Accra Hearts of Oak will host Sekondi Hasaacas at the Accra Sports Stadium in a Match-Day 12 action of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

Team News:

Samudeen Ibrahim, Musah Inusah, Thomas Abbey, Richard Yamoah, and Owusu Bempah have all returned to training with the first two very likely to be in contention against Hasaacas.

Musah Ibrahim and Sabahn Laryea have both returned from international duty with the local Black Stars and Eric Kumi is back to the team after family bereavement.

Soulama Abdoulaye is serving the final game of his suspension but Isaac Oduro remains sidelined.

Accra Hearts of Oak will seek to maintain their leadership of the GPL when they host Sekondi Hasaacas at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

The Phobians returned to the top of the table after beating Berekum Chelsea by a lone goal at the Berekum Golden City Park in their last encounter, a result that brought to an end Chelsea’s four years unbeaten home record.

Samuel Yeboah was back among the goals and his lone strike gained Hearts a first ever win at the home of Berekum Chelsea. It also helped the team to recover quickly from the painful defeat against Kotoko in their last home game.

Impressively, the win over Chelsea ensured that Hearts ascended to the top of the Premier League pile for the first time in five match-days.

Hearts have been boosted by the return to training of five hitherto injured players. Samudeen Ibrahim, Musah Inusah, Richard Yamoah, Thomas Abbey, and Owusu Bempah, and, some could be included in the squad for the game by Coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi.

Sekondi Hasaacas are yet to pick a point on the road in the 2016 GPL season. The Hasmal boys have lost in Wa (All Stars 3-0), Sogakope (WAFA 5-0), Kumasi (Kotoko 1-0), Dormaa (Aduana 4-0), and Dawu (Dreams 2-1). But they will be buoyed by their recent success against Hearts from the last four games where they have won 50% of the encounters.

Last season, Hasaacas shocked Hearts at the Accra Sports Stadium with a maiden win in the 21^st century at the home of the Phobians. They shot into a two-goal lead under the half-hour mark before Hearts woke up to get a consolation through Philip Boampong.

Hearts have not been able to match their impressive away form at home so far in the campaign. The Phobians have lost twice, drawn once, and won two times from five home games in the season so far.

But having moved back to the top of the table, the confidence level of the players will be high and they will fight to return to winning ways at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Okwawu United – Sekondi Hasaacas MTN FA Cup Game To Go Ahead

GN Bank Division One outfit, Okwawu United will hope to cause a minor upset when they host Sekondi Hasaacas of the Ghana Premiership in their round of 16 tie of the MTN FA Cup competition on Sunday.

The game will be played at the Nkawkaw Park, and, it is set to go ahead after earlier moves by the hosts to pull out of the competition.

At home, United will be favourites to win this one as they have been very strong at the Nkawkaw Park this season in the Division One League (DOL), winning all but one of their matches.

Hasaacas have been very poor travelers in the Ghanaian game for quite some time now, it will find it difficult to produce a result against the DOL high-flyers.

United are chancing a place in the top-flight league next season, and, will be high on confidence as they head into this battle.

Hasaacas have lost all their away games in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) this season, and, it will be interesting to see where they will draw inspiration from as they visit traditionally one of the most difficult venues in Ghana football.

GPL Update: Hasaacas Has Worse Defensive Record After Nine Games

Sekondi Hasaacas has the worse defensive record of all the 16 teams after nine games in the ongoing Ghana Premier League (GPL) even at this early stage.

The club has conceded 18 goals in their opening nine games of the season and the prospects of them adding to that tally in their next game, is high.

They visit the Dawu Park this weekend to take on the might of Dreams FC who have showed a very positive mood at home on their debut in the Ghanaian top-flight league.

Dreams FC have scored seven goals in the nine goals they have played so far, and, against such a porous defence, they will fancy their chances of adding to that tally.

Bechem United and Medeama SC have both conceded 13 goals, with the later having played a game less. They have an outstanding game with Inter Allies this afternoon (Wednesday) at home in Tarkwa.

The team with the best defensive record so far is Wa All Stars who have conceded four followed by WAFA who have let in five.Bechem United, New Edubiase United and Ebusua Dwarfs have each scored six goals from nine games indicating that they hold the record for the least returning rate in front of goal.

