Head coach of newly promoted Ghana premier league side, Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs, J.E. Sarpong has admitted the fear of the commencement of the 2015/16 Ghana premier league delayed due to the Ethics committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The former Liberty Professionals and Aduana Stars coach has expressed worry at the manner in which Ghana football is being run and the negative effect this frequent legal battles that keeps the development of the football at bay in this country.
The start to the 2015/16 Ghana premier league has delayed due to a bribery allegation case involving Techiman City and Wa Africa United. The alleged bribery was to influence the game between the two sides in match week 22 of the 2014/15 GN Bank division one league season.
On Wednesday after a long delay the Ethics committee of the GFA finally ruled on the case and the verdict which read Techiman City and Wa Africa United get demoted immediately to the second tier division of Ghana football has suggested among the football loving fans the likelihood the league might delay and president of Techiman City, Charles Kwadwo Kumi alias Micky Charles’ rejection of the ruling adds up to the fear (suggestion).
In an interview with Kumasi based, Boss fm 93.7, coach Sarpong said, “the news of Techiman City and Wa Africa United demotion to division 2 by the Ethics committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has cast more doubt on the start of the league and now teams will have to break camp and it’s affecting clubs preparations to the new season.”
“Everything is messed up in relation to Ghana football and as you now it is difficult to keep a secret in Ghana and from my little observation Techiman City will fight the committee’s ruling which thence mean the league won’t commence as scheduled – February 20, 2016,” he added.
The GFA in a press statement has allayed the fears of clubs, supporters and sponsors stating, “following the decision of the Ethics Committee to demote Techiman City FC and Wa African United, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to assure all stakeholders that the programme for the 2015/16 season remains unchanged.
