Burkina Faso International Dies During A Football Match

34-year-old Burkina Faso defender Ben Idrissa Derme has died during a football match in France.

Former Burkina Faso international Ben Idrissa Derme died during a French Cup match for sixth-division outfit AJ Biguglia.

The defender suffered a heart attack in the second half in the third-round tie for his side.

Medical staff were unfortunately unable to revive him after rushing onto the pitch.

Derme was capped four times for his country and played for CA Bastia and Moldova’s Sheriff Tiraspol among other clubs.

Kerber Tops Karolina For U.S. Open Title

Entering the U.S. Open final on Saturday, Angelique Kerber had already wrested the No. 1 ranking in the world from Serena Williams.

Now the German needed to beat the woman who stunned Serena in the semifinals to capture her first U.S. Open crown.

It turned into quite the historic weekend for Kerber, who won her second Grand Slam title of 2016 by fending off No. 10 seed Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, under extremely hot and humid conditions in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Kerber, the No. 2 seed, won her WTA Tour-leading 54th match of 2016. She also picked up a winner’s check worth $3.5 million.

After Pliskova sailed a forehand wide on match point, Kerber fell to her back on the stadium court and then climbed into the stands to hug her coach, Torben Beltz. After returning to the court and sitting down, Kerber was reduced to tears of joy.

“It’s just amazing,” Kerber said in an on-court interview. “I won my second Grand Slam in one year, that’s the best year in my career.

 

The 28-year-old left-hander will officially become No. 1 in the world on Monday, the first German since Steffi Graf to accomplish that feat. Now she has two major titles to go with it. Kerber beat Serena to win the Australian Open in January and also reached the Wimbledon final, where she lost to Williams.

Viasat 1 Officially Launch English Premier League Live Telecast

Viasat 1 Ghana media organization has officially launched the live telecast of the 2016/2017 English Premier matches kick starts on Saturday, 13th, August 2016.

The live telecast is scheduled every Saturday at 14: 00 GMT with a recap and highlights of all the matches every Monday at 18 : 00 GMT.

 

In a speech delivered by their Chief Executive Officer,Mr Richmond Sey reiterated how committed there were into bringing live matches to majority of Ghanaians in the comfort of their homes with no subscriptions and bills.

Viasat 1 will debut their live telecast this weekend as Everton welcome Totteham Hotspur to the Goodison park on Saturday at 14 : 00 GMT.

Chelsea Join Race To Sign Moroccan Superstar

Chelsea have joined the race to sign Morocco attacking midfielder Sofiane Boufal, according to La Voix des Sports.

 

The 22-year-old player has been linked with a number of major European team after starring for French side Lille in the last couple of seasons and has even been compared to current Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard.

 

La Voix des Sports reports that the Blues have been in contact with Lille over a possible transfer, as have Spanish side Sevilla, who can offer Boufal Champions League football next season after winning the Europa League.

 

The player’s agent Yvan Le Mee was also in Barcelona last week for talks with the Catalan giants, but they will apparently not be looking to sign the player.

 

Boufal has also been strongly linked with Tottenham Hotspur, while Southampton made official enquiries at the end of last week.

 

The Saints may see the Moroccan as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Senegal attacker Sadio Mane.

Juventus Eyes Leicester Midfield Rock

Juventus will make a move for Leicester City star N’Golo Kante -if Paul Pogba leaves this summer.

Pogba is wanted by all of Europe’s top clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Juventus are keen to keep hold of their star midfielder but are aware that his departure could bank them around £100m.

And if the Italian champions do decide to let Pogba go, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, they will make a move for Kante.

The midfielder has been a revelation for Leicester this season after arriving last summer from Caen for just £5.6m.

The 25-year-old is now a target for Arsenal and Real Madrid, with his asking price a reported £30m.

Aguero Nets 100th Premier League goal

Sergio Aguero is the second quickest player to reach the landmark after former Blackburn and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer

 

He netted is 100 goal in the 14th minute against Newcastle at St James’ Park to take his tally for the season to 21 in the top flight.

Aguero’s header from an Aleksandr Kolarov free-kick rifled past Karl Darlow but replays showed the goal should’ve been disallowed for offside.

It has taken the Argentine just 147 matches to reach a century of goals.

Alan Shearer is the only player to have reached the landmark in less games, having achieved the feat in just 124 matches in the 1990s.

Thierry Henry is third in the list, having scored his first 100 Premier League goals in 160 games.

Barcelona midfield supremo Andres Iniesta has described the upcoming El -Clasico which is slated for this Saturday as not ideal as some players are not yet back from the international break.

In a press conference after Wednesday training session the midfielder told reporters that “of course [playing El Clásico after the international break] it’s not the ideal situation, it’s not the best to not be able to have players back until Thursday or Friday, but it’s a normal situation when there are international breaks”.

The 31  year old also emphasized that many times the Clasico has coincided with internationals.

” it’s not the best scene, but those who’ve been with their national teams have been competing, while those that have stayed here have been recovering. It is what it is, there’s nothing more to it,” – he added.

Barcelona are nine points clear off their rivals and a win on Saturday will cement their grasp on the La Liga tittle.