Of the nine games played, All Stars have won the most games, six, followed by Hearts of Oak, Liberty Professionals and Berekum Chelsea who have all won five games.

Bechem United, Ebusua Dwarfs, Medeama SC and Hasaacas have all lost five games with Hearts of Oak remaining the only club yet to lose an away game this season.

GPL Match-Day Eight Preview: Aduana Stars – Sekondi Hasaacas

Aduana Stars will look to record their third home win of the season when they welcome Sekondi Hasaacas to the Nana Agyemang Badu II Park, Dormaa tomorrow.

They started the season on a very poor note, losing their opening three games, but, a change in technical direction has seen them gain some momentum as they have claimed up the ladder and sit in 12^th position with seven points.

Also, they are one of the most formidable sides at home, and, with Hasaacas being one of the poor travelers, the home side will feel confident of collecting maximum points.

Coach Aristica Coiaba and his charges will look to register their third home win of the season and boost their scoring record against a side that has let in nine goals in just three away games.

Hasaacas have lost all their three away games and the prospects of them ending that run does not look good as they have also failed to score in any of those matches.

It will therefore be a huge surprise if they return back to Sekondi with anything out of this game despite them winning their last two league games.

Queens In Great Comeback

Ghana’s Black Queens came from a goal down to beat Tunisia 2-1 in their African Women’s Championships final round qualifier in Tunis today.

The Tunisians took the lead from a controversial penalty on the 33rd minute after Senegalese referee Fatou Thione misjudged Janet egyir to have fouled a Tunisian striker in the box, punishing egyir with a yellow card & rewarding the Tunisians with a spotkick converted by Ella Kabaachi.

Queens equalised almost immediately on resumption of the 2nd half with Samira Suleman finishing a brilliant free kick and Princella Adubea who plays for Techiman-based Ampem Darkoa scored the winner with about six minutes to go.

The Queens almost suffered from the referee’s controversial decisions as she again misjudged goalkeeper Patricia Mantey to have pulled down a Tunisian player in the box.

This time, her punishment was harsher, sending Mantey off & again awarding a penalty. Goalkeeper Nana Ama Asantewaa showed her bravery as she parried the shot off to deny the Tunisians a second goal.

Queens played a greater part of the game with 10 men, enduring harassment & rough play but still managed to win.

MTN FA Cup: We Are Ready For Any Opposition – Hasaacas

Coach Yusif Basigi says Sekondi Hasaacas is ready for any opposition after seeing his side through to the next stage of the MTN FA Cup competition.

The Premiership outfit beat third tier side Holy Stars 2-0 at Anyinase on Saturday to advance to the Round of 32 of this year’s competition.

And Coach Basigi said after the game that his side is ready for any opponent in the next round, insisting that they are very much capable of winning it.

“This is a knock out competition and you should be ready to face any opponent as you don’t know what the draw will look like in the next round,” he said.

Goals in either half by Amos Kuranchi and Eric Bekoe secured victory for the Ghana Premier League side over their lower tier opponents.

Coach Basigi said, they await the draw for the next round of the competition with keen interest and will go all out to make the most of any opportunity that would be presented them.

He will hope to guide the Sekondi-based club to a first silverware in the competition for the first time since 1985 when they defeated Asante Kotoko 2-0 in Accra for their only triumph so far.

Bekoe Scores As Hasaacas Progress In MTN FA Cup

Former Ghana goal king Eric Bekoe was on target for Sekondi Hasaacas as they progressed to the Round of 32 in the MTN FA Cup competition on Saturday.

Bekoe scored in the second half to add to a first half effort by Amos Kuranchi as the Ghana Premier League side beat Holy Stars of the second division 2-0 at Anyinase.

The win sees Hasaacas qualify to the next stage of the competition as they seek to win this trophy for the first time since 1985.

In other Round of 64 games played on Saturday, Okyeman Planners of the First Division, beat third tier side Red Lions of Akatsi 4-1 on penalties after their encounter ended 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Premier League side Inter Allies beat Krystal Palace 1-0 at Akosombo to advance to the next stage of the competition. Ishmael Ntifuni scored the lone goal for the Tema-based club.

