GPL: Kotoko Defender Heaps Praise On League

Kumasi Asante Kotoko stalwart defender, Ahmed Adams has shared kind words about the Ghana Premier league with three rounds of fixtures to be honoured.

The imposing central defender dubbed the domestic championship as ‘super and very competitive’ to debunk the notion of the league’s ‘unattractiveness’ opined by many.

The former Berekum Chelsea defender denied claims suggesting the league’s players are of poor quality and pleaded with the Ghanaian media to continue to market the league to the outside world.

Ahmed Dauda commended the home-based media for their immense role in marketing the league since the league cannot survive without the press.

Speaking on the role of the media to the growth and general appeal of the league, the talented central defender singled out the Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak record breaking attendance in Accra as a testimony.

“As compared to other leagues around, the Ghana Premier league is simply super and very very competitive.

“Some people are trying to kill the soul of Ghana football, otherwise, the league is super.

“The media have been superb with their job because without them, nobody will know what is going on in the league.

“The record attendance during our clash with Accra Hearts of Oak is a testimony of the role played by the media.

“They make it easy to be accessed either on radio, newspapers or the Internet”, Ahmed Adams briefed Sports Crusader.

Kotoko To Withdraw Duo From Camp

Asante Kotoko is considering to withdraw the services of duo, Amos Frimpong and Ahmed Adams from the Local Black Stars camp.

The Porcupine Warriors are plagued with injuries at the back, and releasing two of their key players could be dire to the team’s revival after a horrendous start to the 2015-16 Ghana premier league (GPL) season.

Michael Osei lost Edwin Tuffour who was sent off on Monday against Hearts of Oak, while Osei Agyemang and Evans Quao are all nursing injuries.

The Local Black Stars broke camp today (Thursday), and Kotoko intend to write to the FA their decision to keep Amos Frimpong and Ahmed Adams from the international assignment.

Hello Ahmed Adams, you’re not a Nesta.

If there was any defender in the world who would choose to sit on the ball and cover up for himself, it was Alessandro Nesta.

He is widely considered to be one of the best centre backs of his time and also as one of the greatest defenders ever, he is best known for his artistic tackles, elegance on the ball, distribution, and tight marking of opponents.

Ahmed Adams, is getting swollen headed due to his consistency in the line up week in and out. He must desist from that attitude for the betterment of the team.

Michael Osei understudied Anthony Commey for a year at New Edubiase United, but he failed to learn from his boss. From the early minutes of the game, New Edubiase United’s intent in the game was understandable by even a layman in the game of football.

They receded possession and were more interested in preventing Kotoko from stringing, but Michael Osei kept on playing to their style instead of tweaking his.

New Edubiase United have started the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League (GPL), season poorly, and were involved in a relegation dogfight prior to their Match-Day Nine game against Asante Kotoko.

Their performance against a ‘so called’ rejuvenated Porcupine Warriors was at par with almost all the best performing sides this season and if they are consistent with that output, relegation will not sniff around them come the dying embers from the season.

Kotoko were nervous. 

The Kotoko players never looked like a team recovering from lack of confidence. Dauda Mohammed, notably,  was presented with some glorious chances to draw parity, but missed those opportunities.

Anthony Commey’s side displayed a well-composed game plan against a very nervous-looking Kotoko side and repelled all attacks by the Kumasi side.

Eric Donkor 7 Others Honoured By Kotoko Victory Circle Atasemanso Supporters Group

Asante Kotoko Victory Circle supporters (Atasemanso) have honoured eight members of the Kotoko playing body at a brief and colourful ceremony held at the earlier this week.

The Victory Circle, one of the many supporters group within the Kotoko fraternity is inaugurated recently though they have been in existenc for some time now.

As part of activitis to inaugrate the ‘Circle’ members of the group honoured some players and officials of the group an action that has been hailed by the players who were awarded.

Some of the players honoured include, goalkeeper Ofori Antwi, Ohene Brenya, captain Amos Frimpong, veteran Stephen Oduro, Eric Donkor, Ahmed Adams, Ahmed Toure and Obed Owusu.

Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has been voted Sports Personality of the Year at the 3rd edition of the Ghana Sports Fans Awards.

Udinese’s Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has also been voted Foreign Footballer of Year.

Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, Welbeck Abra Appiah, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Habiba Attah and Daniel McCauley -MacDan received awards for their exemplary works in the year 2015 while ex-Black Queens player and referee, Mercy Tagoe scooped the Unsung Heroine award.
