Razak Abalorah has said his West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) side was determined to end their poor away run in this season’s Ghana Premier League (GPL) when they played Accra Hearts of Oak last Wednesday in Accra.

Prior to that encounter, the academy lads had lost all their three away games by a similar margin (0-1) to Berekum Chelsea, Aduana Stars and Dreams FC, and, the goalkeeper said they were determined to halt that run going into this game.

The Academy lads frustrated the Phobians to a 1-1 stalemate at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra to record their first away point of the season.

“We were determined not to lose this one,” he said after the game, adding that they will build on this performance in their subsequent away games.

“Our game plan worked for us as we did not them to settle into any rhythm that could make them trouble us on the day,” he added, insisting that they did everything possible to win but Hearts fought back to earn a draw.

WAFA opened the scoring in the first half through Charles Boateng before Cosmos Dauda leveled for the Phobians in the second as the spoils were shared.

They will next play Ebusua Dwarfs at Sogakope on Sunday before heading to Bechem to play Bechem United in their next GPL away game the week after.

Kotoko WIll Turn Around Poor League Start - Malik Jabir

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko player and coach, Malik Jabir has tipped his old side to turn around their poor start to the 2015/16 Ghana Premier league season.

Kotoko lie 11th on the league log after five matches having won just one, drawn two and lost two games and this has brought undue pressure to the playing body and technical team headed by coach David Duncan, as well as the management.

The Porcupine Warriors have another daunting task on Sunday when they come up against Aduana Stars away, a side they have never defeated at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park at Dormaa since they gained promotion to the top flight league some six years ago.

Bookmakers have tagged them favourites to record their third defeat of the season on Sunday against an Aduana Stars side that have been unbeaten in their last two league games.

But Coach Jabir who has seen league glory with Kotoko as a player and coach has admitted that the club has had a bad start to the season but will turn things around beginning with the away game to Aduana Stars.

He said, “the league is still young after five weeks but if Kotoko will pick themselves up now and through to the second round of the league after correcting the earlier wrongs, then Kotoko will be back in the title race”.

“I don’t think Kotoko is in a big mess now but there’s no need to press the panic button just yet but they should start with the Dormaa game and find some winning consistency,” he added.

Akuoko Predicts Fruitful Season For Aduana Stars Despite Poor Start

Aduana Stars defender Emmanuel Akuoko has predicted a very productive season for his side despite making a dreadful start to the campaign.

The experienced player called for patience from fans of the Dormaa based side as they look to build on their new found form.

Aduana Stars are unbeaten in their last two games, after losing their opening three games of the season and are confident of building on this.

The energetic defender envisaged a very close title run at the end of the season and remains optimistic that his side will come to the party at the appropriate time.

The former captain of the 2009/2010 league champions played down the gravity of their disastrous start and calling on fans to exercise patience as there is a long season ahead.

Aduana Stars parted ways with their then head coach Amadu Nuru after two successive defeats this season and have reappointed Romanian Cioba Aristica as head coach.

“Aduana Stars can still win the league at the end of the season; our target is still the league title and we will keep working on this,” Akuoko said.

“We have just played five matches and with 25 still to play, anything is still possible at the end of the campaign,” he exclusively told sportcrusader.com.

The stoutly built defender passed on a flurry of offers to switch camp to rival clubs in the last local transfer window, hoping to help the Brong Ahafo based side’s six year wait for another league trophy.

Aduana Stars invested heavily into the playing squad and were tipped by many to hijack the league but has so far recorded one win in five matches.

Hasaacas Trainer Blames Poor Weather Conditions For Heavy Defeat at Wa

Head coach of Sekondi Hasaacas Yussif Basigi has blamed the poor climatic conditions in northern Ghana for his side’s heavy defeat at the Wa Park, last Sunday in Match Day One of the Ghana Premier League.

The ace trainer acknowledged the improved performances from the home side, but factored in the harsh weather conditions at the Malik Jabir Stadium, as the main reason behind their poor performance in the season openers.

Wa All Stars mauled the lifeless “Do Boys” by three unanswered goals to usher in life under their new trainer, Enos Adepa Kwame in a stellar form.

The veteran trainer dubbed the climatic conditions in the region as ‘terrible’ and not friendly for football even for the home team.

“Just one factor which affected our performance and the results and that is the weather. The weather here is very terrible for football even though I am a northerner.

“I cannot personally bear this weather as it is very harsh. It played an integral part of the game and that is normal as they took advantage of it.

“They played though but the weather favoured them in the game. We will have to pick our first maximum points in the next game in the league”. Coach Basigi told sports crusader.