Wa Rockets beat Real Bawku United 1-0 at the Wa Stadium and will be in the pool for the Round of 32 draw later.

Asokwa Deportivo beat STK Stars 2-1 away at Swala; Dunkwa United recorded a 2-0 home victory over Heart of Lions; Rainbow FC of Kumasi beat Real Tamale United 3-1 on penalties after their game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes at the Kumasi Anglican Secondary School Park.

In an all First Division affair, Pure Joy FC beat Danbort FC 2-0 at Prampram; Unicon FC lost 0-1 at the Sekondi Stadium at Essipong to True Democracy.

Sekondi Hasaacas center forward, Eric Bekoe has rendered an unqualified apology to the fans of Kumasi Asante Kotoko for the comments he made after his sides defeat in their recent league game in Kumasi.

The former Petrojet frontman, had an altercation with Kotoko head coach, David Duncan during their 1-0 loss at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last Sunday, and it is believed fans who witnessed what transpired are unhappy with their former player’s actions.

Eric Bekoe described Kotoko fans as lovely and he wouldn’t do anything to hurt them. He believes he reacted rudely before them because he could not control his emotions.

“This is football and you can’t stay in one club forever,” Bekoe said.

“If I did anything to hurt the fans, I am deeply sorry. But they all saw what happened before I reacted. It wasn’t my intention to react angrily before my lovely fans but it was due to what the coach did,” he added.

He has also apologized to David Duncan, saying “it was a misunderstanding from either me or him. These things are part of football, but he is matured, older than me and I have to accord him that respect”.

Hearts Could Destroy Kotoko on May 1- Bekoe

Sekondi Hasaacas forward, Eric Kwabena Bekoe believes that League leaders Hearts of Oak could destroy his former club, Asante Kotoko when the two most prominent teams in the country meet on Week 10 of the Ghana premier league.

The 29-year old goal poacher who saw his Hasaacas side lose to Asante Kotoko on Friday night thinks his former club are not any better side capable of offering a meaningless competition against Kenichi Yatsuhashi’s Hearts of Oak who have glittered in the opening few weeks of the new season.

Speaking to Kumasi based Metro FM, the former Ghana Premier League top scorer says there is still lots of work to be done to bring the Porcupine Warriors back to their glory days.

“Our team [Kotoko] is not done yet.There are lot to be done. This was not even a match Kotoko should win and celebrate and this is the first time I’ve seen Kotoko fans refuse to jubilate despite winning. You could see there is more to be done. I am a die-hard fan of Kotoko and we must tell the truth – the current Kotoko players should up their game.” Eric Bekoe said.

“Kotoko really need to wake up. This is not the Kotoko I know. For the players to be feigning injuries trying to delay time.

“it’s regrettable and if this is the team Kotoko is going to use against Hearts of Oak, then they should sleep . I’m saying this for sure.

“I watched Hearts of Oak against Medeama myself and I can tell you the finishing of Hearts of Oak is a fearful one this season. Any club playing against Hearts of Oak really need to be strong. They have a very sharp attack. ” Bekoe added.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Hearts of Oak will host Asante Kotoko on match day 10 of the Ghana premier League slated for May 1.

Amos Frimpong Fires Back At Bekoe

Kumasi Asante Kotoko captain, Amos Frimpong has had a pop at former striker, Eric Bekoe for meddling in the club’s business than concentrating on his current club.

Bekoe has been loud and vocal at his ex-employers poor start to the league season and prior to Hasaacas 1-0 defeat away to Kotoko, the forward said he was ready to add to the woes of his old side.

 

Frimpong has taken to social media to hit back at Bekoe to be focused on helping his side find their feet in the 2015/16 Ghana premier league season than worrying about his former side.

The last line in his message written in the Ghanaian language, Twi, reads, ‘Ya br3 wo’ and translates as ‘we’ve had enough of you and that was to suggest to Bekoe enough is enough.

