Berekum Chelsea striker, Sadick Adams has stated that the risk of attracting an infection was secondary on his mind when he intervened to save the life of his colleague, Asiwome Fumador at the Nana Ameyaw Park last sunday.
The former Black Starlets attacker rushed to revive Fumador, who was coughing out blood after collapsing following an aerial challenge with a Techiman City FC player.
“After I opened his mouth, he was coughing blood and none of the Red Cross men were around, so I wanted to do the mouth-to mouth breathing because of the risk of getting an infection,” Sadick Adams said in an interview, adding that, “I didn’t care about the risk of getting an infection because I was determined to revive my colleague”.
Sadick however expressed shock at the sheer naivety and apparent lack of knowledge by the Red Cross personnel who only wanted to move the unconscious Fumador quickly to the hospital without first of all performing a CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
“The Red Cross personnel wanted to move him to the hospital without first trying to revive him but I said no,” he said. “He would have been dead by the time we reached the hospital had he not been revived,” he added. “I am surprised the Red Cross personnel didn’t know he had to be revived first,” he continued.
Sadick also revealed that he had been taught how to revive a collapsed colleague by his former employers, Atletico Madrid when he was signed back in 2008 by the Spanish giants. This incident has called to question the competence of Red Cross personnel who are engaged to protect the lives of the footballers in the country.
This is the second time the striker has had to save life on the pitch, with the first incident happening at the training grounds of BA United.
