Ghana premier league side West Africa Football Academy sent the Sparrow Hawks of Togo into the bushes of Lome’ on Tuesday afternoon.
As part of their preparations for the upcoming Ghana Premier league season, the Sogakope-based club travelled to Togo and defeated the ‘baby brother’ of the Togolese national team by a lone goal.
Martin Antwi catapulted the Sparrow Hawks and they flew into the bushes and failed to return as the only goal of the game won the day for John Kila’s side.
The win will serve as a morale booster for the team as they prepare to host premier title hopefuls Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Sogakope Park on February 21 on Match Week One of the new season.
WAFA have been very impressive in their pre-season preparations after they recorded an emphatic 4-1 win over Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak in December last year.
They started last season poorly — going three games without a win, but recovered in the course of league to finish 7th, beating relegation by a whisker as their faith was decided on the final day of the season.
The team lost key members of their squad last season and would like to start better than they did last season to avoid a calamitous finish.