 

He wrote, “what has your team done. Keep quiet. Concentrate on your game and leave us alone. You talk too much masa. Your time, your time, what did you do. Huh. Always throwing dust in to people’s eyes. Ya br3 wo.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko captain, Amos Frimpong has hailed the support received from their fans as they posted their first win of the season over Sekondi Hasaacas yesterday, Friday.

The Porcupines secured a hard-fought 1-0 win at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi to ease some of the pressure on the team after failing to win in their opening four games of the season.

And Captain Frimpong has hailed the role fans at the stadium played in securing the win, describing it as one of the best he has ever seen.

He took to social media to thank the fans for been there with them even when the going was tough on the soggy Baba Yara Stadium pitch as it rained throughout the game.

“What a support we had today, even when it was raining. We are really grateful for your massive support, let’s all be patient and I believe strongly, things will change,” he wrote on his facebook wall.

It took a second half goal from striker Kwame Boateng to secure the win for the record Ghana champions who now have five points from five games.

They will hope to build on this to ease the pressure further as asserted by Frimpong who enjoyed the full throttle at the back as they held on for the win.

Kotoko’s next league fixture will be an away encounter against Aduana Stars at Dormaa, a venue they have never taken three points against the home side.

Hasaacas Deny Assault On SuperSports Cameraman

The management of Ghana Premier League Side, Sekondi Hasaacas  has denied media reports that a Supersport TV cameraman was manhandled and had his equipment destroyed by a ‘machoman’ hired by club officials during their league match against Ashantigold at the Sekondi Stadium last Sunday.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of Hasaacas, Benjamin Quansah, The Sekondi based club described the allegations as contemptuous, unprofessional and totally false; and something meant to bring the name of a media-friendly club like Sekondi Hasaacas F/C into disrepute.

“The media has been very supportive in the coverage and promotion of our games and we would not adopt any antagonistic tactics to stifle the work of our great partners. As a law-abiding club, we complied with a GFA/PLB directive and allowed Supersport to cover our league game against Techiman City FC about a fortnight ago at the Sekondi Sports stadium,” it stated.

“Indeed, the Ashgold TV team told our Deputy Chief Executive, Mr Ofori Acquah, when they arrived at the stadium, that they were there to cover the game and use the excerpts for Ashgold TV on DSTV but he did not accede to their request. They violated the rules and sought permission from the match commissioner, Mr Arthur Dadzie, but he and other stakeholders agreed that Ashgold TV could not cover the match since they did not make that request at the prematch meeting.

“This was communicated to them and they returned with a GoTV camera to cover the game in defiance of the rejection of their earlier request for the coverage of the game,” it explained.

The statement pointed out that the norm is that any club that wishes to cover a match will first have to apply to the GFA for permission and, when granted, a fee is paid and the receipt is then shown at a pre-match technical meeting for all stakeholders to be aware of it before a coverage is sanctioned.

GPL Preview: Sekondi Hasaacas – AshantiGold SC

Defending Ghana Premier League (GPL) champions, AshantiGold SC will trek to the Sekondi Stadium at Essipong to confront the might of Hasaacas in a Match-Day Four fixture on Sunday.

The Miners are unbeaten in their opening three games of the season as they look to defend the title they won last the end of the last campaign.

They defended very well in holding Asante Kotoko to a goalless draw in their outstanding game in midweek and will need to defend even better as they visit the twin-city of Sekondi-Takoradi.

Coach Bashir Hayford’s side seems to have put the disappointment of going out of the CAF Champions League behind them, and, have started picking up the pieces.

Hasaacas as has been their tradition, win most of their points at home, and will look to keep that norm going with victory in this game.

The home side suffered an embarrassing 0-5 defeat to WAFA in their last game, and, will seek to make amends on Sunday with a win to add to their Match-Day Two success over debutants Techiman City.

They have on paper one of the most fearsome attack in the Ghanaian game at the moment in Eric Bekoe, Ernest Papa Arko and Samuel Afful who all contributed in their 4-2 win over Techiman City in their last home game.

Bekoe Describes Hasaacas Loss As "Shameful"

Sekondi Hasaacas forward, Eric Bekoe has described his side’s annihilation at the hands of West Africa Football Academy as ‘shameful and disappointing.’

