National Table Tennis Team Malaysia Trip Cancelled

The national table tennis team have cancelled their trip to the Table Tennis World Championship that was due in Malaysia on Sunday, 28 February 2016.

 

The cancellation of the trip was due to the incapacity of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA)  to fund the national team for the trip.

 

The President of GTTA, Mr Mawuko Afzanu told sportscrusader.com in an interview that “the association couldn’t raise an amount of 100,000 Ghana cedis to finance the trip to Malaysia ,therefore it necessitated the need for us to cancel the trip to Malaysia”.

 

The national team namely Felix Lartey, Derick Abrefa, Joe Sam and Emmanuel Commey were due to participate in the world championships which starts tomorrow 28,February 2016.

Mr.Afzanu also emphasized that such monies could be used to embark on various developmental project and event organization that could further grow the sports in Ghana.

Ghana To Compete In Tennis Olympic Qualifiers

The national table tennis team of Ghana are hopeful of leaving the shores of Ghana on the 11^th February to participate in the African Olympic qualifiers and the Top 16 tournament that will take place on the 16-18 February in Khartoum Sudan.

 

 

 

The team which includes Felix Lartey, Derek Abrefi and Emmanuel Commey will be looking forward to make it to the Rio 2016 games after a long absence from the games at the Olympic level.

 

The table Tennis Team failed to make it to the London Olympics in 2012 because of various previous challenges that confronted the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) with regards to it operations.

 

Speaking to sportscrusader.com a member of the national team, Emmanuel Commey who is determined to make the shortlist for the Rio games said, “I know the task ahead is a very difficult one but I have one objective in life and that is to make it to the Olympic games at least for ones”.
