Outspoken football administrator and former Chairman of Kumasi based Cornerstone Football Club, Nana Fitz has ranked the late Ohene Djan as the best ever Ghana Football Association president ever.
Ohene Djan (1924 – March 26, 1987) was the First Director of the Ghana Football Association. Under his administration as the head of Ghana sports, the nation chalked most of her outstanding successes at the international level in football, athletics and boxing.
Nana Fitz, a football administrator witnessed both the administration and the playing days of the late former Black stars player in the early 60s and believes even though Ghana could not qualify to a world cup final during his administration what he did to make the sports – football especially develop was enough to stay atop the football presidency ranking.
In an interview with sportscrusader.com, the former cornerstone FC chief said, “There is no doubt Ohene Djan is the best and will forever remain the best ever president of the Ghana Football Association – no one will disagree. Stadiums opened early as the fans knew what they were going to watch and the entertainment assured them from the footballers and administrators as a whole but now all they care about is money and nothing else.”
“During his tenure he placed Ghana on the world football map and even though there were challenges it did not affect the league and administrative dealings as is the case today. Football fans who could not visit league centres will wait for results from those who attended as there were only radios around,” he added.
The Ghana premier league now can barely attract thousand of supporters to the league venues and this has been attributed to many reasons.