Hasaacas were whipped 5-0 by WAFA at the Sogakope Stadium on Match Week Three of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

And the former Kumasi Asante Kotoko striker has taken to social media platform, Facebook to apologize for mauling and promised fans of the club a spirited fight back.

“On behalf of the entire HASAACAS team, we are appealing to all our fans that we are very sorry for the shameful defeat at WAFA,” the ex-premier league goal king wrote on his official page.

“… this is outside last loose (defeat) of the season. We are going to bounce back in a grand style and put a smile on the faces of our gracious loving fans.

“Thanx (thanks) for the support in Sogakope n (and) sorry for the disappointment. We love you all!” He stated.

Hasaacas will host Ashanti Gold on Match Week Four of the GPL at the Essipong sports stadium.

West African Football Academy (WAFA) thumbed Sekondi Hasaacas by 5-goals to nil in their match week 3 fixture of the Ghana premier league played at the Sogakope Park.

 

WAFA after losing their second game away to Berekum Chelsea came into this one with hot blood poised to make amends especially after beating Asante Kotoko 2-0 in match week 1 at their favourite Sogakope Park.

Sekondi Hasaacas boosted with the beating of Techiman City 4-2 in match week 2 were also looking to build upon that result, but the WAFA lads wanted the game a bit more.

 

 

After a cagey opening minutes the dust finally settled and all looked positive for WAFA as Charles Boateng scored the first goal in the 44th minute.

 

Back from break, the goals from the home team started raining. Midfielder Gideon Waja scored the second goal.

Black Stars players Samuel Tetteh then took up the demolition mantle as he eventually it three more goals past goalkeeper Kotei in post for Hasaacas.

Tetteh eventually won the man of the match, his second of the three-week-old 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.

 

WAFA will next travel to Dormaa to play as guests to Aduana Stars in match week 4.

Hasaacas on the other hand, will be at home to defending league champions Ashantigold.

WAFA Is Beatable - Coach Bassigi

Coach Yusif Bassigi of Sekondi Hasaacas is targeting a win over WAFA in their Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day three encounter on Sunday, insisting that the academy boys are very much beatable.

Hasaacas go into this game at Sogakope on the back of a resounding 4-2 success chalked over debutants Techiman City at Sekondi last Sunday, and, “will be approaching the WAFA game with no fears”, according to Coach Basigi.

He added: “Every club in the GPL is beatable, and, we will go there hoping to collect the three points and add to the three we already have”.

The Sekondi based club lost their opening day fixture 0-3 to All Stars at Wa, but Coach Basigi’s side bounced back with that impressive home win over City and hope to build on this.

Former GPL top-scorer, Eric Bekoe scored a brace in that game, and, Coach Basigi is counting on the former Asante Kotoko marksman to play a pivotal role in their campaign this season.

“We made a few additions to our squad before the start of this campaign, and, they are beginning to make their presence felt on the field of play as you saw in the game with Techiman City, and, hopefully, their experience and character will guide us to a respectable position at the end of the competition.” Coach Basigi stressed.

Women"s League To Commence On March 19

The Ghana Football Association has announced that the 2015/2016 National Women’s League will commence on March 19.

The National Women’s ended on December 28, last year with Hasaacas Ladies winning for a historic third time after beating Ampem Darkoa Ladies by a lone goal in the Championship play-off in December.

And the new season will commence on March 19 at all zones  across the country.

The new season will be launched at the Ghana Football Association secretariat on Wednesday March 16.

Three teams from the Northern Zone (Chiewia Ladies, Northern Ladies FC, Subayo Ladies) and three from the Southern Zone (Halifax Ladies,Samaria Ladies,Bafana Ladies) qualified to join the National Women’s League this season after participating in the 2016 Zonal Women’s Championship.

Chiewia Ladies in particular, who will play the league as Real Upper Ladies, made history by becoming the first club from the Upper West Region to qualify for the National Women’s League.

Real Upper Ladies are based in Tumu.

The national women’s league is divided into two zones: Northern Zone and Southern Zone with each zone made of six teams who play a league format.

At the end of the season, the top teams from each zone will then play a one-off championship final to select the league champion.

