Ghana To Participate In The Table Tennis World Champions

The national table tennis team will participate in Table Tennis World Champions (TTWC) which will be held in Malaysia on Sunday,28 February 2016.

 

Team Ghana which consists of Felix Lartey, Derrick Abrefa, Emmanuel Commey, Joe Sam will be expected to depart from Ghana on Friday,26 February 2016.

 

The national team couldn’t qualify for the upcoming Olympics after have a disappointing campaign in African table tennis qualifiers in Sudan.

 

In an interview with sportscrusader.com  the current national champion Mr. Felix Lartey said “it is true we had a poor showing in the African qualifiers in Sudan, and we are very disappointed,but we looking forward to win some medals in the world champions for Ghana”.

 

The table tennis will be looking forward to redeem their respective careers in the upcoming champions if they all able to meet their travel requirement in order to be at the championships.

Ghana To Compete In Tennis Olympic Qualifiers

The national table tennis team of Ghana are hopeful of leaving the shores of Ghana on the 11^th February to participate in the African Olympic qualifiers and the Top 16 tournament that will take place on the 16-18 February in Khartoum Sudan.

 

 

 

The team which includes Felix Lartey, Derek Abrefi and Emmanuel Commey will be looking forward to make it to the Rio 2016 games after a long absence from the games at the Olympic level.

 

The table Tennis Team failed to make it to the London Olympics in 2012 because of various previous challenges that confronted the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) with regards to it operations.

 

Speaking to sportscrusader.com a member of the national team, Emmanuel Commey who is determined to make the shortlist for the Rio games said, “I know the task ahead is a very difficult one but I have one objective in life and that is to make it to the Olympic games at least for ones”.

The sport of table tennis during the early 2000 was a very popular sport in Ghana,with players playing across the globe. The downward surge of the sport from 2005-2009 brought a halt to the overall progress of the sports in the country.

 

 

Then came the now Preident Mr. Mawuko Afzanu who also doubles as Chief Executive officer of Stanbic Bank and his team who took office in 2014 and since then there has been vast improvement of the sport in the country. The resumption of the national league and other tournament has really helped with the growth of the sport.

 

 

 

In an interview with sportscrusader.com, the President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association(GTTA) Mr.Mawuko said, “the resurgence of the sport has basically got to do with how well I and my team have being able to mobilize funds for the sports which has enabled as execute the various planned strategies”.

 

 

He also added that,”the two national team players representing Ghana at the qualifier in Sudan includes the 2016 table tennis champion Felix Lartey and former champion Derek Abrefa who are sure bet to guarantee Ghana success at the tourney.

GOCs Role Is Misconstrued By Some Journalists - Rev. Quarcoo

The Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Olympics Committee (GOC), Rev. Richardmond Quarcoo  has admitted his institution is very worried about the attitude and negative reportage by some sports journalists in the country.

Rev. Quarcoo sounded worried about the duties of the Ministry of Youth and Sports being ‘assigned’ to the GOC by sports journalists, who should know better and report on who is responsible, when a challenge pops up but rather ‘pollute’ the mind of the public.

Speaking to sportscrusader.com on how some sports journalists have acted unprofessionally, he said,”First of all people don’t understand the role of the GOC, they think that when the name GOC is mentioned we are supposed to pay athletes.

“In fact there was an instance when an athlete travelled and his per diem wasn’t paid and people started criticising the GOC but that is not our job as some media people spread falsehood about our duties and responsibilities. ”

“Some sports journalist whether print or electronic deliberately misinform the public knowing very well the GOC does not handle allowances and ticket issues. These false news only increases and contributes to the ignorance among some individuals and organisations out there that the GOC is neglecting her duties.” He added.

The GOC is currently preparing towards Rio 2016 as the various disciplines participate in qualifying competitions.
