Kotoko Should Display Quality Football - Polo

Former player and coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Mohammed Polo has reiterated the need for the players  of Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko to sell to the world the quality brand of football that is being played in the Ghana Premier League.

The start of the 2015/2016 GPL has seen a sizeable increase in spectatorship across  the country which can be attributed to the level of quality of play been witness in the league so far.


 


The former Black Stars player in an interview with Sportscrusader.com said “this football match would be watched by millions around the round and it is the chance for us to prove to the world that we are gradually getting there as one of the football super powers in Africa,it is obligatory for this two clubs to give the fans value for their money”.


 


The ‘dribbling magician’ as he is being referred to also emphasized the need for fluidity with regards to play, in order to prevent any form of controversy that may arise, he also entreated the referee of the game to be firm in  executing his officiating duties.

Kotoko Can Regain Their Rhythm - Polo

Former player and coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Mohammed Polo has said the that Kumasi Asante Kotoko can regain their rhythm if Hearts are complacent in their Ghana Premier League (GPL) Match-Day 10 encounter.


The two heavyweights in Ghana football, are due to clash on Monday, May 2 at the Accra Sports Stadium in a match dubbed as the ‘Super El-clasico Clash’.


The former Black Stars player in an interview with Sportscrusader.com, said, “Kotoko is only facing short term challenges, they have the capability of regaining their momentum against Hearts of Oak, if the players of Hearts are complacent and this could see the Fabulous boys staging a magnificent comeback in the GPL”.


“In matches like this, form guide doesn’t count, the victors are players who are able to concentrate on the match for 90 minutes, and Kotoko is not a bad team at all “.


The ‘dribbling magician’ as he was referred to in his hey days, also emphasized that the season is too early to draw conclusions, and, anything can happen especially when you are able to win two matches in a row.

Polo Cautions Hearts And Kotoko Fans Ahead Of Super Clash

Former Coach and player of Accra Hearts of Oak Mohammed Polo has meted out a word of caution to fans of Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko who will be heading to the Accra Sports Stadium to watch the super clash on Monday.


The match will be the 103rd league meeting between this two great clubs as they log horns for the first time this season.


In an interview with Sportscrusader.com the dribbling magician as he was referred to in his hey days, said, “I think Ghana football has come of age, but it looks like we are not learning from our previous mistakes, the game of football involves three things, either you win, lose or draw”.


“I hope any side that will lose the game should take it in good faith and re-organise themselves as there is a lot of matches to be played,” he said.


He further entreated the match officials who will pick up the mantle of officiating the match to be firm in the execution of their duties.

Yeboah Meets Kotoko Players Ahead of Super Clash

Former Ghana international Antony Yeboah has encouraged the current Kotoko players to rejuvenate the ‘Wukum apem, Apem beba’ spirit ahead of their clash against their biggest rivals Accra hearts of Oak on May 2, at the Accra Sports Stadium.


Kotoko’s form this season has dwindled and Yeboah, an admirer of Kotoko called on the players to rejuvenate their mental toughness in their upcoming matches to secure victory.


The former Leeds United striker advised the players to put the poor results behind and focus on a better league position.


He said this when the players visited him at Yegoala Hotel in Kumasi.


Kotoko who are currently placed 9th on the Ghana Premier League (GPL), are facing a difficult start to the season, and their woes could be deepened if they lose their upcoming match against the bitter rivals who are currently 2nd on the GPL.


Certainly a victory for the fabulous boys will awakened their spirit, which will boost their confidence in their subsequent matches.