Sekondi Hasaacas Must Improve on Away Form to Survive League

Ghana Premier League (GPL) outfit, Sekondi Hasaacas could face an uphill task to survive this season’s championship if they do not improve on their away performance.

The Westerners were beaten comprehensively by All Stars at Wa in their opening day fixture of the 2015/16 season and even at this early stage of the competition, they are being classified as candidates for relegation.

Last season, they struggled in most of their away games and only survived the season thanks to their home record which eventually ensured that they finished in mid table.

This season could turn up to be a different preposition all together especially so as they had a very low pre-season preparation and at a point, players went on strike for not being paid for over six months.

Hasaacas’ next game is at home to new entrants Techiman City on Saturday at the Essipong Stadium and, this is a must win game for them as they have some tough battles coming up against fierce opposition.

After the Techiman City game, they will visit Sogakope to taste the wrath of inform WAFA with further away games in this first round to come against Asante Kotoko, Aduana Stars, Dreams FC, Hearts of Oak and Bechem United.

On paper, these are tough duels to negotiate for the Sekondi based club, and they will have a lot on their hands in trying to maximize enough points from these games.

Most of their points this season will no doubt be won at home and, they will like to set that off with a win over Techiman City before they encounter further tests against AshantiGold, Berekum Chelsea, Medeama SC, Liberty Professionals, New Edubiase United, Ebusua Dwarfs and Inter Allies.

This is surely a tough call for Hasaacas and we wait to see how they confront these games before we head into the crucial second round to determine whether they will survive the league or not.

The task is on Coach Basigi and the rest of his technical team to prove that they will be up to the task of keeping Hasaacas in the league.

GPL ROUND UP: Debut Delight For Techiman City; Northern Scare For Hasaacas

The opening round of matches in the 2016 GPL produced contrasting results across the eight match venues used in the country.

Premier League newbies Techiman City FC capped their debut match in the top flight league with a well deserved 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea at the Nana Park on Sunday.

The Brong Ahafo based side held off their nerves to pose a nervy slim win in the regional derby to send Techiman into a state of ecstacy at the end of a legal tussle.

Issaka Ibrahim got the only goal of the match deep into the second department to earn Micky Charle’s youthful looking side the maximum points at stake. It was the first ever top flight match in Techiman since 1986 when Holy Stars last played in the top flight.

Wa All Stars began life under Enos Adepa Kwame with a scary 3-0 mauling of Sekondi Hasaacas to confirm their preseason form in the league itself.

A brace from Maxwell Baako added to Richard Arthur’s instinctive strike to keep the points at home as the Wa based side registered their 69th home win in 121 matches.

A goal each from Francis Afriyie and Yaw Andoh powered Bechem United past Liberty Professionals to set up the Brong Ahafo based side on the right pedestal.

Former Ghana international extended the dreams of Dreams FC as he masterminded a record first ever win for his side in the top flight away to Ebusua Dwarfs. The Kweiman based side posted a 0-1 win in cape Coast to hand JE Sarpong and his unlucky side a home reverse on their return to the league.

Hearts of Oak feasted on the Japanese solidarity to pocket the three points at home to New Edubiase thanks to their new arrival Samudeen Ibrahim. The Phobian had no options but to pay back their Japanese fans who thronged in numbers to support their compatriot at the helm of affairs for the 20 times Ghanaian champions.

Bashiru Hayford did not have to dig very deep for his salary in the opening matches of the season thanks to his twin attackers who exchanged strikes in a 2-1 win over Medeama SC. Bernard Ofori’s strike for the Mauves played no key role in the match as Fuseini and Alhassan Nuhu kept the points at home in a 2-1 win.

Elsewhere across the country, John Killa killed off any dream of Kumasi Asante Kotoko winning its opening match for the first time sine April 2003 as WAFA SC posted a 2-0 spanking over the reds. Charles Boateng and Samuel Tetteh proved crucial with composed strikes at Sogakope on Saturday.

Finally, Inter Allies defied their ‘poor’ preseason form with a well deserved 2-0 triumph over title favourites Aduana Stars at the Tema Park.

Goals from slippery forward Ropapa Mensah and Isaac Twum deflated the egos of the 2009/10 champions in the opening matches of the season.
